Introduction The MSN Group Mechanized Tau Tactica was originally formed by kai'lore in 2002 as a splinter off the MSN Group Total Tau. The group began during 3rd edition before many of the rule changes emerged that brought Mechanized Tau into the spotlight. The founding members were mostly fluff enthusiasts who saw Mech Tau more as a fun way to play the army rather than anything overly powerful, but they dedicated themselves to pioneering creative ways to make their themed army work on the tabletop. A community atmosphere and mature, inpired discussion attracted many like-minded individuals to the Mech Tau banner. In July of 2004, the MTT members decided that their ideas about how best to build and run a sucessful Mechanized Tau army had developed to the point where an online reference resource was necessary. The MSN format lacked a search feature and the steadily increasing flow of new members continued to ask the same sorts of questions. Although the MTT crew prided themselves on being a patient and helpful bunch, the time and effort required to continually answer the same questions can grow wearisome and in fact began to draw resources from the advancement of new ideas. A call for articles was put out and the effort to organize The Guide to Mech Tau began. Over the next 5-6 months the document grew in scope until it eventually emerged in the form it held for the next 2 years. The release of The Guide to Mech Tau closely coincided with the release of the 4th edition rulebook which brought many minor changes that made a Mechanized Tau army much more appealing to a much greater number of players. These rule changes combined with the ease of use and comprehensiveness of the new online resource contributed to its significant popularity. In January of 2006, the management of MTT decided to begin the move to a PHPBB format. The popularity of MTT and Mech Tau had grown to the point where the MSN format no longer accomodated the site's growing needs. The lack of a search feature, edit button and moderator tools were the primary motivating factors. In preparation for the release of the new Codex: Tau Empire, the management decided to expand the scope of the site and adopted the name Advanced Tau Tactica. The new site went live in February. This document is the result of a rewriting and revamping of the original Guide to Mech Tau. Old articles have been edited to reflect the accomodation of other playstyles, and new articles have been written to discuss the new units introduced in Codex: Tau Empire. Individual articles represent the combined ideas of the ATT community, each written and edited by different members into a chohesive and easy to follow format intended as a resource for both new and veteran players alike. We sincerily hope that the effort put into this document helps you learn to play some facet of your army better. Thanks for reading! |
