Re: EWO on a Stormsurge an absolute MUST!

I'm another one in the camp that the EWO is too situational. My main concern is that the EWO only has a range of 12" from the Stormsurge, and the Stormsurge should not be on the front of your lines, and should have some bubble wrap to prevent charges. And I say that using the shorter ranged Bla...

Re: I'm replacing all my strike teams with breachers... on foot!

Unfortunately I'm another one in the no camp on breachers without a devilfish. A sensible opponent, will ignore them to start with and only fire on them as they approach their optimum range. How often do the breachers fire at 5" range ? I favour Strike teams with an Cadre Fireblade who have an ...

Re: Fire warriors vs guardsmen are they too cheap?

Guard have one of (if not the) best cheap infantry troops. Crunching some numbers the stats seem even worse to me (and that's just looking at infantry squads with no weapon upgrades let a lone conscripts). Firepower output against various targets was in the guardsmen favour in all situations apart f...

Re: Arka0415's 8th Edition Amy List

Very nice list, just a few small points to consider. I have always loved the concept of rail rifles, and was ecstatic to see them get such a strong profile in 8th. However they are very expensive, and once an opponent is on the receiving end of a volley (particularly if you get any extra mortal woun...

Re: Ions and Re-Roll 1's

One exception from Ion weapons overcharging having less shots is the Ion Rifle on the Pathfinder. Its a very cheap option as well (a Pathfinder with an Ion Rifle being the cost of 1.5 fire warriors). Being only Damage 1 its only good for plinking a few wounds off vehicles, but it a nice addition to ...

Re: Dark Hopes 8th edition guide to competitive battle strategy

A very good start, but I want echo the comments against some of the sweeping statements against some units, and I think some counter arguments/viewpoints with reasonings for both views could round out the guide. For example I personally take issue with the sweeping dismissal of Strike teams which I ...

Re: XV9 Hazard Support Team - 8th ed. discussion

Another benefit of the XV9 is that they can take 4 drones each. Unfortunately its 4 drones per unit, but you can have units of 1 and then place 2 near each other so they can both benefit from each others drones. I was thinking of 2 XV9s with Fusion Cascades, both monats, with 8 drones between them. ...

Re: Competitive Tau: The 3-1-1 Riptide Wing vs. Double Surge

GuidingOlive: Your question is a huge one, that anyone could write dozens and dozens of pages on. If there was a an optimal build for Tau everyone would be using it. Its better to focus on having a strong build and then learning to use it well and tweak it to your style of play. A strong build would...

Re: Red Knives Cadre: Help Me Win With What I Got!

Hi, NoobPwner84's list is an excellent start, however I just wanted to add two points. NoobPwner84's list is not taking advantage of that fact that hammerheads can come in units of 3 and when they do they get +1 BS once all three are alive. Plus being a unit it means that Long Strike's Tank Hunter b...

Re: Markerlights and the Stormsurge

Hi, Also the draft FAQ, although talking about Split Fire clearly shows the intention that only shooting at the unit that had markerlights on it gets the bonus, and in your situation the marines would not be affected. Q. Markerlights in Codex: Tau Empire - it seems to be the case that you can only f...

Re: [Challenge 2016] Research and Development

Deadline approaching fast - anyone getting nervous like me ? Even cutting my painting short to meet the deadline, I've still got to finish the white on three models, and then flock, static grass and base edge on all 6 models. Once done photography is required for 2 pictures for the unit entry. Busy...

Re: 1750 Hunter Contingent - "Half competitive list"?

Unless its a very fluffy game I'd demote the Coldstar to a regular Commander. In my army to fit in Tetras I run a small CAD; Ethereal, 2x10 Kroot and 2-3 tetras. You could get the Tetras cheaper if you picked a Farsight Allies detachment; Cadre Fireblade, 1x Crisis Suit and then a squadron of Tetras...

Re: Winning Without the Riptide Wing

No offense taken, discussion of different viewpoints is what makes this such a great forum. The reason I picked on the troops is because in your summary of your list you said "it's a ton of firepower", which for me seemed off with so many points invested in the troop choices. However I agr...

Re: Winning Without the Riptide Wing

I'm just doubtful that the mechanised troops bring enough firepower for their cost. They're great for capturing objectives, but pure firepower is not their thing, also although breachers would be good against the stormsurge (if they can get to it) they are not good at all against the riptide's 2+ sa...

Re: New Tau Player 1250 List Build

Firstly, that's a very well laid out post, which makes it easy to give you good feedback. The Tau have lots of great equipment, but a lot of them are situational and they points can easily add up. Going through your list I see lots of wargear and equipment that could be lost. So following the previo...

Re: OSC/Riptide List. 1650 Competitive Tourney.

Another weakness of the pathfinders is that they are the majority of your markerlights all in the same place, and even with a 4+ shield save will be priority no.1 for the opponent (small pathfinders units are more likely to escape attention). I find it best to have multiple sources of markerlights, ...

Re: Winning Without the Riptide Wing

Playing against the Riptide Wing without your own Riptide Wing - interesting !! I would say use things in your list and playstyles that you'd use against dual wraithknight (just don't use ap3 stuff like breachers), so I would use the Firebase Support Cadre for Monster Hunter to bury the Riptides in ...
