Re: [Results] Challenge 2016: Research and Development

Firstly, congratulations to the victors! And once again, thank you to the organisers. It's a real testament to ATT's greatness that we can have a well set-up event like this. Re: Storm of Damocles: by Justin D Hill

So they are "black"!? I'm pretty sure that there's been a previous mention in fluff of Tau actually having incredibly varied skin tones, more so than humans. Take it with a pinch of salt since I have no idea where I read it, but personally, I'm more surprised of an entire Sept having the ...

Re: [Voting] Challenge 2016: Research and Development

Welp, finished my rather extended write up of my opinions of all the entries. Thanks for taking the time to review all the entries. I'd love to have a more in-depth discussion about each one (best to do it after the voting closes). In particular, I was a bit pleasantly surprised by your review abou...

Re: [Voting] Challenge 2016: Research and Development

It was a tough call. In the end I had to do a scoresheet for modelling, painting, rules and fluff (double points for modelling) but it was still very close. Good luck to everyone involved and thanks to the organisers for setting this all up! It's things like this that really bring the community toge...

Welcome Mirth! I have to admit, I was eyeballing GW's LotR before I decided to pick up Tau instead (maybe one day I'll make that army of Sauron). Also, glad to see another SWToR veteran. Ex-Imperial Agent reporting in here! Shame that Eternal Crusade didn't turn out like an MMO, but it still shows p...

Re: Genestealer cults might be a problem.

So Web weapons were featured on BoLS. Those will bypass the armour of everything short of Crisis Suits, Broadsides and Monstrous Creatures. I wouldn't worry about them. Firewarriors and drones die anyway whilst XV25s should be in cover. Webbers seem to be more deadly to Craftworld Eldar and Sisters...

Re: [Challenge 2016] Research and Development

Man I'm running so far behind. I've got about a weeks worth of stuff to do in just a few days... I'll get my project finished and painted but getting photo's and sorting out the formatting for entry I might be cutting things a little fine! You must finish, Shas'la! It's for the Greater Good! Re: Stealth Suit Unit loadout

Anyway, long story short, stealth teams doesn't need any upgrades. It would be a waste of points as they are already very expensive for what you get. Pretty much this for me. They're too weak and don't have enough weapons to justify individual upgrades like XV8s or Riptides do. I've heard some good...

Re: Tau Pathfinders - Rail vs. Ion Rifles

True, but we aren't discussing whether or not Pathfinders are a better choice than Stormsurges or Piranhas. If I was going to take Pathfinders with special weapons, this is how I would do it. I know, and I gave my answer in the second part of my reply. If I had to choose, it'd be Rail Rifles, just ...

Re: Tau Pathfinders - Rail vs. Ion Rifles

Assuming both timing and luck (and Positional Relays) are on your side, you can bring in either Ion or Rail rifles into the weak ark of a vehicle that would normally be untouchable by Pathfinders, like a Dreadnaught or Wave Serpent moving up the side of the field. You can but the issue with that is...

Re: infinite Drone Loop?

that´s a good reasoning, but what if you drop a commander with DC use them to shoot as anoying unit, you would have a huge amount of drones to bother you oponent, while you use your piranhas to keep atacking other targets, also you entire army would have the support of lets say 3 to 4 more units, w...

Re: Hunter contingent synergies

Well, I plan to get Tetras (via CAD) from reserves to act as anchors for the DSing Retaliation or anything else. What Infiltration opens up is the possibility to reserve 2 units with Positional Relays, bring them first from your own table edge (each at 6" of opposite board edges) and then brin...

Re: Hunter contingent synergies

Retaliation: Thus is where it gets messy. Despite being clearly reactive, it does not play well with other reactive, not even itself. Overloading your reserves endangers alpha strike tabling. Plays the worst with infiltration, as the they effectively cancel each other out, creating not a lack, but ...

Re: The "Raven" 'Vre led MSS & C&CN unit size

I fully agree about the roles, but see no reason to assign the Ignores Cover toy to AP4 duty. To me, its best use is by-passing infantry armor saves, Centurion Stars, Wolf Stars, etc, thus PRs & FBs. True! I suppose I've been seeing too many orks and eldar! On the topic of stars though, I hope ...
