Hello everybody!
First things first:

Real first name:
Arno

Age and gender:
31 - male

Location:
Switzerland

Occupation:
Bank Client Advisor

How did you get into wargaming?
next step in my table rpg learning curve (previous step was D&D 3.5ed and 4ed)

How did you get into Tau?
I ran torough researches of statistics, lore, to-win ratios and choosed the one who visually appealed me the most :D
Seen that we will be the last getting a new codex, this means a harder challenge to new Tau players. Easiest way of winning doesn't fulfill my accomplishment-sense.

What would be your second piece of advice (after "read the freakin' rules") to a new Tau player?
Dare new ideas/tactics!

What is your Tau colour scheme?
mostly vomit brown as shown.

How did you find this site/the old site, and how long have you been a member?
After developing my own ideas/tactics I searched the web for a serious forum where to cross-check what I thought with what has been done over the previous years.

What are the origins of your ATT username?
THT is the abbreviation of our "allround clan". 5 people with same hobbies and interests, spacing from motorcycle riding, videogaming, softair, and now warhammer 40k!
Shadow is my 10years long online nickname.

Have you reviewed the ATT Member Primers?
Yes

Where and how often do you usually play?
Up to now my home and 2-4 times per month.

Do you have any other armies, for 40K or another system?
No.

What is your favourite and least favourite army to play against?
I only managed to play against Necron and Tyranids. I developed survivable tactics against 'nids, but I am still struggling against Necrons. My experience so far is mostly theoretical.

What is your best and worst 40K moment?
Best: teaching a good Mont'ka lesson to those Necrons
Worst: they weren't listening... :::(

What does/do your family/significant other/friends think about your 'funny toys'?
My girlfriend understood the mechanics behind such games and that my "funny toys" aren't for children. Her 7yo daughter will paint some kroot for me. I just hope they don't end up being an "hello kitty carnivore armada" of some sort!

What are some of you other interests?
sci-fi in all it's forms (I am a proud member of the 501st Vader Fist), gaming in general.

Do you have any pets?
No

What is your favourite band?
Classical music in my opinion fits best, along heavy metal, while imagining our railguns shoot.

In the meantime I also developed a small excel table in order to quickly plan army lists. I plan making it a database oriented semi automatic army builder, which helps a lot trying new configurations while keeping an eye on the Army Organisation Chart.

That was after having read through the rulebook and codex for the 5 time in a row, without even having played a game. :)

EDIT: I didn't lurk enough... found the excel army builder which is exactly what I wanted to achieve. Well, undoubtly more than what I wanted to achieve. Anyway, my work (which is nothing compared to the professional one I found here) helped a lot in understanding our armory!

I would also like to share my (short) experience so far and my plans for the next months.

I choosed Tau Empire as my army and a dear friend of mine choosed Necrons. Our "teacher" is a Tyranid player who helps us apply the rules on the gaming table. We all know that reading the rulebook thousand times and saying "I know the rules" is completely different from applying them on a game.

So we are playing a sort of houseruled campaign which will be recorded from three different point of view. We end getting three separate reports after each battle.
The first game was a small 500 point game to assess Tau and Necron understanding of the main rules. Fluff-wise it was a detached patrol of Tau waking up a small group of Necrons.
The second game was a bigger detachment being called to handle the situation, 1200 points Tau vs 800 points Necron. Before the battle begun a rushing army of Tyranids (2000 points) landed on that sector, forcing an uncomfortable alliance between Tau and Necrons.

Most of the time will be a Tau vs Necron game, with different rules and table configuration (simply because the 'nids player can't join us too often), occasionally joining forces to fight Tyranids when they show up and gearing toward a 1vs1vs1 game.
When sufficiently comfortable with the rules and gameplay, we plan taking part in a 3vs3 game.

I didn't join to ask which unit/army list is best against Necrons or Tyranids, but to share my progresses and check with you all my tactics. I plan running different "extreme" army lists. By "extreme" I mean heavily oriented towards specific units (i.e. lot of FW, lot of Broadsides, lot of Crisis...). this should allow me to better understand their strenghts/weaknesses and synergy with other units.

Gaining that kind of experience helps a lot when the dice-Gods aren't looking your side.
Then I'll be able to know at least Necrons and Tyranids.
If you don't know your enemy, you are a lot closer to your defeat.

Cheers

Just to show you that you are not talking to yourself and to welcome you here at ATT, let me respond.

Welcome to Advanced Tau Tactica THT-Shadow,

Hello Kitty Carnivores might look really funny ;), but I do understand that you would prefer other colours.

I am looking forward to see your models.

Enjoy your stay here at ATT.

Greetings.

-Gue'vre Che Gue'vesa

Thank you!

Beside the fun factor in having a hellokitty carnivore armada, which I do agree, my fears are about the opponent, denying any kind of cover saves!! Anyway, I will post some of the miniatures I painted in the appropriate area, while most of them have been bought from quitting Tau players.

I am still learning tips & tricks in the painting job!
