Real first name: Alice

Age and gender: 25. A Girl most days

Location: Victoria, B.C.

Occupation: I'm a philosophy student!

How did you get into wargaming? Well, back in the long long ago, me and my schoolyard chums would play a little. Our friend's father must have had about 9000 points of Imperial Guard. We all we pretty enamored with both the models, and the game itself. I spent hours pouring over every picture I could find online, reading and re-reading the White Dwarf magazines, crafting army lists for anything I even considered. In the end, the sheer variety of models was my undoing. I ended up with quite a bit of stuff, but not enough of any one thing. A half dozen Battlefleet Gothic ships, a few Orks in Mega Armour, a handful of Tyranids, a smattering of Mordheim, but I did have good chunk of Space Marines, around a 1000 points worth. I only just rediscovered how awesome all this stuff is, and cannot wait to start collecting one army.

How did you get into Tau? Well I guess I stopped just before the Tau came onto the scene, because all it took was one look at a XV8 Crisis Suit to get me drooling, let alone every other piece of epic in the Tau stable. Seeing one model in the window of the local GW store made me go in and start looking the models again. Got a codex and I've spent the last few months pouring over every word, drafting list after list, saving my pennies little by little.

What would be your second piece of advice (after "read the freakin' rules") to a new Tau player? Log onto this place. The depth of tactical advice is staggering. And there's modelling tips and guides and pretty much everything you need without any fluff. It's even better seeing a forum that prides itself on having acceptable grammar.

What is your Tau colour scheme? Well I'm a huge fan of teal/cyan, you should see my closet... I think I can manage to wear something different that's that shade of blue every darn day. So I was thinking Hawk Turquoise with Bleached Bone for the fabric, and a really bright orange for the sept markings.

How did you find this site/the old site, and how long have you been a member? I had been using google to answer a few specific questions about wargear and this place came up time and time again. I've been lurking for a while now, and I'm gonna start actually buying models at the end of the month, so I figured I might actually register.

What are the origins of your ATT username? Well, I wanted to create a whole background story for my cadre, so I went hunting around on the internet here and I found a list of all the translated Tau words from the various official sources. I can link if y'all would like. Either way, Al'anuk is one of the names of my cadre commander, and it apparently translates to Little-Bird. All part of the story which I would be happy to share as well. :)

Have you reviewed the ATT Member Primers? I surely have!

Where and how often do you usually play? Well, in the long long ago we used to play pretty often, mostly with our friend's dad's titanic Guard army. He also had a boatload of Eldar and Space Marines as well, so we could really get some fun battles going. I've been lurking at the store and talking to my old pals as well. v40k has also been getting a workout, but it's just not the same.

Do you have any other armies, for 40K or another system? Well, not yet... But I also have a pretty awesome idea for an Imperial Guard army. One that decided to join right up with the Tau though. The idea came out of the background for my commander. Would be nice to have two forces so strangers and newbies can try it out.

What is your favourite and least favourite army to play against? Space Marines always bored me. It was par for the course to play against Marines at the local GW store, since more than half the people had them. I can imagine Necrons being a pain though... All those little robots... Le sigh.

What is your best and worst 40K moment? I do remember a brilliant moment where my 5 person Terminator squad were rapid fired at by my pal's Imperial Guardsmen and I lost every man despite that great saving throw. He hit me like 10 or 15 times too. I think that counts for both, don't you?

What does/do your family/significant other/friends think about your 'funny toys'? Pfft, they have way bigger things to worry about than my hobbies. Who cares if people think it's too expensive or that it's silly. I often do things other people consider silly or strange. Also, these things are super pretty, in case nobody noticed

What are some of you other interests? I like to read, I study philosophy, I love riding my bike and I really enjoy tasty food. I want to be a private detective... You know, if I ever have to grow up. :)

Do you have any pets? No... But my folks have a big fat kitty cat that loves me way more than he loves my parents. Does that count?

What is your favourite band? Right now I would say that I am obsessed with CSS, and also loving the new Asteroids Galaxy Tour stuff. I've also been rediscovering my love affair with Dimitri Shostakovich, and I'm attempting to improve my fiddling by listening to lots and lots of creole and acadian folk.

Welcome to Advanced Tau Tactica Al'anuk,

thank you for reading the Membership Primers and filling out this Profile.

I am looking forward to see your work when you start on your Tau, but also I would not mind to see your non-Tau pieces (if you still own them).

Tau'va and enjoy your stay.

Gue'el Che Gue'vesa

Alas Che, I have moved so many times since then that I have totally lost track of everything. Kind of a shame, but it does let me get a real fresh start. I won't be silly and buy everything I think looks cool this time. Now I'll only buy everything Tau that looks cool, which, I would say, would be everything besides Vespid. When I do get that first box of fire warriors for practice and testing purposes I will be sure to take many pictures and keep track of the progress. Also, that's a very clever name you have there Che Gue'vesa...

I had notice that this was a rather welcoming place, which would be why I actually signed up.

That there link was what got me the list, well that link had a link to the list. Which was really informative and very interesting. I would be very willing to share my character's background story. It's wonderful how much depth there is to the lore in the 40k world, and the mutability of that lore is fantastic. Having the freedom to play around in the game's history is a lot of fun. Since I always tend to get a little bit personally involved with characters in books, movies, music, videogames, here was an opportunity to throw some personality into things and give my force it's own background. It's a bit of a read though, and I wonder if I should post all of it right here, or somewhere else, or upload a document or something like that.

For an extremely brief summary, it's the story of how my commander became the first human to join the fire caste. Given the right situation, I don't think it's that far fetched to think that the Tau would induct a worthy candidate into their ranks. The Tau are certainly a very pragmatic, diplomatic and seemingly utilitarian culture given the background lore I've read, and they do not seem the type to waste talent simply because of racial prejudice. Maybe I've been watching too much Shogun though, so I would love to hear why it's not within the realm of possibility if that's what you fine folks think.

Don't worry, I ... lost ... yeah lets say lost ... quite a bunch of WHFB models when I started with Tau and now I am sorry for it.

In this case I will be looking forward to see your Tau models.

I had thought a lot about that name, and there is a fluff-story behind it ... but since I never wrote it down it changed more and more ... maybe I should finally get that fluff on 'paper'.

Salutations Al'anuk, and welcome aboard!

A half dozen Battlefleet Gothic ships

I'm guessing they are by now long since lost in time, but if a few still remain then I'd dearly love to see them. I'm rather something of a Battlefleet Gothic enthusiast you see, and strongly encourage any and all to get into it.

I also look forward to hearing more about this commander Bluebird...
