Greetings fellow Tau players! I've decided to get back into Tau (yup, I stepped away from them for a time but I was drawn back but more on that later). As I've played in WHFB I've usually gotten into a forum to assist me in getting started and with problem solving and eventually giving back a little. For anyone whom may be curious I've got memberships on Lustria-online and Warhammer-Empire. At any rate I'd better get to the meat of who I am.
Real first name: Alexander but most call me Alex
Age and gender: 31 year old male
Location: Kansas, USA
Occupation: Police Officer and nerd
How did you get into wargaming? Buddy introduced it to me while I was on active duty Army.
How did you get into Tau? It looked like a cool army when the book first came out and I wanted to get into WH40K. I had that army for quite a few years, building up to around 10,000 points. Then I was deployed to Iraq and when I got back I wanted to downsize the number of armies I had and I cut 40K out completely except for a small contingeant of Imperial Guard (my first army which was more of a modeling project than a real playable list). This time around I was playing an Apoc. game with another buddy and he got to talking about the Forge World models for Tau and my fire was reignighted.
What would be your second piece of advice (after "read the freakin' rules") to a new Tau player? Listen to the older members of the forum. These vets have been through countless battles with their armies (and probably a few have other armies as well) and they know their stuff.
What is your Tau colour scheme? Undesided but I like the blues of the Sa'cea Sept and Ke'lshan Sept.
How did you find this site/the old site, and how long have you been a member? I did a google search and it was the first hit. I lurked for a couple of days, checking out what everyone had to say about what lists were good and units that were effective. Then I decided I'd better get a membership and starting getting more active.
What are the origins of your ATT username? It's the last name of one of my favorite characters from Terry Goodkind's series Sword of Truth. It's also used in sequal novel by the same author "The Omen Machine" and an attached novel "The Law of Nine" The main character, Richard Rahl (and Alexander Rahl from Law of Nines) are very grounded characters whom value the greater good and life above stupidity and death. They are also very intelligent and thinking individuals which I think also embody Tau society.
Have you reviewed the ATT Member Primers? Yes
Where and how often do you usually play? I play at one of our local game clubs; Hero Complex. I used to play about every other Friday but we've since moved to every other Saturdays. I also am an avide WHFB player, usually getting in about one or two games a week.
Do you have any other armies, for 40K or another system? I'm working on my Imperial Guard army currently at 14,000 points but my goal is 39,000. Its my main Apoc. army that I play about once every year. I've also got a Necron army of around 8,000 points which is about as big as it's going to get. In WHFB I play Lizardmen, Empire, and Ogre Kingdoms.
What is your favourite and least favourite army to play against? I usually play against Dark Angels and Dark Eldar in my regular games. In my yearly Apoc. game I also go against Orks, Eldar, and Imperial Guard. If I had to choose an army I liked and disliked I would say I most enjoy playing against Dark Angels and because my buddy is a good friend and we can play an easy game together and share tactics and strategies. I least like to play against Dark Eldar because they are FAST and get into your face way too quickly!
What is your best and worst 40K moment? My best moment was when I took down a Thunderhawk Gunship without using any Anti-Air shooting. My worst was playing against one of my other buddies who complained endlessly about everything under the sun...it was not my most favorite Apoc. battle.
What does/do your family/significant other/friends think about your 'funny toys'? My Wife supports me but warns against purchasing too much stuff too often. I have friends who think it's cool and many think I'm a fantastic painter. Others call my models "dolls" and raz me but it's all in good fun.
What are some of you other interests? I like to shoot my guns (being a Cop I have to maintain my balistic skill, I think I might be around a 5 at the moment). I also like to play computer and PS3 games. I also enjoy reading and I love to paint and build armies.
Do you have any pets? Three dogs, two I keep outside and one is an indoor pet. Jack (Cairn ter.) we keep inside and out two outside dogs are Connor (German Short hair) and Cellvice (B. Lab/Husky). I also have an 18 month old son.
What is your favourite band? I guess it would be Maroon 5 but I also like others. Journey, Matchbox 20, ZZ Top, Disturbed, and CCR to name a couple. I also like artists like Van Morrison, Colbie Caillat, Darius Rucker and more.
