If I could make a poll, this would be one. Alas I cannot and so must resort to the more primitive method of asking people to physically write out their response.

Basically, I'm in the process of modelling another suit pattern, possibly named 'Forgeling', and I have been tinkering with some thruster designs but can't decide on one, or if any are good at all. The pretext is a suit that is meant to handle the heavier weaponry, but not railguns etc..

All opinions welcome.

If I were to choose any of them it would have to be the last one, using all-Tau parts.

Hmmmm, IMHO the 2nd design would be my choice.

EDIT - Reason for my choice -
IMO it seems like it could be physically plausible (as plausible as 40k could ever be .... :P) , the upper thrusters looks as if they would be used to maneuver the suit. The lower thrust cluster gives the impression of heavier lifting power which would be more suited to your proposed role of the suit.

I must put in a vote for option #4 too. It looks cooler the more you look at it ......

I'm inclined to agree with the Honored Shas'o. The last design is both more visually interesting and uses all-Tau bits, which is almost always a bonus.

last one seems the most reasonable looking function wise, + it looks cooler :)

I am a fan of both the second and last designs. The second would definitely become my choice if you were to Tau-ify the marine jump packs a bit more though I am not sure how exactly you could go about it.

An even split between #2 and #4 so far. The only thing definite is that apparently options #1 and #3 are out.

This is a fairly amusing thread to keep track of. :crafty:

Indeed. I quite liked #3 to be honest, but apparently it's not very Tau. I'm not very keen on #4 and, in hindsight, #1 looks stupid. Unless I can be convinced otherwise I think it's gonna be #2.

I agree and disagree with our 'O. Two looks the most "visually" appealing, as it has very good symetry, has a lot of awesome elements and just looks "functional.

However, Design four indeed looks completely Tau(because it is completely Tau) and it has a cool thruster design. To me though it looks more like a design intended for space combat or high altitude fighting. This is mostly because the thrusters are ONLY directed horizontally so they would be more fit for moving forward rather than actually lifting off the ground...

I lean towards 4 myself (though I'd try to show the lower thrusters on a pivot for vertical or horizontal thrust). 2 has potential, and I imagine would be a little cheaper if you do lots of suits that way, since you can get the packs as bitz quite easily

4 wins my vote. The layout is more appealing, but maybe consider angling the thrusters themselves downwards more so it looks like it can lift the suit... or something along those lines.

Personally number 2 wins my vote something about it just... looks right. Number 4 just looks odd to me. Maybe if the thrusters were tilted down a little more it would look better.

I like the 2nd engine configuration shown. I think that it makes the most sense to me. You have more vertical lift and still the top thrusters will be able to propel the suit forward and also side to side. :fear:

Design 2 makes the most sense to me, being jump jets and all, the overall design appearing to provide the most downward thrust.

I have to say I am fond of 2 and 4 but I know what I think would make number 4 look better and that would be to rotate the bottom thrusters so that they face outward about 90* But other than that #2 has my vote :D.

Results:

1 - 7 - 0 - 6

#2 is the thruster pattern I'll be constructing. You can find the log for this project here. The back setup should be done some time next week.
