The problem is with using the official gun barrels is that now that GW is no longer carrying bitz, they're hard to find. Battlewagon bitz is out of stock of them as well.

GDT.

GrimDarkTau.

Running joke on the board I generated the name from.

I'm pretty sure you can salvage it, it'll just take some effort. Check out the threads other people have made about scratch building Tiger sharks and Mantas for more ideas about how to make your rail guns, because your current ones really let the model down. Also, the flat surfaces you've added to cover the carrying handle and the part where you cut the pistol handles off could do with neatening up, and blending in with green stuff or similar. Lastley, that kind of toy plastic is notorious for resisting paint, it either doesn't stick or flakes off easily. I'm not sure if it's that type of plastic, I don't have any Nerf weapons (I wish I did), but if it is, I would suggest sanding the whole thing down with fine sandpaper if you can be bothered (and if it is the plastic I'm thinking of) before the priming layer of paint.

I've finally got the time and resources to start working again. I got some green stuff and fixed up the turret bases, and I must admit they look much better.

I'm also working on the base and that'll be dry soon enough, then I have to distribute the weight a little better towards the back and get more green stuff to smooth it out. First time working with the stuff, but I'm picking it up quickly.

As a side bonus, my Crisis suit commander WIP.

Hehehe Gouf... favorite...

Honestly it looks more like an imperial vessel than tau. still cool though. Very. I think I'll go get a nerf longshot now, I cant believe how cool it looks in one solid color- I honestly thought it was some sort of model ship (until seeing the pistol grip).

It looks decent from a distance. I got the desired effect with it on it's stand. Now I just need to paint it and detail it..

There was a mishap.

At least I get to re-design the turrets.

Mishap? Dude thats like a major kick in the face..that SUCKS.

I pity you..but I also urge you to finish this twice as fast, since you now have to go back and redo everything.

Ouch, what happened?

Don't let this mishap lower your morale for the project! Look at the bright side, it could have also been destroyed to small pieces of un fixability!

Stronger Base now.

New uniform, bigger, metal turret barrels.

I'm going to attach them directly to the ship instead of on posts this time.

Lastly, I'm going to change the theme slightly.. The Mess of Greenstuff (and greystuff) into Daemonic corruption of sorts. Yes, fluff states that Tau have low warp signature.. But Technology is susceptible to corruption.

I've always added posable grappling claws to bring a vehicle into battle or salvage one out.

Could you please resize your images to be much smaller. I have a 24 inch monitor and I'm still forced to side scroll to see these. Thanks in advance.

Edit: 640x480 is a good size to aim for, as it is the most compatible with user's monitors and bandwidth. Photobucket and ImageShack provide the option to resize your images as you upload them.

Trying to cover the crappy done green stuff with some "armor plating". I figure it'd be better to fix in painting later, and I personally think it looks much better.

Remaining steps:

Attach turrets and bits. Lots. And lots. Of bits.

Oh, and as a side note? A simple, $30 paper cutter is AMAZING for cutting straight lines on plasticard. I was having serious trouble with it trying to freehand.. But the cutting board helped a ton.

This is an awesome project, it reminds me so much of the UNSC ships from Halo, which is a good thing (those ships are so cool). It will be beautiful to see painted, have you thought of any rules yet, THAT would be cool!
