Tau Swamp Fighters- PidGinRat's Tau Army

Hey there ATT- I've finally had the oppertunity to photograph some of the minis I've been working on, and thought I'd share them with ya. The feel I am going for is a dirtier, more gritty version of Tau than per usual- Tau who have been lying face down in the mud for a month in the thick of fighting in a backwater swamp world called Luvia- and far beyond the usual lines of supply. The whole force is such that the Cadre can be transported on a single Manta- kind of an in-the-field base of operations, where repairs are made on-the-fly, and the Earth caste engineers are free to make modifications and alterations- bypassing damaged systems and replacing them with modular upgrades. So, hopefully the army has a bit of a rag-tag appearance, but still maintains the Tau aesthetic. Ultimately, everything will be carried in robust Devilfish Transports, but they're still under construction.

Appologies to the slow-intarweb peeps.

First and Foremost- the infantry, fighting men (and women) of the Tau.

Then, Some Pathfinders- these don't have much in the way of conversions- mostly just some extra pouches and shoulder straps to help them out in the field.

More Pics to come- but that rounds out the Infantry for the Luvian Mechanized Cadre

Awesome, I like the choice of colors. I think that pallet choice is the hard part of paint but you a excellent job at it. The female conversions were done very tastefully, you didn't make them the busty, skinny anime kind of girl you made them all to the right proportions.

I like all the pouches, are they mostly imperial?

Thanks for the warm reception all!

Wash Out- the Female heads are mostly new Deamonette Plastic heads- with a bit of filing on the noses and scaly parts to soften their look into more 'Tau' and less 'Eat Your Face.'

Frosty'vre- The pouches are indeed mostly Imperial- Combination of Space Marine, Imperial Guard, and even some Dwarf pouches- as Tael I believe recommended on a post or two.

O'Shas'ar- Very nearly caught me- a Fella's head or two actually have come from Catachan sprues, with filed down nose bits, and some forehead slits sculpted back in with Green Stuff.

Soon, some pics of Stealths and other Suits (In Progress) - See Below

Love the look and feel of your force so far. The painting of the armor and the handling of the bases seems appropriate given the conditions. Keep up the good work!

Very Nice! Your paint scheme works very well and your basing choices complement your scheme making it much easier on the eyes and in return more lovable. Your very good at highliting and I enjoy seeing the very good conversions you did with your ladies. Very good, all I can say is keep it up, your doing great.

I really like your conversions, they are all very well executed. What did you do for making the reverse knees on the crisis suit legs?

You've really achieved a nice natural ascetic with the use of dark eldar torsos for the female shas :nice: The segmented areas blend really well with the tau ones.

The unique touches on the models such as the cloth binding on the rifle, the drawn knife and the touching of the aerial really add character to them all.

Thank you for sharing with us, you've given me all sorts of inspiration :D

Freaking beautiful work, man. 10/10 for your conversions, and the paint job is not far behind. These guys look incredibly capable and tough, and you're the first person I've ever seen come up with more than one decent way to do female Tau conversions. I especially love the female Shas'ui.

This is a great looking army, PidGinRat. It's nice too that you have a background to the army which allows you to diverge from the normally pristine renditions of armour and fatigues.

vERY nice work here!

I can't wait to see some tanks getting done in this scheme. Great fluff, sweet conversions, although I would be tempted to revisit the yellow applications and make them smoother?

cheers

Thanks for all the kind words all!

Paulson Games- The Reversed Knees on the suits are a short length of round tubing cut to the same width as the regular knee, then glued behind it with the lower leg coming down from that. Then a couple bits of plastic that I had in my bits box (I think they're from KNex or some such) to form the armor around it. On the next set, I'll take some WIP pics to better explain it.

Warhound- Too right on the yellow! I've not been too happy with how thick I did lots of the squad markings initially- but I figure a first pass at the rest of the force first, before circling round for another go.

Speaking of making progress- I've snapped some shots of my Stealth Suits- not too many conversions on them, just some extra cables and such that the Fio may have needed to make for emergency by-passes and such. The 'phasing' effect has been done elsewhere, and better- but I liked it enough to try it myself. C&C Always welcome.

Sorry to change the subject temporarily, but please, don't call them femle tau. Tau are people too! They are women, not savage Dark eldar or Chaos Marines. And don't go thinking I'm a woman either.

Anyway.

Some nice conversion work there. I especially like the woman shas'ui (the one with the headband type thing), something looks friendley about her face. Did you sculpt those yourself?

PidGinRat,

Really great work!! As for the Stealth Suits, I would say that they are par with some of the best cloaking effects I've seen.

Also I think the basing of your army should be pointed out. Basing models well is as important as the models themselves and you've certainly taken the time to create interesting bases that complement your Tau.

Fantastic to see yet another great army arrive on our beloved ATT!!

Keep up the nice work and the updates.

Hey again all- and as always thanks for the encouragement.

T'Owel- The Woman Shas'Ui head is actually a Dark Eldar Wych head, with some liberal filing, sculpting, and green-stuff adjustments. I'm glad you like her! :D

In an ongoing documentation of the stuff I have currently painted, while working on expanding the army- I have taken some shots of my Hammerhead. I really appreciate the look of Tau vehicles as-is, they're one of the reasons I got drawn to the army. With that in mind, my conversions on the Hammerhead consists mostly of making it looked hastily serviced- a missing panel, ect. I've sculpted the Disruption Pod on the front there, and in an apparent affront to many sensibilities, I've installed some LEDs in the sensor, cockpit and Engine Nacelles.
