1st Tau Airborne, if you do not like GW's Tau ships you can always try Forgeworld's line, which are very different in aesthetic and are surprisingly reasonable in price.
The reason why there are no sept markings is because I just don't have the precision to paint them free-hand and there are no flat spaces big enought to put a transfer on (I have checked).
Sorry if this sounded hostile, I was woken up early today, so I am somewhat cranky.

No you are completely fine my friend. I have checked forgeworld stuff but I need mods for the normal Tau ships. Ill have to look into moding some of my forgeworld ships. I was just throwing a few ideas out is all man. I could give you a few tips as to steady your hand if you want to give the sept markings a go.

I was just wondering if you have ever actually played BFG before, because one ship is certainly not a fleet. If you haven't I suggest playing a few battles with poker chips, because they are the same size as small flying bases, which most of your ships will be. If you have never played before, and you go ordering ships, you are potentially wasting your money, as some ships in our fleet will be completely useless, depending on your play style and/or opponents. Just to be nice, I'm not going to tell you what is useless, just so you can find out with yourself by wasting your money. Have fun.

While I have not yet played a game of BFG before, I know full well that one ship is not a fleet. However, it is a work in progress, and I do plan on expanding it into a proper fleet.
Also, I have done significant research on the SG Tau fleet, so I know the general gist of how it works effectively, and what ships most people consider completely useless (Merchants, if I am not mistaken).
Edit: 1st Tau airborne, I believe he was refering to me

Hey there folks, I have both good news and bad news The bad news is that just recently my girlfriend broke up with me. The good news is that some time ago, the forgeworld models I ordered arrived, so I now own 8 (yes 8) Mantas, and 10 Barracudas. Not sure yet as to how I am going to paint them with any degree of accuracy (I am thinking of using a magnifying glass), and I have been wallowing in depression for the past two days so there are no photos of them yet, but I will get around to taking some shortly.

Well, I was hoping I would not have to triple post, it seems that I must. Anyway, here are some pictures of my new ordinance Counter clockwise from right: Mantas, Barracudas, all on same picture with bases. Now I just need some way of painting them with any degree of accuracy.

See, I like the Aeronautica tau ships more because they are of a decent size. I would suggest cleaning them and priming black, then drybrushing a lighter version of your cadre color and do a light black wash, then give a little bit of detail work.

Greetings all After having a faulty compression coil replaced, I finally got around to painting my ordinance. Now I just need to find a stand that will support my spaceship.

Hi there Kakapo42; I very much like the colour schemes on your ships, they look sharp. Do you have any more ships for your fleet on the way? Kakapo42 wrote: Now I just need to find a stand that will support my spaceship. Perhaps drilling a hole in the bottom of the spaceship and using a flying stand to support it? If the plastic isn't strong enough, using a metal pin drilled into the stand in place of the plastic sticky-uppy bit at the top of the stand will make it far more sturdy. Keep up the good work mate, what you have so far is looking good and it will be interesting to see your fleet grow!

Arise my thread, arise. Hello Sherpa, thank you for your kind words. As a moody self-critical teenager, they do wonders for my self-esteem. The problem is indeed a case of the plastic not being strong enough. I will have to look into metal rods. Now then, time for an update! The next wave of ships just arrived yesterday. First up a group of Orca-class gunships: Next is a Merchant class. Here is the retro-cool packaging it came in: And an exploded view: Unfortunately I was unable to get good close-ups of the individual components, so there are no images of them, just a group shot. Now, I have two big problems with my Merchant. The first is that last night I discovered, to my horror, that my superglue had died and is now nought but a gelatinous glob of, erm...something. The other, much bigger problem, is that the core piece of the Merchant has been badly cast, and the front section is somewhat twisted. As it is a metal component, I am somewhat unsure of what to do about it, and it is too thick for my standard procedure for dealing with such distortions. If any of the finely honed minds here have any suggestions, I'm all ears. However, remember that I am only an adolescent male, and my resources are very limited.

Contact GW and tell them about the miscast. Chances are you'll get a new model to replace it.

...And THAT is why I'm scared to start BFG. It's all metal, aaa GW's pics really don't do the ships justice, though. I might order some now.

And, at least from what I've seen and been told(thanks to people at my local HobbyTown USA), the ForgeWorld models are resin, as with all their other stuff.

Correct, the forgeworld BFG line is all resin. Quote: GW's pics really don't do the ships justice, though. I might order some now. Hooray, I might have convinced someone to get into BFG. Funnily enough though, I myself rather like GW's pics of them. Another update soon people.

Kakapo42 wrote: Correct, the forgeworld BFG line is all resin. Hilariously, this actually makes the ForgeWorld models cheaper than the GW ones. And, since they're far better both in looks (IMO) and in rules, there's really no reason to buy the old metal ones. Kakapo42, have you looked at the stats for the new Tau ships in IA3? If not, you may revise your fleet list once you see them.

Cheaper they may be, but they're too sensible to trust Paypal and I don't have a credit card.

Hello Peregrine, nice of you to drop by.
I own a copy of IA3 and have indeed looked at the stats for forgeworld's line. I was very tempted to purchase them instead. But deep down I myself prefer the GW ships. A large part of it is that I prefer their 'floating city' aesthetic, but they also resonate with me. Maybe it's because when I was younger I was exposed to a lot of older sci-fi artwork, and some of my happiest childhood memories were looking through my dad's copy of Mehanismo, maybe it's because I'm a huge fan of Firefly so I'm drawn to the idea of old but trusty transport ships, or maybe it's because as a teenager I subconsciously see purchasing a GW Tau fleet as a way to rebel against mainstream society, but for whatever the reason, the GW line appeals to me more than forgeworld's. To each their own I guess.
My apologies if that accidentally became a screed and I have caused offence, that was not my intention in the least.
Catland88, go for whatever fleet or faction you like the most. It is ultimately your decision and yours alone to make.
And in other news, I have just sent GW an email concerning my misfortunes with the Merchant. Here goes nothing...
Update is imminent people, don't touch that dial. Or keyboard/mouse, as the case may be.

Yeah, catland, get what ever fleet you want. Me, I have a SM fleet painted in the colors of my future chapter, the Iron Dragons.
I would personally recommend go Imperial first so you can get used to using ships as they are the easiest to use. Then you can brach out from there.
