Aftermath of the invasion of Greyom

+++

"What is he doing Shas'Saal!" Shas'Ui M'ai J'karra was trying not to scream in disbelief. Before him and his entire slack jawed cadre stood their father, their brother, their Shas'O, and he was toying with the enemys wounded.
"I don't know Shas'Ui, There is a bet that was started by the kroot that he is looking for a...well..." The Shas'Saal stood silent, his face masked behind the fire warriors distinctive, emotionless helmet. J'karra was becoming impatient, the urge to strike the young one was almost too overwhelming. Even as un-Tau like as it sounded, he knew he could feel his rage building up. He drew is survival knife from its customary sheath and stroked the tip of the blade down the Shas'Saals helmet.
"Shas'Saal I am becoming most impatient with this ridiculous talk of some bet. Tell me what the rumour is or I will make sure that you have another lense to see out of." The Shas'Saal froze completly, the only sign that he was still alive was the sound of his microphone clicking on and off as he was trying to consider the correct words.
"The kroot...they...they say that they saw him looting a dead Gue'La and that he found some sort of blade and he's...he's looking for his...well his prey Shas'Ui."
"What do you mean prey! Speak boy!"
"They say he's hunting down a worthy opponent to test the blade on! To see how much pain it would inflict upon his own, to see if the cut will be clean or if it will tear the flesh!
"You mean..."
"Yes Shas'Ui! They say he is losing his mind, resorting to the Gue'La ways of torture, They say his mind is returning to the ways of the Mon'tau!" The fear was almost radiating from the young trooper, it was so strong that the kroot were becoming restless and their hounds were tugging and whining trying to reach the fearful, to run him down and play with their prey.
"No this can not be...listen to me Shas'Saal and listen close, if I hear any more of these rumours, I will personally throw the Tau responsible into the kroot hounds pit. You understand?"
"Yes Shas'Ui." The Shas'saal was still frozen to the spot, except now he was starting to shake slightly.
"Good, now get and start spreading that rumour." J'karra scanned the area, registering the names of each of the surrounding fire warriors in ear shot of the convosation through his helmets heads up display.
Shas'La M'ai Kais, Shas'La M'ai Be'gel Eur'ii, Shas'La M'ai A'io and...Shas'Ui M'ai Vor'i my, my ,my this will be interesting to hear her thoughts...I wonder if her spirit for defiance will change when I send those five to clean out the hound pits.
After making a mental note J'karra unbuckled his helmet, letting his braid drape down his right shoulder onto his chest. His bionic eye whurled as it tried to gain focus on the new enviroment, the golden mechanics glowed in the dimness of the swamp world and his bare face soon became saturated with the constant rain of the planet. But this didnt bother the old Shas'Ui just as it didn't bother any of the Tau from the swamp world of M'ai, this is what they experianced daily throughout their entire lives, only stopping when they were indoors or aboard the space ship heading towards this planet of Greyom.
J'karra started towards the Shas'O. He was going to put a stop to this one way or another...

+++

So that is just an intro into the story of my swamp world based cadre, "The Shadow Stalkers" all shall be explained in due time but until then I shall have to leave you all on a cliff hanger. ;) I have taking a lot of inspiration from our fellow Shas'O Wolf16 and his cadre, So Shas'O Wolf16 I salute you sir!

Onto my cadre the basic scheme is chaos black primary with goblin green secondary,
In the case of a fire warrior this would be black armour with green fatigues.
I currently have a small number of mini's painted so I shall take some pictures and post them up here shortly. Until then, please leave comments on what you think of the colour scheme and the introduction to my little batch of "friendly" troopers ;)

I bid you good day.

Devil out. :fear:

Ok guys so here is the colour scheme for my army,
Image

And here is also my "best" tester, he is currently unfinished to please bare with me but I belive he has turned out very well.
Image

Image
Image
As you can see he still needs some details on him such as sept markings and some details painting in.

Let me know what you think guys. :D
Enjoy Devil :fear:

EDIT:

Been doing abit of work on some more models, been painting the basic colour scheme on various units to see how well they looked, so for now none of them have any detail or bases.
So far you've seen the pathfinder ( which is still in desperate need of detailing and basing, :( ) let me introduce le stealth suit and the etheral of the shadow stalkers cadre.

First let me introduce the stealth suit.
Image
Image
And heres the Etheral, Aun' To'i.

I will probably be adding some more fluff to the story of my cadre soon enough guys, till then just be patient ;)

A nice collection of models you have got there,

but lets avoid double posting, it is something different when you update the next day.

Oh sorry Che, didn't realise  don't you worry I won't be making the same mistake twice ;) next post will prob be in a few days when I sorted out my college work, researched the historical archives for the encrypted data to the battle of Greyom, and after a few more Shas'Las have left the acadamy and joined the ranks of the Shadow Stalkers.
Thanks for putting me straight though my friend.

Well I am humbled by your comments! I truly enjoy creating background for my models, as it just makes the process more fun!

Now let's dig into this!

First off, I'm having trouble understanding exactly what was happening in your story. Is there a Tau that is acting bizarre or barbaric that it is causing this issue? I was just a little confused on who was doing what.

Anyway, let's talk about the color scheme. I'll admit that the dark colors would suit a swamp cadre, but as it stands, it's looking really dark, sort of like greenish blob. I had a similar problem when I started my Tau. They just looked like weird grey shapes! :)

Black is a tough color. It can be very hard to get it to look right. Let me ask, are you committed to color scheme? Might I suggest perhaps a dark green for the armor and maybe a light brown for the clothe. It would make it a bit easier to paint and get the details to stand out better. What do you think? It's your army, but maybe consider some alternative schemes. :) Oh, look at pg.59 of the Codex, specifically the D'yanoi swamp scheme.

In regard to the Stealth suit, how do you feel about attempting a stealth transition effect? It is much easier than it seems! You simply use some light blue in a squiggly line across the stealth...er....horizon? Then you use another squiggly white line on top of that to create the effect. Maybe leave the special techniques for later. :D

Oh and last question, what Sept are your Tau from? M'ai? Is that your own creation? Might I suggest looking at the Guide to the Septs of the Empire thread that is stickied in the Library. It would be a very helpful read.

I will be watching! Great start to your thread.

Hey dude, yeah something is going on, the point was to start of confusing so that later on everything becomes clearer until it's hit the point were everyone goes, "OHHHHH!" :D Don't worry though, that clearance will be in the next little bit of fluff :)

I understand the issue with the colour scheme, but at the present moment in time all those models aren't actually finished,I just wanted to post the basic concept. They still need highlighting and what not, however I have experimented with a number of them and dry-brushing codex grey onto the black armour defines the edges much more. I think I will also experiment with different greens too.
I like the idea of the stealth suit so I shall try that later on but at the present moment in time I just don't have enough paints :(.

And last ( but most certianly not least :crafty: ) yes M'ai is of my own creation, I was also going to dedicate some fluff to the world itself, the idea behind the planet itself was that it was believed to be an uninhabited world that was discovered after the most recent push in to the third sphere expansion. And the highest caste members believed that it could maintain a small colony of Tau for a re-supply station, ( what you think? If you think it's abit far fetched then I shall happily reconsider :) )

I will continue work on the pathfinder so that you can see the colour scheme when its completed, hopefully you may be able to tell the difference then, if not then I may have to steal your D'yanoi idea ;) The most puzzling part of the whole scheme isn't actually the models themselves, it's the bases. I'm considering maybe amputating some limbs to give the effect of wading through water but other than that I'm unsure on what to do.

Thanks for all the help Wolf.
Devil off to scout the swamps in search of his lone pathfinder :fear:

I see. Well I'm looking forward to seeing the completed scheme!

As for the bases, I'd suggest searching the web for some tips on swamp bases. I know others on this site have done that theme with great success. I know Secret Weapon Miniatures has a swamp basing kit that lets you get water effects and all that. Give them a look.

In regard to the Sept, remember that a Sept is a collection of worlds, not just one world. There are a few unnamed Septs of the 3rd Sphere Expansion, but we have so many existing Septs that could use some flavor, so I'd be more inclined to flesh them out than start my own. But that it me!

Hey guys, ok so I've been working on that pathfinder to show you all the finished scheme. So without further waiting here you go:

I believe that that it looks a lot better now that it's actually finished :P but I would very much so enjoy your comments.
Unfortunetly I still can't seem to figure out what to do with the bases, I still like the idea of a swamp based cadre but I am unsure whether to ditch that idea and create a woodland or jungle based force instead.

I have a little project I am currently working on too. This is just a mock up that I created a while ago, sorry for picture quality I think it's bad quality due to the base colour being black but I'm unsure, sorry :?

Image

And here a size referance next to my favourite Shas'La.

Can anybody guess what the prototype is going to be yet ? :crafty:

Would love to hear your comments guys,
Devil :fear:

at first i thought it counts as a broadside, double barrels and missiles at e back and all. but i realized you need a base for that... is it supposed to be a hammerhead??? a bit small for that don't you.

on a sidenote, that would make a great triach stalker.

First of all my friend, I did say it was a prototype,
Second, who said I wasn't making a base :crafty:
And third my friend, please be more careful with your grammar and what not, sorry to bring it up but it's happened to all of us once :D

wow, people here sure are friendly!

1) perfectly true. you asked us to guess what it was, which i did.
2) a termie base wont fit that model. at the least, you would never be able to use it in competitions. for friendly play, it shouldnt be a problem though.
3) duly noted. im so sorry and thankful that your english is good enough that you can understand my post despite my terrible grammar. :D i typed it in a rush as it was a short lunch break but i'm sure glad there are friends like you to point it out :)

Hey DF12, just a few comments!

The basic idea "swamp fighters" I find to be a really good direction to bring your Cadre from.
-usually the jungle thing is left to kroot, so your Tau would have to be at least a little bit sideways (maybe only in the eyes of other Tau, but still!)
-They have to fight in closer ranges (all those trees and other things mucking up your firing ranges :( )
-Their vehicles could have cool camouflage schemes as well!
-Your commander would probably have experience fighting the catachan imperial guard, who have a load of sneaky tricks up their sleeves, and your Commander would probably have a few grudges against them (hence the torture and other near-Tau'va breaking behavior)
- The fluff for your cadre could look into the process of a number of things. The canon for Tau shows them as united, passionate spreaders of the Greater Good, and if you do it right, you could show us what a Tau has to go through to begin the Mon'Tau, even if it is on just a personal level.

Cheers, and hope you stay motivated with the fluff writing! The only way to get better is write some more!

Now I feel compelled to go find those old Word documents with my Cadre's fluff. Last I remember, they were on a forge world, stealing superheavy tanks......

@Shinji-I shall be updating the model at a later date...more specifically I shall be creating an experimental suit based on the "prototype" And you were correct, it was meant to be a braodside, I know there isn't a base but I had no spare crisis bases, I am however considering creating some version like it to represent a normal crisis but as of yet not entirely sure, would love to here your thoughts :)

@OmegaStriker-To be honest, I don't really understand what you were getting at there, sorry mate. :?
Did you mean you think I should stick with the swamp based tau or should I go jungle?
Because you mentioned a lot of jungle related things there such as the catachan ( could also be used on a swamp world ) and the kroot. So could you please clear that up for me? :nice:
However I understood the rest of the post, also I the next post shall include more fluff I promise, so keep an eye on this post :crafty:
Thanks for the comments guys

Having a spider-shape for a termie model is usually tough cause the legs usually wont fit on a termie base. A major plus point is that this could mean that very few (maybe none) have done such a conversion, making it very unique.

I have a few thoughts on how to get it to fit on a termie base. you can probably make it smaller, till it is about the size of a termie model. then, to fit the wide legs on the base, you could perch the model on some elevated terrain, like it is climbing up or down. This would also make it look really cool!

I looked around for a example of this. Could not find a ideal example, but this is close enough to get an idea i hope:

Image

hope my suggestions help!

I understand what your saying my friend and I appreciate your effort to help, however I assumed that Crisis and terminators have two seperate bases? have I been wrong this whole time?
Also the model can fit crisis suit bases as the limbs can be positioned accordingly ( it was actually accidental ;) )
Once again though thankyou for your effort to help, and I may actually nab that idea and create some form of drama on the base you'll just have to wait and see ;) .

Ok guys I thought I'd update with some fluff :D

Spoiler: show Shas'O Vral Ukos ( The Uppercutting Spoon)

It's a rather long piece of fluff for the commander, so I understand if you don't want to read it, however I would love to hear your feed back.
The commander is coming along very nicely all I need now is some blue tac to arrange his suit limbs and I shall be posting up some pictures for you to dig into. ;)

Hysterical story, great punch line. That's a hell of a way to earn a deed-name. I really dig it. I especially like how the Commander was comfortable with getting his hands dirty.

Why thank you my friend, I remember browsing the internet and I came across a forum with tau words, when I found the words for 'spoon' and 'uppercut' I knew that, that was what my Shas'O needed to be called :D
I have been conferring with a friend of mine and I think that he is going to originate from the D'yanoi sept. The sept is rather backwords by tau standards and thus the commader and his cadre are regarded as odd and are watched suspiciously by other 'modern' tau. :crafty:

Yeap, crisis suits, broadsides and termies all use the 40mm base.
