Mainly inspired by Nevar's Kill Team blog, I decided to dig out the Assault on Black Reach Termies I had in one of my many boxes under my bed (currently home to 5 armies :D ). A bit of converting etc and now onto the painting. So far just one Terminator complete with a freehand standard (third company by the way, mainly due to being the easiest to do at the time! :D ). Here are the results:

For a more dynamic pose I cut through the waist with a hacksaw (carefully) and added a bit of putty in between the arms and torso to spread them out rather than have them sticking out straight. Game wise he is just a regular termie since only command/honour guard squads can have a standard  .

I have one terminator on the painting station as well:

Nothing too special here, just a scout sword blade hut off by the handle and stuck on the powerfist to have a spare chainfist hanging around when I need it.

That's all for now, will hopefully update soon.

Nice freehand on the standard.

I would never care in-game but as far as modelling goes the sword doesn't convince me it's a chain blade. Since he's in progress maybe use a piece of chainsword from an IG sprue (they're a tad smaller than the marine ones I believe)?

It doesn't look bad at all I just don't see chainsword.

Wish I could freehand that well. I have to stick to transfers for banners. Nice minis.

Perhaps make the chain blade a short power blade. Easy enough to do with paint.

Thought I would update this a bit:
So far I have 3 termiators completed, with the sergeant and heavy weapon termies to go:
Here are the completed ones:

And the sergeant so far:

I'm also looking for names for these guys (apart from the sergeant, he is to be called Samuel).

Nice models!

Did you by chance use the freehanding technique wherein you paint a vague shape, then highlight, then add black line around the contours and clean it up? Or did you go with the old school approach of drawing the outline and colouring it in?

A bit of both. I drew a picture of the banner in pencil to make sure I got the details etc right and filled it in with colour. Once I had the colours right I made a thin black line around the contours to make the boundries stand out better. A bit of highlighting for the genestealer head and whatnot and it's done!
