hey guys. i wanted to put this in here to get some proper tau based feedback. i have always loved this forum ( this is a new username) and wanted to see how the boys and girls over here felt i could advance my tauy goodness .

firstly i just have to say the colour scheme was taels and i stole it... but i did ask nicely however i have taken a lot of steps allon my own.. ium particularly proud of my kroot. which have required a lot of learning in casting etc.. soo here are some pics..

Can we see those rail guns at a few more angles? They look like a nice conversion. I would love to see more of them and maybe a mention as to the process and parts.

for the mac cannons. you will need

1)some styrene trip OR just styrene sheeting bit it needs to be cut into 1cm strip.
i made mine 27mm but the length is up to your really.. remember to keep in mind the tubing needs to be as long.

2) 2 cotton buds ( i think the americans out there call them Q-tips) basically those things your not supposed to clean your ears with

3)STAPLES the secret ingredient get a decent set of needle nose pliers itll take some trial and error, but lets face it you can afford to waste a few right.

4) those 3 circles off the back of a missile pod

5) a fusion blaster and a flamer you don't need any more.

6)Glue super and plastic.

7) either metal wire from a relatively large paperclip... ooor and this is what i used (gives a nice texture) the low E string (the fat one) from an electric guitar (this stuff is pretty cheap and a fantastic tool for converting stuff, id recommend getting some).

so to start with i would cut up the weapons. i made a diagram of how you want to cut up the fusion blaster, i think it explains it all quite well. and for the flamer you just need the fuel tank of the top. make sure to keep the attaching part of it on. cut closest to the flamer body and away from the fuel tank, you need it to give you some space between the Fusion blaster bit and the flamer tank.



Then cut the cotton parts off the cotton buds and measure and cut the length you need (don't worry about the ends being exact, the staples cover over the ends).

next glue the fuel tank off the flamer to the back end of the FB.

the next bit is tricky. i used plastic glue to stick the 2 bits of plastic rod to the body of the fusion blaster. making them stay in a straight line is a pain. but it is possible, once dry then repeat for the middle part of the FB, make sure you turn it the other way round so that the 2 grooves are at the end closest to the plastic rods.

let that lot dry then get your plastic strip and stick it so that it butts up against the plastic attaching points originally designed to let it slot into the crisis suits arms all along the length of the gun forwards of them.

next grab the metal wire (paperclip) or the much better guitar string and slot it between the plastic sheet and the plastic rod. then just put some superglue on at either end. do that both sides.

again let that dry and grab your trusty staples.
i used 2 lots. one was a group of staples 5 5 and the other was 7 wide. leave them all stuck together like they are when you get them. just break off a chunk of about 3 more than you need (some might break free. grab them with your needle nose pliers and bend them 90* about a CM appart. they will form a square. then simply get your clippers and cut the excess of. then superglue them to the gun.

next grab the metal wire (paperclip) or the much better guitar string and slot it between the plastic sheet and the plastic rod. then just put some superglue on at either end. do that both sides.

almost done now. get the back of the missile pod and glue that onto the side. took some of the spare staples i had left and ubent them into thape to make a connected between the 2 furthest circles. and to make a barrel i used a cross sectional cut off the end of the plastic rod

thats basically it. ill post pictures of it painted once its done.

ok More updates.

spent a lot of today painting. got the camo on pirhana 1 done and the camo on my first tank done.





And i did the lighting effect on the visor, as well as things like the lights on the torso


and finally in other news. homebrew paint rack completed i got 1 more set to make for now. might make more, not sure yet.

Just wanted to say fab, think the camo is nice and fresh.

Looking really fresh. I particularly like the kroot, they have always been affiliated with predators so its nice to see it in the flesh.

I was wondering, are you going to play competitively with this army? If so, what kinds of tactics and (other) units will you be using?

I'd like to play them in tournaments. I just think that at the moment the tau just aren't competitive. I 6th ed might help, please and the rumours of the new tau codex will force some changes on me. I that's part of why in going slowly. I'm secretly hoping the new codex will catch up to me. I have always been a mech tau player and have no wish to change Lol.

This cadre is shaping up to look really lovely... You're doing Tael's scheme a favour.

With regards to Tau in 6th, you might be surprised with regards to some stuff, but will be sorely disappointed with others.

Wow, this cadre looks great! You have done the camo effect really well. I too took inspiration from Tael's work. So seeing your thread brings back good memories!

also i looked at your nids forum. i have 2 battleforces i need to build paint and hopefully sell off. im stealing your idea too that kids nid is fantastic. as for the carapace. im probably going to use vallejo colours.

if you want to make a wash for the carapace try mixing up some paints. id suggest scorched brown and black 50/50 mix. then watering it down so your looking at a wash like fluid (add some washing up liquid or flow improver if you have it) then literally PAINT it into the areas you want to shade.. or you can sue it as a wash. try it on a test mini first. just paint a model you don't need or some spare carapace and trial it out to see how it goes. i like that mix as a brown wash myself

heres some pics of the force all together and the new squad almost done. i worked really hard on the poses to give them a more natural feel. what do you think? better or worse?

I like the new poses- The helmet-less Firewarrior and the kneeling guy against the wall are my two favourites.

It can be quite tricky finding new poses, I spent an age blu-tacking my two 6-man squads and still ended up with very similar stances!

What terrific work. I really like the way Tael's scheme looks on the vehicles. What are you going to do with the light grey parts of the Piranha? Right now, they just blend in with the rest of it rather than picking out the sharp detail work you've done. I can't wait to see it when it's finished, although I sure wouldn't like to see it behind one of my tanks.

@Black: thanks yeh i had to hack them apart quite a bit. there is quite a bit of greenstuff work on them. the running guy had both legs amputated and reset lol the squad leaders had a little GS and the guy peeking round the corner just had chunks shaved off his arms etc to make the pose work. its really worth it though. although im dreading the tau release in case i have to then make another 50 FWs to match

@ Jman: lol yeh you picked up on a faux pas (that is how you spell it right?) on my part there, on the tank i washed the gark grey and then painted the light on top. but i kinda forgot on the little guy. im still undecided on how to go about fixing it. ill just wash it and clean up later.

i have started buyilding squad 2. im not so sure about these guy although in an homage to battlefield 3 i have posed up 1 guy to look like the soldier on the BF3 cover was thingking maybe squad 2 could be setting an ambush?
