This is a combo of my old design and his use of the smaller oval. I cast molded a oval with 12 washer discs embedded in the front arc. I then re-drilled and mounted the old tower/rod. The combined weight and off weight worked like a charm!

Here is it flying next to its Space Hulk raiding force.
Image

Dam you overwhelming desire to build bases on this new weighted theory!
Orca is now "Hover" and flight stand enabled.
Image
And deploying troops onto my table...
Image

Notes:
- Yes, it is oddly forward that you see the mounts for the flight stand. That is because the Orca is a BIG girl and carries all her weight in the front!
- Might have used Steel rods over Aluminum. Time will tell...
- Space for the drill points was lined up under the middle of the chairs. This gave me roughly .5 - 1 CM of drill space for the rods-seat.
- Base has 16 metal washers for weight in a I formation. Space was left at the "optimal" drill areas.
- Salt as a mold modifier did not go as envisioned. It looks like liquid plastic is mildly solvent with Salt?!? It did offer a mild surface "roughness" as intended.
- Drilling an Orca makes your soul bleed and until finished and working the sense of self loathing would not go away...
- Once in the air, Happy Tau Commander!

I'm glad to have been an inspiration Vay. Have you found it to be much easier to play with these models now they are on a more manageable base size?

O my (Something creative and witty) yes!

"Helga" my loving wide hipped Orca can not go to the dance party down town with the Khornites because the roads are too narrow. Thanks to the new slimmer base she can party like a rock star with her 57 closest friends.

Ain't no Party like an Orca party, cause an Orca parties got pulse rounds!
(I will post some actual combat footage... Here is some old combat footage...) (Pre base: No where to park)

She had to "shimmy" her way in there. It was the only landing spot near the target.

Also very notable on the AX1-0. I am on the drawing board for how to mount the Tigershark. Probably goal pole style as well.

So when a guy needs 1 more Kroot hound, what should he do?
1) Buy one
2) Breed one
3) Make one out of parts... and pair him with a Cron eating Kroot with a cybernetic addiction! And yes, that is a Necron hip bone mace.
Image

What should the Kroot hound live in?
If you said Macro Cannon, then you are correct!

And Defenses on Taros...

Beautifully done as always, Vay.

Unfortunately, the link to the first picture appears to be broken... or at the very least, it does not appear for me. :-( :::(

Lookin' good!

What piece did you use to give the Neaderthal-esque brow to the Kroot? I'm actually guessing it is being used as a helmet of sorts, but from a distance, it has that sort of feel to me. The 'cron hip-turned-club helps that along tremendously. :D

It is a diagonal cut skull fragment of a Necron skull. Spine replacement, 1 leg, 1 arm to the wrist, some shoulder plate implants, and a stub nosed Kroot rifle. I will tag some paint on him so he look more definable.

I imagine he digested enough living metal to get visions of how to add more to his body. He then took a Orkish approach to body augmenting.

Operation Bertha is a go. (Manta inbound)
Looking for links, ideas, photos, or proven methods of Manta mounting before I hit the drawing board. I have seen and studied blue table's mount (I think it is too fat). I am looking for a trim design, like what was talked about in the "Flight stand?" post.
- 3 peg seems the most likely (maybe even 3 base)
- Max height? recommended height?
- Steel vs Alluminum
- Rod thickness
- X - Factor in design? Left field ideas? (Like the Orca side sling, witch craft)

Mmmmmmmm Manta...

I have tried to go with steel rods on 3 points.
2 in the back, where the wings meet as the bulk of the weight is there.
One in the front. The big resin block that connects the cockpit with the main hull.

I used 8 mm steel rods and the front was slowly giving in.
Using more than a single rod just might impede usability of the model since you would have 4 large bases to move around.
In the end, I ended up with a plexiglass mount.

The plexiglas is glued together with "Loctite" should be a bit stronger then a regular superglue and I have had no issues at all.

For reference:

More angles in my project log if you need to see a different angle.

Best of luck!

Inspired, reading your work now.

"cheers" to "Semblance of Liberty"

Do you have pictures of how the loading bay functions?

Dropping the hanger bay with the internal hinges you mean?
Well, it's a 2 man job basically.

You have to lift the manta by the wings and then pull the top back. If the bay is held in place, that will make it slide down and you have easy access to the goodies.
The weight of that monstrocity makes it hard though.

I don't have pictures. If you see the early pictures when I cleaned it, you can view where the hinges are.
That should give you an idea of the hinge mechanisme.

I don't know... the did give me two left legs with my R'Myr and were missing some legs and the front claws from my wife's tombstalker... Their QA doesn't seem to be very attentive. But 50+ parts is a bit suspicious. I hope forge world can resolve it for you, I've found their costumer to be slow but extremely helpful.

- The Imperial Knight in the PIC was a real joy to build. Very very cool model.
- Manta was short about 50+ items. FW, I hope your CS is still as helpful as before.

FW thinks they left a box out and are working with me to get the missing parts.

- Started working on the big items. Cutting, shaving, trimming, and thinking if I should saw some of the parts cause clipping might leave a deep spot.
- All parts are slippery with mold sauce. Need to give the whole thing a bath after prepping.
- 4 tanks, 8 XV8's, and 12 drones are kinda funny to look at while building the manta. They scream build me...
- READ every thing you can about Manta building. I am going to pre-paint the gunners and some of the other block off points while I wait for my parts from FW.
? How long will this take? I can not even ball park guess.

From what I've heard from stories on the web it can take anywhere between 2-6 months depending on your schedule and the headache of making sure things fit together.
