Found a lot of time over the weekend to get to work on more guardsman; well not rank and file soldiers, but infantry miniatures none the less.

If you can look closely at the 'ablative wound' gentleman standing beside each big gun, you'll notice I tried to mod each lasgun into an AK-47-esque weapon. A bolter clip & an inverted tank lasgun barrel is all you need :)
This guy is also not on the base and has his own 25mm. I've seen people do this before and it seems like an amazingly simple way to track wounds on the team and also allows you to use the 2nd guy on his own if you are ever short guardsman.

And for some heavy support I cut up an interceptor gun from the planetstrike terrain to make myself a cheap hydra.

I may have to add a second one; these just look cool!

Love the scratchbuilt Hydra :D Reminds me of my days playing Battlefeild DC and parking the AA tank on a hill so I could use the quad Flak cannon on people rather than planes.

And love the AK stlye Lasguns.

Now with the dead grass basing your Guards look amazing, the uniform fits very well into this kind of terrain.
And no I can't see the AK-47 - close-ups?! ;)

The hydra is sweet aswell, what is the pieces you used for the turret? I can only recognise the platform of the planetstrike gun-eplacement... sidepanels is from CoD?

Whitefire: I'm pretty sure the Hydra will get used more to shoot at infantry in 40k too :)

minamoto: Oops I forgot to take more pictures! Next time I update the IG I will make sure to take a picture of each of the weapons mods I did. I may also go back and add grass to my Orks as they are done with the same rocks so it should add a nice touch to them - I just need the motivation to add grass to 150 models. As for the hydra, it uses the interceptor autocannon guns from the planetstrike barricades almost exclusively. I built a base for the gun and put some plastic tubing on it so it merges with the vehicle hull and then added a chimera pilot to the top after extending the gun barrels to earn the 72" range.

I've also updated Post #1 of this thread to include new pictures of my entire Space Marine Army. You can really see how my painting has improved since painting those if I do say so myself :).

I bought some Ogre Kingdom Bulls online for a really good price and made an attempt at converting something suitable for an ogryn. Now I'm not a green stuff master so I couldn't attempt shirts and such like I'd seen on a few cool models before, but I tried to give them enough of a look so that they would appear to just be near mutant humans fighting along with the army. The only thing I'm not happy with is the large stomach armour plating but I think I will get over it once it is painted up to match the rest of the troops.

As an aside, I picked up a Realm of Battle Gameboard for $90 so that is in my garage with a base coat on it. I used that as a first attempt with Krylon Ultra Flat Black Camo spraypaint and it works GREAT. For a cheap can of walmart paint it coats well and didn't snow up. I also purchased their tan shade from the same line and primed half of my IG tanks to help with the basecoat. I'd been using Armoury spray before, but Krylon is so widely sold it is a much better product to recommend and come by.

So tomorrow morning when the GS sets, I think I'll prime these and get to work. I'm eager to have them painted up. I have a Vet squad in the garage that I just matte sprayed so I'll get some images when that is done as well.

This army is coming along nicely! I really like the color scheme since it can fit in most battlefield environments.

The Ogryn count as look great, even though I'm not a fan of the Ogre models. I like the addition of Mohawks! I'm sure they will look great once painted.

Thanks for the compliments! I must say, these were some of the most fun to paint models I've done in a while; as should be evident by the quick turn around time on them.

I realize they're probably HORRID in game as I can't think of much that wouldn't shrug off a charge from these guys (300 and some odd points for 6 and a chimera) but they'll be interesting and I'm sure will find a niche in friendly games.

They don't look too out of place and I'm quite happy with how they turned out. The bone 'ead's pointer finger was greenstuffed and it looks nice and wrinkly and fits. I also tried my hand at using a sharpy to give them some Imperial Aquila tatoos on their shoulders. Regardless of artistic ability, I must suggest this to anyone wanting to do some freehand. It is MUCH easier than using a brush.

Sadly this picture doesn't show the whole 'using the gun as a club' bit that three of them are doing. Two of the autocannons had some mold issues (low pocket) so I painted those to look like someone had been smashed with it.

I also took some photos of the last batch of guardsman vets. This time I added a few darker skinned members to add variety. I think I'll try to keep a good mix of flesh tones throughout the army to make it appear a bit more natural.

Comments welcome.

Those Ogryns look great a very cool conversion and I too like the Veteran Squad.

This is very inspiring to me, I hope my Chimera-kit arrives soon.

My son bought these for fantasy Warhammer, which I don't play, so it's great to see them incorporated in the 40K universe.

I think they look great. Especially the skin tones look just right.
