Hi Theambit,
I think you've done a great job with this daemon, It has (to me ) a really greasy/spat out of the aether look that I think works really well for it.
2 questions:
Are you treating the all metallic portions of the armour the same? I can see where this gives it a Tzeentchian feel without necessarily committing to that aesthetic.
And, what did you use to flock those white-ish portions of the base? It seems very appropriate to use that particular colour as it resembles some sort of rapidly grown fungus to me.
Looking forward to prince no. 2, I may just have to go out and buy one now...

modelglue don't blame me when your wallet is a bit lighter . the flock is Woodland Scenics Static Grass Flock "Wild Honey". I've been using that on all of my models for the last year and my game board and still have tons left. The gold trim is tin bitz covered with shining gold, mithril drybrush and a few washes of gryphonne sepia. The sword is boltgun, mithril drybrush, 2 layers badab black wash, 2 gryphonne and 1 devlan mud. The inside of the blade is watered down blood red. I hope that helps. I also brushed a bit of mig pigment on the sword for a brown/red hue. I wanted the stuff to look old and rusty yet vibrant. I'm hoping that worked with my basic approach.

Well thanks for the instructional run down and technique summary. I resisted running out to get one today, and I came within sight of the mall on a trip to buy pet food. Lucky for my wallet it was before the GW in town was open and my lovely g/f was with me. So really there was no chance of a purchase. How far along are you on No. 2? I'm really itching to get one, but i'm told we have silly things like a pantry and proper window treatments to buy. I'll live vicariously through you for now. modelglue

Modelglue, I'm this far! I think it's done minus a small touchup on that left shoulderpad where the gold ran over. I took the same base model of course but I wanted him to have a giant weapon and hated the stupid middle finger that he was giving (with both hands!). So I cut off a significant portion of his middle fingers (I'm not a puritan; but the model just looked dumb). I cut all of the fingers off of the right hand and reattached and green stuffed them to hold the axe. I also wanted him to look suitably magic so he's holding a ball of energy. I'm going to do something similar on the oblits. On second thought the middle fingers are still huge; I did trim them, they're just so big. My obliterator parts mailed so I should be able to start on those - or my Dystopian ships whichever comes first.

Here's a sneak peak of the oblits (Tzeentch Sorcerers) I'm working on (parts came in today). I have to make some sort of small magical flame or something in his hand. I don't really think the helmets work in the dread though. They're narrower than a marine helmet but the same height. Maybe that idea will now go out the window and it'll be back to the drawing board on what army to make these 3 dreads part of. As for the daemon princes, in a very fluff based army, my friend and I (chaos) fought two marine players using 3 daemon princes. Yeah ok so not fluffy at all but at least only 1 of them was lash! We mopped up with them. It was fun to use my first MC ever (Strakken doesn't count).

I spent the last week finishing up my land speeders. I'd primed and basecoated these months ago but never had the motivation to start them. Once the paint started to fly though I couldn't stop. I love these little guys. I've got the tech marine piloting one as my fluff dictates and the shoulder markings show the company they're attached to. This will also be useful if I want to have a squad of 2. I'm going to do the rest of the bikers in the same style and will probably go with blue or yellow on the majority of them. I have 3 squads to do (and a captain) and was thinking of making two squads one colour (1 company) and a 3rd squad another. Maybe matching 1 of the speeders though I am not sure. I'm going to have to redo the fluff to maybe include 5 speeders per company. The weapons are all magnetized so that I can swap out autocannons or whatever at a later date though I like this pattern the best at the moment. Adding dirt was pretty easy with an airbrush. One spray of scortched brown and another of I think bubonic and done. I really liked the blue jet exhaust I put on my Mephiston so I copied it here. They're very fast ground cars

Hey TheAmbit! Everything is looking nice, especially Daemon Prince #2. Those quads are pretty convincing, I like the techmarine driver, provides a nice contrast. They have "Mad Max" attitude. Thumbs up to that! Also, the way you've hollowed out the barrel on the Heavy Bolter adds realism, bolstered by the weathering and stowage. As you may already know: I'm not a big fan of weathering, but these are subtle enough to get by my radar. Will you be filling the center hole (hub) of the real wheels with anything? A small shallow hex nut would be my vote. modelglue

I am in complete agreement with Modelglue - the land speeders are fantastic. You've done an excellent job combining the assault bikes and the land speeder. One would never really know that they are two completely different kits.
But then again, when its your work, there is little else to expect but excellence.

modelglue I really like the 2nd prince too compared to the first. Just a better model I think (more armour contrast). Yeah it's not normal fluff to have techmarines driving around in speeders but I am pushing for more contrast in my armies lately and when I play I have 1-3 different chapters on the table which really just looks better. It's all done by me of course so the painting style and basing ties them together well enough. I always liked that about my tau since you could have Tau, Kroot, Vespid and other auxiliaries to add colour. Drilling out the barrel of a gun is the easiest and #1 thing all modellers should learn after they remove flashing. It's just too easy to skip! I didn't think of the hole as a flaw (never really looked at it!) until you mentioned it. Now it bothers me a lot. I now have some covers drying on my desk that I'll add later. Thanks Ar'ka - If you say so! (though I think you're being a tad too nice ) I've been inspired so much by the great modellers here so I always want to give back. It may not be tau stuff but the ideas can always catch and hopefully transend armies. Edit: I just had an awesome (ok self proclaimed) idea. . . I may have to make a land speeder storm version of this. Can you say 40k van?

You should make it into a Mystery Machine and model the occupants after the Scooby Gang

Mmm, I think you should shoot for more of a utility Humvee look or maybe you can pull off an LAV-25 with given components from the storm variant box? 8X8 action would look sweet. I digress now, you don't want MY help spending money on GW kits. modelglue

I second the vote for the van... that'll give you an excuse to field the A-team and/or the scooby gang.

The dread's legs look a little bow legged though, have you thought of fully repositioning them to see if it would look a bit better?

After seeing those I think I would have cut into the back section and put the missiles up on a turret kinda like a halo warthog.

Terminatorinhell They're relaxed and standing shoulder width apart The legs actually just go straight down from the stock ones. I wanted to reposition them to be standing on rubble or something but after looking at some pictures of other's it looked like I needed guitar wire, greenstuff and lots of cutting. I didn't feel I could do it justice. Now that they're primed, painted and sealed they're eternally entombed in their bull legged sarcophagae. wartang If you look at the very first image I posted (page 1) of them you can see where I tried that. It looked weird so I opted for the more compact version. I guess to each his own but it just looked like big goofy ears to me.

Wow, I really like those vehicles. The biker kits fit pretty seamlessly! Oh and I too agree that a 40K bus would be great! When it comes to Dreadnoughts, I've always thought that they looked cool, but something about the legs always bothered me. I think it's the fact that it's hard to look good if you're waddling. The absolute best "true-scale" dread I have ever seen was made by Apologist for his Pre-Heresey Ultramarines. He extended the the thighs and made the whole thing look very natural.

Those Land-Jeeps look just like they are meant to look like that. The idea of an A-Team Van is awesome.

I present to you, the Argonaught Pattern Land Speeder Storm. I've always liked scouts, and always thought the storm was a cool model. I sold all of my old ones when I started playing with the BA codex. Now though, with the Night Hawks and my goal and background fluff supporting high speed combat I figured they could make a comeback. I also would like the flexibility to not take a SM bike captain and instead have a librarian. That is I wouldn't depend so much or have to protect the bikes as much since the storms would be scoring. I really like the look of the normal scouts with bolters and have modelled the guys as such. Because of that I made the storm with occupants readying bolt guns. Again, I really like the model and despite the tactical disavantages that most people are sure of, a friend of mine does really well with them and I'd much rather take them than tactical marines. I need to aquire a few more front parts of bikes for making the wheel wells on the front of both speeds but hopefully can move along with these before long. I can't wait to play these. I tried to mimic the lines of my original speeders which included moving the cerebrus? launcher to the top of the vehicle. Argonaught Pattern Land Speeder StormScouts of the Night Hawks 9th company are not born in the saddle; they must first earn the right to take to battle on their own bike. Those proving themselves in the blood of combat move up the ranks to either piloting a Storm or being granted a scout bike while remaining in the 9th. For all of the reasons that the Argonaught Pattern Land Speeder has become a staple in the chapter, so has the Argonaught Storm. The Argonaught Storm sports increased engine capacity vs. the standard Argonaught to aid in pushing its larger chassis up to similar speeds. The vehicle is capable of carrying novitiates into battle as well as wounded brother-soldiers from it. Tow lines can be extended from the roof of the crew compartment which safely trail behind the vehicle for use in towing damaged equipment back from the front when required. The heavy reliance on Argonaughts and bikes by the Night Hawks means no forfieited lightly. The plume of dust left in the wake of the tri-thrusters pay homage to the coming storm and the namesake of the vehicle.

If I may suggest one thing - I think the Marine hanging out the side could use a running board. Feet are dangling a bit close to the ground, and even a Marine can use a little extra support for stability while shooting.
Looks pretty hot, though. Are those white wheels Lego pieces?

Aven, I was contemplating the running boards (they actually come with the kit) but once everything is actually mounted (and like you said his feet are so close to the ground) the running boards might look like a bit of a strange addition (since I assume the marine coudl easily hop inside).
Do you think I should just remove the dangling marine and put him inside on a chair?
