Just a conversion I'm working on for a very good friend of mine in return for a buttload of stuff. Most of the conversion work is pretty self-explanatory (except for the fact the Plasma Cannon is magnetized for now, currently awaiting a second fist), I just thought that you guys might like it. I'm particularly proud otf the progress so far, so positive feedback only, please! :P

Great work on the dread, really liking the SW icons you putting on it and the pose is very dynamic. Only thing that bothers me is the head..... don't know why but it doesn't seem to match the rest of the model... maybe not SW enough......something.

Really? I chose it BECAUSE it was a Space Wolves head; it may not be clear in the photos, but the "brow" has a nice piece of raised trim, and there's three "jewels" across the forehead, above said trim.

Maybe it will look different when it's painted but if you ask me, contemptor dreadnoughts are supposed to be very highly valued so I feel that it would have something to really show off that the space wolves have their own. Something like the head being in the shape of a wolf's. I reckon if you could green stuff a wolf head on there, it would look pretty awesome. It still looks great and it has already been mentioned how good the pose is. Keep it up :)

If memory serves me right there are actual space wolf helmets shaped like a wolf's head. That would always be an option. I must agree it looks good, but the head just doesn't scream "canine obsessed space vikings in space" like the rest of the icons.

Heh heh! "Positive Feedback Only", eh? "Constructive Criticism" is also hopefully always given with positive intentions, as the onlooker is objective in his opinion whereas the owner may not be quite so objective! :P ;)

Anyway, moving on rapidly......I like the pose of your Contemptor rushing forward, which suits the style of the Space Wolves. Mine is more of the 'plod steadfastly forward while letting rip with the Kheres Pattern Assault Cannon'.

The head you have used.....I'm not completely sold on it, I'm afraid. The one supplied with the model is a fraction larger and could have a wolf's head sculpted onto the faceplate if you have the skill - I don't, but IIRC you do - but for me, using a plastic SW head just isn't *quite* right. Admittedly though I am only seeing the model through the picture on the screen and not the actual model itself, so "in the flesh" might look better.

A couple of ideas I've used on my SW Contemptor in addition to the various SW icons similar to those you've employed: large wolf pelts draped over the shoulders and an icon on the upper casing of the sarcophagus emphasises the Space Wolf background of the guy inside, showing he is a chap of valour (well, he's killed a Thunderwolf and it's draped round his shoulders, so he must be a tough guy!).

A thing I'm considering doing with my own Contemptor is to extend the powerfist fingers with blades to turn them into something more akin to claws, a la Bjorn the Fell-Handed, as I think the fingers of the powerfist provided are a little stubby. Just a small extension would do fine.

Looking forward to seeing how this bad boy of yours proceeds, OH.

E.

It needs a wolf pelt or something big and trophy like. All the symbols are just about right positionally though I'm personally not getting it from the combat knifes, just doesn't "Feel" right being on a Dread seeing as they can't use them.

The posture of it gives a good "dynamic" look and I love the close combat arm that available on the Contemptor. I look forward to seeing some more of your project. :)

Thanks for the feedback guys!

-The lack of pelts:

I'm simply holding back on pelts and such right now until I can find proper ones I cna carve off of the Space Wolves bits; I may have neglected to mention this, but this is a commission piece for my best friend, Cody, using bits he's supplying me with (and a couple from my personal collection). He also has the Saga of the Black Tally, so the motif for this Contemptor is death. The idea for the flurr behind the larger wolf skulls is that they were his wolves that died when he was entombed, and this way they can carry on as a pack until he finally joins them. Perhaps he even believes that-at least in a spiritual way-the limbs of the contemptor are now extansions of their will (THe combat arm could be Hyjal's Bite,a nd the plasma cannon Fafnir's roar, and such and so forth). Just an idea! :P He'll be getting human skulls and maybe an Ork one or two if I can find any.

-The head choice:

The standard contemptor head looks left and right, that's it. That didn't seem fitting for a Space Wolf Contemptor, whom would be leaning and twisting all kinds of ways at it really gets into a melee. There IS a helmet that's reminiscent of a wolf's head, but it actually looks kinda "bleh" how they executed it, like it took a good whack to the forehead, and the eyes are set to the sides instead of facing forward. Plus, there may be issues with it fitting/moving in the socket.

-The fingers:

I suggested that to Cody, but he hasn't given a yes or no on it yet. We may put Wolf Claw-style blades on the knuckles, but that's yet to be seen.

-The knives:

They're ceremonial knives, and/or ones he used in "famous" kills in his past, relics from his grim tales.

That's fair enough, but it's their positioning that's not right. There's a lot of space on a Contemptor, and it feels like you're trying to fill every last bit.
Sometimes my friend, "less is more".

Alternatively, have a war axe hanging from his hip or something, as the blades really don't do your work justice.

As for wolf pelts, green stuff it matey. There's guides to "how to" on you tube and the like. Failing that you can buy "instant mold" cheaply on eBay, and if you know someone with Logan Grimnar, it'll take seconds to make a mold of his wolf pelt, and hey presto! :)

The other combat arm came in yesterday, so I got it assembled and magnetized, primed the model last night and this morning, and started airbrishing it! oticed a few flaws I had to trim off, those will be corrected when I hit it with the airbrush again later.

Got the greys down, blocked in all the silver areas, and got the initial Devlan Mud wash on! Going to add a watered-down Badab black wash later (focused mostly on the metals), but likely after I do the brass parts. The shoulders and knees will be painted red and washed seperately, as will all the decodations.

Looks superb, mate!

Going to put any more snow over it? Just feels like it needs a bit here and there to show it's been fighting in the snow a while.

I'm liking this a lot! Especially the wolf skulls on the shoulder and knee pads. It provides a nice contrast against the red. It does look better with a bigger head, I must say and my only problem with it (this is just me) is the snow on the base looks like it needs breaking up. Something like footprints or a small boulder jutting out of it would do nicely in my view.
