Privateer Press has posted an in medias res photo of a fight between the Retribution of Scyrah and Khador. Be careful, it's pretty big! A few of my thoughts on the matter:
- We finally get to see what the Dawnguard Sentinel models look like! They're the ones cresting over the hill running the length of the picture. I think they look really sharp, especially the running model.
- I also think that the Sentinels are led by an as-yet unannounced female warcaster - or at least a solo, given that Vryos is front-and-center in the photo. She's on the right half of the picture, standing by the ruined Iosan column, carrying some sort of two-headed axe weapon. From what I can tell, it's a really badass model.
- In action, the myrmidons look pretty neat.

I'm not sold on the new stuff, they are incredibly well sculpted and capture a very strong anime/mecha look. They look great but I'm not a fan of that style in a steam punk game, they look like they belong in monsterpocalypse they look completely sci-fi as opposed to dirty coal burning boilers and steel. :?

Mage hunters are expected to function in extreme circumstances, such as surviving hand-to-mouth deep in enemy territory while isolated from friendly support. At home in any environment, they learn to scavenge and improvise, and to kill without hesitation. Their first priority is always the elimination of enemy arcanists and mechanikal constructs—which they believe harm Scyrah.

Mage Hunter Strike Force comes in a box (PIP 35014). A player may field two Mage Hunter Strike Force units for each warcaster in his Retribution army.

I think it's quite refreshing. The factions in 40k are very different... why do the Warmachine ones have to be clones of each other?
Though I understand why some people think they don't belong. It can be annoying when things like that happen, I know. I guess it might be because of the fact I don't play Warmachine, if I was more into the game I'd probably have more of a problem with it.

Veteran teams led by senior commanders are well versed in advanced Retribution techniques. Slipping past the outer defenses of an enemy base, they fire bolts through intervening walls to kill without a trace. Working alongside other soldiers in the Retribution military, these teams apply similar methods to erase vital targets before they can even join battle.

Mage Hunter Commander comes in a blister (PIP 35015). A player may field one Mage Hunter Commander for each warcaster in his Retribution army.

While Retribution handlers endeavor to train soulless as soldiers, some are destined to serve another function. Energy flows sent to destroy Retribution soldiers are siphoned into the body of the soulless. If they siphon too much it prompts complete organ failure. Heart and lungs burst from hostile energy pouring into the soulless, while leaving those allies around him untouched.

So - it looks like an elf equivalent of The Dude, and a solo that redirects spells to itself. huh

There's also the fact that a longtime nickname for Eiryss was 'the soulless elven hooker' on the PP forums. Mostly because people despised her ability to live up to the title of mage hunter.

And now? Now the Retribution, Eiryss' native faction, has a Soulless (Elven Male) Escort.

I've no doubt that this is both done on purpose and an excellent indicator of the staid & somber demeanor over at PP.

It's also worth noting that Warmachine's sister game, Grind, will be promoted from 'fun little game you can play with your Warmachine figures' up to full fledged board game status.

Full Metal Battle Sport

Bellevue WA. June 30, 2009
—Privateer Press is pleased to announce Grind, an extreme combat sports board game for two players ages 14 and up releasing this October. In Grind players customize a team of steamjacks—10-ton, steam-powered mechanical robots—and battle to move a large, spiked ball into their opponent’s goal. The game comes with several highly detailed plastic components, including six Runner steamjack figures, four Crusher steamjack figures, 32 interchangeable weapon arms, two spiked pillars, and the Grinder ball. Also included are a full-color game board, 11 tokens, and custom dice.

When asked about the design behind Grind, Privateer Press Game Development Manager Erik-Jason Yaple said, “As we were developing Grind we looked at nearly every sport in existence for inspiration. Grind borrows from American and international football, rugby, billiards, hockey, and even stock car racing. The game delivers aggressive, in-your-face action as players slam and bash their steamjacks into each other. At the same time, it rewards careful planning and strategy as players try to get the Grinder across the playing field and into their opponent’s goal while the clock is running down. And thanks to the incredible amount of steamjack customization, players can build the team that suits their play style right out of the box.”

The official Grind webpage will be launched on Friday, July 3rd on http://www.privateerpress.com.

Battle mage magisters manipulate invisible energies to tear an enemy limb from limb or to haul weighty machinery around like pieces on a game board. The massive arcanika gauntlets they wear not only serve as conduits for their powers, but can deliver tremendous crushing blows and send opponents flying.

Nayl is one of the soulless, destined to stand forever apart from his people, an uncomfortable reminder of the doom awaiting Scyrah and all of Ios. At rest Nayl seems empty, yet a blade in his hand moves with a will of its own, expressing echoes of emotions. Nayl’s trainers prepared him from youth to serve as an arcane vortex when he at last perishes, striking against the Retribution’s enemies even as death consumes him.

The new Extreme sculpt is: the Juggernaut.

Twenty-nine pieces, $60, and without question living up to the size of the other Extreme sculpts. Here's a size comparison with the regular Juggernaut, Beast-09, and the Behemoth.

Two new plastic units for Hordes:

Image
Warspears
The blight has twisted the minds as well as the flesh of these ogrun, addicting them to the joy of bloodlust. If their enemies are not killed outright from the impact of their spears, the tremendous lengths of wood dangling from the creatures’ vitals can trip them up long enough for the blighted ogrun to close and finish the job.
Classification: Plastic Unit
PIP Code: 73041
Price: $44.99*
Model Count: 5
Packaging: Box

Image
Fennblades
Trollkin called Fennblades calmly wait shoulder to shoulder—wicked hooked greatswords raised at the ready—listening to the approach of thundering hooves. Some duck lances to sweep blades through the legs of mounts while others swing their blades straight into the chests of the riders. The result is always the same, as Fennblades stand victorious over the bodies of the slain.
Classification: Plastic Unit
PIP Code: 71042
Price: $49.99*
Model Count: 10
Packaging: Box
*Product information and prices subject to change

Both are medium-based units. And if I'm not mistaken, these are the second and third infantry units Privateer's done in plastic. Which makes me wonder just what they're going to do when they're comfortable with the medium.

Beginning to think the size of these miniatures is making up for something in the PP miniature design office...

Lol, not too surprising as warmachine is marketed with the slogan of "play like you got a pair"

As far as the models go they are absolutely amazing and these are also going to be in plastic, which is awesome hotness. I have armies for both everblight and troolbloods so I'm probably going to get sucked back into playing WM & Hordes a lot more often due solely to these new models, curse them! ;)

An odd idea hit me today, I really prefer the PP rules over 40k but the 40k imagry is just too good to make a permanant break with. I was thinking what if I worked up a system using warmachine rules designed around 40k units. Might make for a fun hybrid game.

Cygnar already plays quite simular to Tau with tons of specialized shooting, it it wouldn't take much effort to translate warjacks into crisis suits and dreadnoughts. The focus system and feats would probably be the only difficult thing to translate but I'm sure something could be worked out.

The mech design to the Retribution army reminds me of how the Protoss mount their weapons in Starcraft. Hope they have Energizer. :P

The new plastic jacks upped officially to the PP site.

http://privateerpress.com/warmachine

Jugger chassis got replaced with a 1 down of the extreme sculpt version. The cryx arms look a bit spindly but apart from that pretty good all round. Especially as the price on them is much cheaper :)
