Not really a painting update, but more a battle report (with pics :P)
Yesterday I had to face the Ork horde (again).

army lists in short:
Tau side:
HQ
Shas'el with FB, MP, SG, SI
Bodyguard Shas'vre: MP, PR, SG, FD,...
Elites
Stealths: 1 FB, 2 BC
Troops
2X 12 men FW squad with PR+ DF
12 men FW squad with PC
Fast Attack
Gun drones (8)
Heavy Support
Hammerhead
Image
Image
Image

Ork side (don't know the exact unit names and such):
Big Mek with Invulnerable save bubble + 10 choppa boys + truck
nob squad + truck
normal ork squad + truck
6 bikers
2 deffkoptas
20 shoota boys

He got to deploy first and took the side where the objective stood inside a bunker and cramped the place with his shoota boys.
Image
He deployed his trucks next to each other, ready to ride straight ahead to the other objective. Bikers and koptas were placed in the middle of his DZ.
I deployed my units in a 'refused flank' style. 1 FW Squad in cover with my objective, my 2 DF, with squads deployed, next to each other at the border of the gaming zone and my HH at the far right. My Stealths, HQ and drones would DP/outflank.

Turn 1:
O: he gets first turn and drives everything forward. His trucks go 19" (wtf, didn't know that) but don't disembark. He feared that he wouldn't make it with his assault.

T: I deploy my gun drones from my DF. HH shoots at a truck (railgun misses, smart missile system blows it up), 2FW squads shoot at the orks who got out of the exploded truck. 6 or 7 survive the shooting. 3rd FW squad shoots at a second truck which also explodes.
Gun drones jump in front of my FW to neglect the orks a direct assault.

Turn 2:
O: He moves everything forward and manages to charge and kill 1 FW squad.
Image
He tries to kill my HH in CC but misses (good that I moved him a bit in the previous turn :)) His bikers kill 4 of FW on my objective by shooting at them.

T: I made the decision that it was getting to hot under my feet and used my DF to get my FW out of the danger as good as I could. The HH also moved. Gun Drones DP and kill 3 bikers and a DF kills another one. the GD of my DF manage to wound a koppta. Stealths outflank and try to breach the bunker but only manage to stun it. HH tries to kill the final truck, but fails. (this was a tactical mistake. I should have used the submunition shot at the open orks instead of trying to kill his transport)
Image

Turn 3:
O: Shoota boys move out of the bunker and shoot at my stealths, killing 1. Big Mekk kills my HH in CC. Bikers kill a GD. A Nob destroys my DF and the troops fall out.
Image

T: HQ DP and kills the final truck. GD kill another biker. FW squad manages to wound the second deffkopta, while my DF's GD kill the other.

Turn 4:
O: Biker nob kills my last DF, Nob unit charges my HQ and kills the bodyguard, my 'el flees away. The normal choppa squad charges THROUGH my destroyed DF the FW (I thought that a wreck was impassable terrain :-? ) and kills them. Shoota boys kill my stealths
Image
Image

T: Knowing I couldn't win this game anymore I decided to make ' a last stand' :D I placed my last FW in a nice line and shot at the Nob squad wounding 4 of them. Then I moved my GD a bit into position.
Image

Turn 5:
O: Shoota's move back to their objective. Nobz eat my FW.

T: Gun drones move and assault the choppa boyz in the hope they won't break so I could at least contest the objective, but alas, it could not be. They got destroyed.

CONCLUSION: Orks own both objectives and have still a 30 - 40 orks standing, while only 2 GD are still standing from the tau side.

NOTES:
1) Trucks have weak armour, but are fast. They can deliver troops in combat from turn 1.
2) Make sure what weapon your gonna use for which job.
3) Even if your losing, try to have fun. I for instance liked it to put my FW in a line and give the orks hell (or at least a bit).
4) Me needs more firepower :fear:

I'm not familiar with the Orky Codex, so correct me if I'm wrong, but if a vehicle moves, the disembarking unit may not assault that turn.

You can assault out of any open topped vehicle that moved 12" or less.

The trucks are open-topped vehicles and because of this the transported unit is capable of assaulting even if the vehicle moved.
Though I haven't read about the limitation that the vehicle shouldn't have driven further than 12" in the BRB.

It has been a long time since I updated this thread, but what is there to update if there aren't no new models painted :)
Anyway, my schoolwork today could kiss my behind and I started glueing my Kroot together and started working on a colourscheme. This is what I have so far. It's still WIP!

I'm also working on a green Kroot and I will probably use both schemes in my army. The green ones will be the 'new, inexperienced' Kroot and the reddies will be the 'veterans' who have seen many battles and have eaten many enemies. The person who guesses what the breakfast was of the reddy will get a cookie :D

oh, wow. I once played an apocalypse game where there was an objective in the center inside a building. 40 guardsmen were camped inside, while 2 baneblades, a shadowsword, and a vanquisher guarded the building in a similar manner to your traffic jam picture.

Here's my first finished Kroot:

I won't be making any green Kroot, although I said it in my previous post. I made some but I didn't like the scheme, so I'll be sticking with red :)

UPDATE:
games: summer campaign at local store: turn 1: unexpected planet strike with killpoints. Managed to get a draw, but this counts as a win for the campaign = first planet captured!

WIP:
All painting is on hold (FW squad, DF, Kroot), continuing with glueing:

1) Trying to salvage a fallen XV88 battlesuit. This one was from my brother, but he totatally screwed it up, so a couple of years ago I decided to make it a terrain piece/objective. Now I'm trying to repair it and make it game-ready.

Image

2) Building a XV8 with interchangeable weaponry (aka magnetised weapons)

Image

3) Building a new XV89 commander, also with magnetised weapons

@ Agentarrow: The putty will indeed be removed. :)

@ blood&iron: the terrain is consists of the Manufactourm, Basilica Administratum, Sanctum Imperialis, scenery of BfM and some random buildings and bunkers that the local gamers made.

Thanks for the nice replies! :D
I'm glad I've inspired some people and that you like my suit.
I'm going to try the gloweffect on my XV89 next.
I hope the effect will be even better than on the XV8 as it was my first try with gloweffect.
Pics of the XV89 should be online next Tuesday, if my schedule is correct.

The weapons of the XV8 are ready.
I haven't had time yet to properly begin with the XV89 and since I'll have a job from tomorrow, I'll won't have the time to paint it soon.
Have patience, my dear friends :P

I was asking about the terrain in the first set of pics with your army set up.

I really like that 4 story building.

Thanks,
