Hello all, I finally got my order from Games Workshop, im so excited. :D
It isn't much but it will help me set up a few decent battles with a few friends of mine. A battle force, 4x pathfinders, 2x firewarriors, 1x Piranha, and i am waiting for a XV89 from forgeworld as my commander.
I browsed the forum's gallery section and saw some great scheme ideas, but i ended up in a bone/blue black scheme with red sept markings (Vior'la). I havent picked up a brush in a long time so my painting is kind of rusted, read some techniques here and there, learned some new ones - and here is a tiny resault of what i came up with my scheme.

I know that Tau - fluff wise - get dressed according to what kind of environment they are going to fight, a well camouflaged set up. So the blue is kind off the camouflage.
For the first time i tried the feathering technique in my mini painting, so what i used was:

Blue areas :
Regal blue base coat
Regal blue 50% - Hawk Tirquaz 50%
Asurmen Blue
Hawk Tirquaz 100%, 1 drop paint / 6 drops Thinner

Bone areas :
Snakebite leather base coat
Snake bite leather 50% - Bleached bone 50%
Snakebite leather 25% - Bleached bone 75%
Bleached bone 100%, 1 drop paint / 6 drops Thinner

I was trying to "glaze" it but ended up feathering. Someone told me that glazing needs more shades and more color tones and that what i did was feathering! :-?

What you guys think, don't hesitate and tell me what you really believe for the scheme and how i could further improve it.

As far as the list goes, i will post my 1st battle report in a few weeks!

Thanks in advance.

I Like what you ended up with! The color two-tone effect within the tan and within the blue looks very nice, and easily shows the edges of each panel. In addition the two colors compliment each other well and work heraldrically. You can easily simply have your cadre in ceremonial armor (which doesn't worry about camo), or perhaps it is a more marine/maritime cadre that works in a water world sort of environment? That would be lots of blues and possibly a tan for sand?

Either way, good work!

Marine/Maritime cadre... wow i like the idea of that. :D
They run happily on beaches, surfing etc :P . Hehe since i live close to a beach. Nice nice, thanks a lot, you boosted my morale!
You even gave me an idea for my basing with only 2 words! I was stuck on deserts, jungles and city fighting!

Thanks again!

Thats what I did when I saw those drones. I really wish I had that kind of skill. As it is my drones are only half-way decent. (Well, when compared with yours)

I really like where this is going and can't wait to see whats next.

Awesome job with the colors, you hit the nail on the head. I tend to gravitate towards more military color sets, but this is just awesome. I look forward to seeing other units in this scheme.

That stealthsuit is immaculate. Bravo, good sir.

It just hit me that your color scheme reminds me of hailstop's Egyptian-themed Chaos army. I love this color combination, and would definitely steal it if I weren't already so committed to my arctic theme.

Just have to say I love the blending on your Stealth Suit's camo waves as the electric highlights itself from the natural blue of the suit. The Pathfinders are excellent also with the thin layer of glossy coat to bring out details. Keep it up hope to see more from you.

georap, I love what you've done with your XV25s mate. Do you mind if I borrow the effect for my XV25s?

It won't be exactly like yours - my bases will be urban-like (gravel etc).

To counterract the thickness of the water effect on the bases I'd dirty them a little by putting like a vomit brown on the feet for a mud effect as even when coming onto a beach from water you normally kick up dirt. But then I shouldn't complain about clean miniatures. My Catachans are gruff and dirtied up where my Tau are clean at the moment.

If all else fails could do a highlight of some sort on the water's top. The bases still look kicking butts and taking names compared to mine. :(

Wow. Great job at the painting, you did an awesome job and it shows. :)
If you include kroot, will they have marine-adapted features?
