Don't know how I missed this!

Great work and scheme- very neat (which always gets a bonus 10 pts from me! :P )

Can we get a close up of the toe- how did you weather it?

cheers

Thanks SpartanTau!

I've been slowly making progress on my test battlesuit, working for 15-20 minutes each night before heading off to bed as I've been busy lately. I stumbled upon some very high resolution pictures of the exosuit from "District 9" and began wondering if I should try a dark navy blue color scheme instead of the light grey. I have an extra test Fire Warrior already primed so I might try it out this weekend.

I will try to get new pics up this weekend, but the quick answer is that I used watered down Citadel Badab Black ink and just layered it on in the areas you'd expect to see weathering and chipping on the toe. I then took some thinned down VGC Black paint and hit just a few areas to deepen the black to a level I couldn't easily get with the ink. Finally I used VGC Gunmetal (GW Boltgun Metal) to add the paint chips.

I'm still experimenting with this method, though, so once I get it somewhat nailed down I'll post a more comprehensive tutorial. I was also looking at using some weathering pigments I have to add dust to the models, as well as using the Citadel Devlan Mud to create some rust/oil streaks.

That's a cool image, thanks for sharing!

I think your suits will look a lot different once you add the weathering and especially the Sept markings. I always feel that Sept markings can make a good suit look great if done properly.

(Oh and while this is entirley up to you, what of you altered the name of this log to something like: "brotherjason's Tau Log" or something to that effect. It's kind of generic right now and hard to tell it's your with all the Tau logs popping up. Like I said, just a thought.)

Great minds think alike! I was just thinking myself of changing the title of the thread! :P

Yeah, my main problem is what color to make the sept markings. In my color scheme I used a sort of orange/ocher color but on the model it seems out of place. I tried a golden yellow as opposed to a canary yellow but it too seems out of place. I messed around with white on the missile pod last night but white sept markings seems too monochromatic on an already very subdued color scheme.

I adore the GW Orange Foundation paint and it's what I use for my Sept stripes. As for the strips looking a little out of place, look at the picture you posted if the D9 suit. It has orange marking that form more of a color scheme pattern as opposed to just random colors here and there.

But when you look at official Tau suits, the Sept markings are pretty bold. Fluffwise, Sept markings gave their origins with the war paint the ancient Tau would use. Now it can represent squad markings and the like, but don't be afriad to go wild with them!

I like how your sept marking came out in the orange, I may have to "borrow" that for mine... ;)
