Instead of creating a new thread, I'll just necro this and turn it to a project log. So this is where all the unfinished, finished, blotchy preliminary paint jobs and greenstuff-filled frankensteins will be for now. Now that the Tau are up for a rather probable update in the first Q of the upcoming year, I'm picking up this project again and keep you guys updated a bit more than previously. Once again I have to apologise for the lack of quality concerning the photos, but the new iPhone really isn't the best of cameras out there for this - sadly it's the only one I've got. So, first off, some XV-8 'Fireknife' conversions. Got three teams of these, but here is the one most ready at the moment. Not even nearly fully painted, but ready enough for you to get the gist of what I'm after here. And the other half of my XV-88 'Broadside' conversions (sorry about the black primer hiding a fair bit of the conversion work detail, but it should be visible enough to get the idea) Comments, criticism, new ideas and general blabber are all more than welcome. [OLD POST] [/OLD POST]

I'm loving the way you've done the blue, I can't wait to see what your tanks look like.

That is one nice crisis suit! I wish I could paint like that.

Thanks guys, glad you like 'em. The scheme is of course not one of the quickest out there to paint, so it'll take some time from me to finish the army, but I'm getting there. The next thing I'm painting will be a Hammerhead.

Do you have anything else painted that you could post pictures of?

We will eagerly await photos of that hammerhead. The scheme for the Crisis Suit is quite nice, Though the colors aren't really camo, the patterns work well as camo. Overall, very striking and well painted mini. Keep up the good work!

Great job! I don't compliment people much, either boring or overdone paint jobs(and you know what they say, if you cant say something nice, say nothing), yours is just right without being busy. Look forward to seeing the rest of the cadre. How are you doing the troops?

T'Owel: Sadly no, since I have just recently begun the whole project. I have about 95% of the army assembled, primed and basecoated, though. Plus I have to take some of it apart again to magnetize it properly.
Agentarrow: Thanks for the comment. I do have to admit that the colours are not totally picked with spot-on effective camo in mind, but there was (& still is) an idea to fix the bases to represent a glacier/tundra waterfront -styled terrain. As camos usually go in anything that can be airborne (like a deepstriking Crisis suit) or otherwise just towering around, the top side is a broken pattern to disguise the suit when looked at from above; and light, cloud coloured from the bottom to blend it in with the sky when looked at from beneath. I tried to go for a bit aquatic feeling, but I think I slightly fuxx0red up the blue towards one too striking.
Fokke: I'm glad the mini could squeeze out a comment from you. : ) I'm planning on maintaining much of the general idea of the suit's camo-pattern when it comes to the troops. Every Fire Warrior will have a slightly differently broken down camo pattern, but instead of camoing the majority of their upper body, I think I'll stick with smoother and more whole areas of colour, while applying the actual camo only to the shoulder pad and possibly half of the helmet as well (on the large shoulder pad's side).

I love the stealth suit head conversions on those suits, looking great! Now it looks like there is quite a lot of great conversion-mania invested in all of those suits, but please ask a Fio to improve the camera on that drone of yours. Would love to see a better photo (without black primer?) Kern P.S.: It's perfectly fine to post the photo's in a new post, you don't have to edit the first post every time (except to change the title)
