Hello!

Due to the problem that I'm not allowed to create new topics in the project log forum, I post this one here. It would be great if someone could push it in the right category.

My Tau army is so far nearly completed. I just have to paint some weapons for my Krisis and some Drones. Further I have a couple of Firewarriors, but at the moment I have enough painted, so it's not necessary.

I'm not high skilled in painting, but, that's my opinion, I've got a "big" army on a good standard. Nevertheless I'm really impressed what you guys out there can make. For now I'm waiting for the new codex and new miniatures.

But less talking, more pictures ;)

My commander

and the Krisis

I have six Krisis Battlesuits. Each one has at least 3 magnets to fit to each battlerole.

1 of 3 Firewarrior squads.

The arms of the Koloss are magnetized. I can switch between the rockets, or the plasma fire.

The missiles of the Skyray are all magnetized :)
Image

Image

Image

The weapons of my 2 Hammerhads are magnetized also.
Image

full scale war. This my whole cadre.

I have a complete BFG Tau army, but will post it later. At the moment I'm painting some Space Hulk miniatures. As you can see on the pictures I've painted my terrain too, although my terrain isn't really something spectacular I'm really proud of it, because all the people i know don't have so much painted terrain. :)

Still I'm dreaming of that great Tau city I have seen on ATT.

Criticas are welcomed!

That is a really nice collection of models,

I also like that scheme, and something we should not forget are more pictures of that commander are needed with explanations how you built him!

Greetings,

-Che Gue'vesa

p.s. I have moved your Thread to the Project Logs area.

Thanks Che

Unfortunately I have to say, that this Commander is not my idea. I saw him on ATT long ago and felt in love in an instance. I bought him on:
http://www.planet-fantasy.biz/Infinity/ ... :5210.html (a German online shop)

I just cut the feet (to look more like hoofs. I tried to make some of my own, but it looked ugly), the gun and then magnetized the gun (what was over of it) and the hand. I will upload more pictures of him later. I'm very busy at the moment (12 days in a row without an free day and at least 10 hours a day... sometimes I hate it to be a chef.)

But here are some pictures of something other. As promised, here is my Tau BFG Fleet:

The whole fleet. I have 2 Explorers, 2 Heroes, 1 Merchant, and some little ships.

I hope I will get some clearer shots in the future with my new camera ;)

I hope you enjoy it. Criticism is very welcomed.

You have a very clean style of painting. I would suggest some additional highlights on the edge of the suits and armor, close up details such as lens effect, and more shrubs on the bases.

Thank you Macknight. Unfortunately shrubs are out of stock at the moment, but I will fix it. Lens effects are a problem for me, because they're a little bit too small. I'm not skilled enough at the moment to receive a real "lens effect".

For Che here are some close ups of my Commander, as promised:

here is in addition one picture of my... hmmm... first attempt on a self made commander. I'm not proud of it.

But at the moment I'm working on something different. I've finished some Symbionts from Space Hulk.

I decided me for a grey/white scheme with some green. It's easy to paint and it looks good. But decide on your own.

Hello again!

After a little break with painting, I've made a little progress with my Tau force. From a guy of a german Warhammer 40.000 forum I have these two minis. He has build them on his own. The link is here: http://www.gw-fanworld.net/showthread.php?t=158172

But here are my two finished girls. <Toilet humor removed> - TA

I hope you like the new photos. As always criticism is very welcome

Hello Guys,

I'm back again, with a little terrain update.

After I finished some terrain (you can see it partial on my other photos), I looked at my terrain, and there was something missing. Now I bought some grass. And it looks pretty much better I think.

Image

Image

as you can see, the grass on the two pictures has different colors. What is in your opinion better? In the first picture, I have washed the grass with Gryphone sepia. I think it's better, because it's darker.

ImageImage
Image

same here with my jungle. The grass isn't washed at the moment. So for what should I go? The jungleplants are very light. Maybe, I should let it like it is?

Here is my actual project:

A destroyed Cybot:

Image

Image

The back is destroyed (or at least it should like it is destroyed). After this guy is finished there will be another jungle (just a little bit bigger) for my Kroot to hide. Jungles are much funnier now, because of the mysterious jungle rules!

I ordered 3 Hazards an a plasmacannon turret for my Hammerhead. Hope they will arrive in the near future. They will have priority one.

Best regards
Chris

Hey Guys,

a little update. The destroyed Cybot is painted and based. It looks (in my opinion) fantastic. As you see on my other miniatures, I don't make weathering or battle damage effects very often. I think the Sentinel graveyard and the destroyed Chimera are the first ones :P

I know, you guys out there are much better in painting, and the work I saw here was much more fantastic. But, the destroyed Cybot was made with my hands, and my sweat... to say it with some dramatically words. I would be very pleased if you can give me some feedback about that Cybot especially, but about the other terrain in general too.

Thanks a lot! And here are the pictures!

Best regards
Chris

Finally I've placed a big order with some friends on FW.

Now, the few things, I've ordered are now here.

I have now 3 XV9 Hazard Suits. But theres a lot of work to do. I will keep some updates here, to show the approach. Unfortunately I have to work a lot at the moment, so there will be only slow progress.

These are my brand-new XV9 Hazard Suits. How do you like the pose?

And my new Hammerhead turret, and a Sensor Tower.

I hope to start painting them at Wednesday. :)

I like your color scheme on the Hammerhead and the last two poses, but the top one kinda looks like he's dancing, to be honest.

So finally I had some time to paint (at least the trouble with my girlfriend had something positive  ).

And I have made a big step. The Hammerhead turret, the Sensor Tower and one of my Hazards are finished. The other two Hazards are WIP.

I'm very satisfied how my color scheme worked out.

And to the posing... yeah... it really looks a little bit like a dancing queen. There are many people who don't like the battlesuits, which are standing on one foot. I heard even from people saying, that they look like a dog peeing on a lantern mast.

But for me it is a good method to make it look "mobile". As it was the first Hazard I assembled, I had even problems to assemble it (whooow... so much assembling...). The suit is glued, so my army has to live with his dancing queen. And he finds in a good society with the others Krisis, standing on one foot. ;)

But enough talking, now you get some pictures! And as always, please criticize me!

it's all looking really clean, but also really flat, might I suggest a purple wash for the shadowed areas, and maybe a touch of brighter reds along the raised edges (or a little grey along the black areas)? I think it would really make a big difference.

So guys,

after the good respond on this topic and per PM, I decided to make "highlights" and lens effects. Thanks to Taels gem Tutorial (viewtopic.php?f=37&t=6790) and Doppelganger who showed me the thread, I started with that. It was easier as I thought.

After that, I went to my local hobby retailer and asked him, which colors would be best for highlighting. At home, I had to learn how much work it was to highlight a tank like the Hammerhead. Don't know if my painting skill is too bad or something else, but it took really long! But the good result was each minute worth!

Now, I have done the same for one of my XV9, and I think you can see the difference on the picture! In reality it looks even better! Another XV9 is painted too and waits to be highlighted! Unfortunately I have to say, that some edges are a little bit inclined. I have to fix it! The pictures doesn't hide any mistakes!

But here are some pictures! I hope you like it.

Just a question before presentation:
are the highlighting colors too bright? A friend told me to "wash" the edges now with some badab black. But personally, I like it the way it is. What do you think?

Good job with getting an even red color!
A Badab black wash would really help the details of the models pop out at you. Right now there isn't much definition between different red surfaces and the wash will help bring that out. Also I'd recommend highlighting black in another color than grey. While it seems counter-intuitive grey highlights often look painted on and flat rather than actual highlights. I've found that using a dark color as a highlight usually works best. I usually use dark dark blue or purple to bring out the highlights. In you case, blue would probably look best and tie in the lenses with the black areas of the vehicle.

I think those highlights look great! I'd be a little skeptical about a black wash though... I think purple or brown might work better for shading.

Thanks for the motivating words guys.

So the guy I talked to, said, that I should make a thin layer of badab black ONLY over the bright grey highlights, to darken them a little bit. That would help that they do not pop out and painting mistakes aren't so obvious.

If I understand you guys right, you suggest, that I should go with black (or purple) over the whole tank, to make after highlights some depths.

I have to say, that I'm a little bit skeptical....
Image

but I hadn't expect that my models would look THAT good with highlights... Unfortunately I will have no time in the next few days to go to my local WH40K retailer, so the wash thing has to wait. But there is a lot of work to do with the unpainted Hazard and my "dancing queen" want to be highlighted too... and after that there is a whole painted army... highlights would be very cool on all of them...

If I think on all the work to redo them.... haw man... but thanks for the good ideas! I will try a black and purple shadow on one of my piranhas. If finished, I will upload pictures of course!

Thanks and best regards
Chris

So guys, my army grows further and further...

I managed to paint all three XV9 Hazard Suits and to highlight them. The look really cool in my opinion and I'm really satisfied! But look:

Image

Further I bought me some allys. Here are some pics of Eldrad and a squad of rangers. I will play Eldrad as a normal Farseer.

Image

ImageImage
ImageImage

Although Eldrad is not perfect, he looks good. The first Eldar I painted! Some details have to be fixed and of course he waits for some shrubs and sand. The Rangers will follow.

But today arrived my newest toys: two Tetras and a XV81 Battlesuit (the guy with a SMS on his back!). I plan to buy twinlinked Burstcannons for him, so with his SMS and the Burstcannons he has 7 shots on 18". I like ;)

And if I won't play him with a SMS he looks great... and can count as carrrying a normal missisle pod.

As always I wait for your comments!

Great painting work Chris,

Those Hazards look sharp in that scheme, and Eldrad looks like he's going to turn out nice too.
