mangozac,

WOW!

This is looking better and better!! The improvements on the legs look great (I too wondered why you went back to the them).

Don't worry I did the same when I first took a step back and looked at it!

Paulson is a laugh - I'm not even finished building this thing yet and he's already got wild plans for how he wants to hack his up and modify it! It looks like a Star Wars Buzz Droid on steroids from hell!

Mayhem; if all goes to plan I'll be in production by Christmas.

To all: see, I didn't go hacking up the leg in vain - it's way more awesome now! You have no idea how happy I am that I did that ;)

Wow Zac, I guess it's been a while since I've said anything here in this thread, but I have to say that this has really come together nicely for you. I agree about the leg --much better lines now with the new modifications. It looks much more articulated and in some ways more aggressive and insect-like, which I think are all good qualities. I also agree that the legs do look a bit large compared to the body, but as you say, I'm not overly concerned about it. I certainly don't think it ruins "the look".

Keep going man. The end is near! ;)

Ok, here are some questions: (I may have missed some of these points or simply forgotten, but wanted to collate my thoughts into one area.)

Main hatch- what was the decision with this to complete it?
Mid-hull sensor stack- what's going on with that?
The hydraulic tubing on the ankles- does this 'rotate' and slide in and out of the sheath?
Can we get a shot from above and behind the main hull now that it is 'complete'?
Ladder on the side of the hull- is this happening still? (or engine vents?)
Also Photos to under the chin and under the a.s.s where the BC is mounted?
Am I right in remembering that the cannons do actually rotate upwards? (AA mount anyone? BYE BYE Thunderbudgie! ) - I know that you mention about a locking mechanism- what's your idea?

Other than that, I cannot critique this- it is to darn sweet!

cheers
W

I'm in the middle of writing a PhD research proposal and am categorically NOT allowing myself onto any 'fun' or 'news' sites. But my willpower gave and I had to see if you'd updated the thread.

All I can say is 'wow.' Stompy indeed (= Can't wait. Don't respond if I missed it, but what are the overall dimensions?

One of my 'eventual' projects is a carry-all style flyer to pick up and transport these super-big vehicles of the Tau - who said they can't be mobile? After all, they have grav-hook technology.

Anyhow, back to work. My fire warriors are begging for attention at me from across my desk and I must ignore them...

Somebody send a maintenance drone over to Wartang!

Warhound:
1. The main top hatch is done - it's simply a recessed hatch that's a separate piece so it can be modelled as open or closed.
2. The mid-hull sensor suite is done. I'm just finishing it's cowling (maybe even today) and then I'll take a pic of it for you.
3. The ankle hydraulics are fully poseable. Buy cutting the smaller diameter parts to length the angle of the foot can be modified. The angle you can see is simply using the "stock" lengths.
4. Yep I'll take these shots this afternoon.
5. It's not going to be a ladder on the side of the hull because it's a bit too impractical. There will probably be a vent system but I'm still working out what to make it look like.
6. More photos. OK.
7. Yes, the railguns rotate down about 30 degrees and up to almost 90 degrees. Oh and the modifications I made to the lower leg give me the railgun clearance I was after! The idea I had is to put a little nub poking out on one side of the railgun rotator and then on the chassis have little holes that the nub can click into as it rotates. Give it say half a dozen locking positions.

tyranny: I'm glad to have rewarded your moment of weakness ;)
Rough dimensions are 12" by 12" by 8" high. I imagine these things would be delivered by Orca gunships (as used in BFG, not the Orca dropship as used in 40k) that make landfall however what's not to say a dedicated flyer wouldn't be created for "hot drops"?
Good luck with the proposal.

Beautiful work Mango, beautiful.

The difference between leg units is marked alright. That extra effort has rewarded in spades.

My one curiosity is the small roundel turret on the torso section, it seems odd tucked up in the middle, my feeling is you have the torso "upside down" and that little roundel turret should be underneath, like a 'chin turret' of a Hammerhead.

Regardless, finally seeing it upright and stomping past some shas'la, it looks great indeed!

- Tael.

Seeing it go through each step of development just doesn't prepare you for seeing a full overall shot.
That ... is a real masterpiece!
No constructive criticism/suggestions here. Just looking forward to seeing it all casted up, posed and painted. :D But I wouldn't complain about more photos in the meantime!

Okay folks, :(

This was a recently established ruling on ATT. Overt discussion of online commerce is not allowed.

As quoted from our Membership Primers

Quote:
Is it permissible to post models to sell/buy?

We here at ATT are perfectly fine with posting models for sale/purchase - however - we will not be held responsible for any wrong-doing that occurs during the process. Furthermore, once interest is expressed, please take the discussion off-site and conduct final negotiations via email or PM. If you want a bullet-proof solution, there's always eBay.

For Ebay Auctions please refer to the Sticky at the top of the Mess Hall Forum.

Advertising & Commerce on Advanced Tau Tactica

Non-ATT-sanctioned commerce (advertising or soliciting items for purchase) is prohibited using our forum software. Members are, of course, free to contact each other outside of the forum if they wish to arrange a purchase or exchange.

ATT takes no responsibility for the outcomes of these dealings.

It is recommended that all members who do not wish to be contacted privately about purchase of their custom work, please make this clear in their Project blogs to avoid unwanted 'will you sell me one of those?' private messages.

Next member to breach this clear and 'You Should Have Read This' ruling will be banned.

My apologies Mango, carry on..
- Tael.

I realise that the little "sky sensor" pod seems to stick out and break up the lines a bit but that's exactly the kind of thing I was after. It probably won't be so bad once panel lines are done and it's painted.

Okay as promised here's some more pictures:

First up we have a 3/4 shot showcasing the upper sensor suite and sky sensor pod:

Next is the front on shot requested by Warhound:

And the above shot. Note that the section between the front and rear chassis is yet to be completed.

The rear end shot. I'm yet to do the final detailing on this area:

Lower front angle:

And finally the railgun vertical rotation:

Enjoy!

Ahh.. with the 'Lower Front Angle' the component really does fill out that area of the mid-section front. Cheers for the angled shots! Gorgeous work.

I love these shots man- they give a far truer flavour of what this beast is all about! Seeing all the little sensor pods, cameras etc and the sheer smooth surfaces has got the paint side of my brain going overtime! :P

The only critique I would offer is that he rotator for the guns, there is a 'flattening' on the bottom inner left curve which will need sorting before the cups get inserted at construction, and in a similar way to what you say about my missile rack, the sensor block in front of the hatch, looks odd? From above the angles look great, but from the front, they should meet the sides of the hull neater?

Love it man, lovin it!

cheers
W

I'd best be careful or we're going to have to send a maintenance drone over to fix Warhound's brain soon also!

I have no idea what you're talking about here :-?

Yeah that area still hasn't been carved to final shape yet and when I do the section between the hatch and the missile racks the whole area might get some modification.

Well guy's that's all the progress I've got for this week. I'm headed back to my parents' place for the weekend for my little brother's 21st birthday. Next week I've really got to get stuck into some uni projects but rest assured I'll try to sneak in some hobby time ;)

Ok, take the shot with the guns in the air... look at the vent area on the 'hip' unit and then look directly up... it look like there is a slight 'pointing' or flattening of the inner circle on the gun rotator?

The sensor unit, should have the sides filed off to a 3->45 degree angle down to the sides of the hull?

Hope that helps?

cheers
W
