ok, this is my first post on this forum so please bear with me (ive been known as the typo demon so beware)

i was looking for a cost effeciant (money wise) way of obtaining stealth suits now that the new codex is out. now ive heard of people making their stealths look extra stealthy by painting them to look like terrain or even making them out of clear resin. well what about nothing? its a stealth suit right? well my idea is this. i cut small base size disks out of foam and chipped away the tops giving it the look of a rocky surface. then i painted it in my armys base style (most of my army is based liek this anyways). but then i did somethign different. i did nothing. i just left hte bases alone and now i use the bases themselves as stealth suits. if anyone askes what they are i just say that they are in stealth mode. as for the rule about the modles containing 50% GW parts....just mount them on a GW base...? the only problem i see is with wysiwyg...but sine they are just standard with no upgrades nobody has ever objected to me useing them before.

give me your ideas on the validity of this conversion if you can call it that.
discuss weather wysiwyg affects it

HAHAHAHAHAHAAHA

don't do it. :/

Seriously, if you're just proxying stuff out to try it with friends, it's fine. If you're playing with other people, be prepared that they won't be so accomodating. And if you don't own the model, there's no way that proxying will fly in a "serious" game.

Tau Commercial:

"The new and improved Stealthsuits are so stealthy, ya can't even tell they are there!...which they ain't!"

I'dd have a laugh, but seriously, doubt a lot of people would agree to a few rocky swarms, as I figure your stealths look like, being used as stealths ;)

It seems to be a relatively comon misconception that the stealth field generator produces invisibility. NEWS FLASH! It doesn't.

well...the new stealths don't come out till the new cityfight dexdoes, and the local GW's don't sell the old ones anymore, so im at a bit of a loss.... i concidered making some firewariors into stealth suits but i cant get enough burst cannons. so this was my next option. so far nobody has had any complaints and the bases don't look half bad. they just look like a rocky surface. i was concidering at one point making foot prints ont eh bases.

is there anyway to make this idea work?

or do you all frown upon it so much that the concept itself should be distroyed with extreme prejudice

I would say that you have only a minor dilemma. If your local group is OK iwth it until the new ones are available, then its no big deal. You just wont get to use stealths in any regional tourneys.

If you are OK with the models, you could go the mail-order route for the old versions. Personally, but based only on pictures, I prefer the old ones anyway. Its interesting that your local shop isn't going to carry the old ones. Its my understanding they are going to still be produced by GW.

lol. there are no regonal tournys available around here for me to enter, lol. my army is basically for waltzing around my gaming club and my local GW. nobody has really voiced any objections, so im good so far. is there any way i could make this idea work? like putting partial wariors camoflauged in with the bases? any ideas would be helpful

I don't, I think it's a brilliant idea. But you HAVE to do the footprints, that'd be cool. :D

If you're just playing with friends, and don't have to run the gauntlet of facing the (sometimes) overly-precious tourny crowd, I say do it. As GW says themselves, it's your game, after all. ;)

That's hilarious! I love the idea.

You should do that for your local gaming group, but then get some XV15's on ebay or www.bartertown.org. Then go to a tourney & ask for a ruling on your 'conversions'. Just be sure you have the real ones in the box in case!

does anyone know a way i can make the footprints?

im using the pink insulation foam.

i have several options
1)just paint them on
2)try to cut them out with a knife
3)somehow melt them in (the plastic glue melts it and if i put glue ont eh bottom of fet then press it in it should create a footprint
...any other ideas?

I like the old suits myself.

eBay might have some.

I would so use sand instead of slock and have depressions in the sand by cutting a small indentation for them.

My other thing would be for you to actually buy them and have them modelled nicely. If someone complains, take out the "real suits" and play with them instead. Until you do have the suits, just use the models in friendly games.

Now if you could somehow model pulse fire coming out of thin air out away from the base, THAT'd be awesome.

As far as making footprints goes, I'd suggest using a knife to cut three shallow slots like this (\|/) into the foam and then pushing down where the three slots meet. That should crush down like a three-toed print, I think... that's just a guess though, so experiment with some scrap foam to see.

As far as the XV-15 pewter-cast suits go, I saw them still listed on the GW store site yesterday so if you want 'em they're still available. (For now, anyway.) Truth be told, I kinda prefer the look of the old suits.

lol, well my problem with buying off the internet is that i have no credit card...and no access to one...lol nore do i have any money. but yah nobody in my area complains about them they all just kind of laugh and call me a smartass then we play.

for footprints im thinking of just taking a foot from a spare warior leg and dabbing it in paint making sure there isnt to much on it. then pressing it down leaving the paint behind

Or use a little green stuff or similar material, and press a fire-warrior's feet into it, and pull out.

I'd do it, and if anyone gives you grief, explain the lack of stealth suit models. Then, when they become available, buy the actual models and put them on your prepared bases.

Wizkids did something very similar with their early run invisible woman models for heroclicks.
