I finally got my Forgeworld order in with the help of a certain member on this forum.

Here's my first completed XV89. The XV89 helmet makes this FW crisis better than the other imo, however I did get a mix of all three and should have the XV81 and XV84 done soon. While I'm happy with the "heavy" pose of my XV89 I did attempt to pose the model similar to the example on ForgeWorld, but was not able to get it right for some reason.

Nicely done, D6. The colors and highlights are crisp, and the lenses really jump out at you. Interesting weapon combination, though. Are they magnetized?

That red and khaki really works well together. Still showing off that crisp style too. Whilst you think you may have missed the intended pose, the one shown reads to me more an 'appraising the field' aura. I like it, not forced.

That khaki really responds well to hard highlights too.

~ Tael.
PS. I now know you have 2 more FW suits..........I'm waiting.. ;)

Nice work D6. I think that the head of the '89 is my favorite as well. I'm really a fan of your color scheme and this suit is no exception. I think what really makes this model striking are the blue lenses. Excellent color choice and technique on them. They really give the model a "soul". I'm with Tael. I don't think your pose is bad even if its not quite what you were going for.

In the first picture it looks kind of like the head cocked slightly to the side. Sort of gives the suit a slightly quizzical look. I know its not really like that. It's just the angle, but I can just see him thinking "What in Aun's name is that Kroot over there eating?" :D

Thanks. I've got another XV89 and am going to give another try at the FW like pose.

The lens tutorial on this site gets credit for the lenses.

They are not. I run MPs and TL Flamers on my suits (all monats).

Heh. Well, your modesty does you credit sir, but I'd venture to say that many people have used those tutorials, but far fewer have come out with such beautiful results. ;)

I'm looking forward to your next models.

very nice work as usual D6, it scaled up very well and your super smooth style works very well. As per Tael, your just right highlights for this style of painting are expertly done.

Véry nice scheme. And no worries about the pose, it's suitable for a suit.
I can already picture him on sentry duty, whilst someone is sneaking past behind him, and he's like.. "Hey.. What was that sound? Ohh, probably just a cat.." :)

Personally I'm not a fan of those very unsubtle highlights - I prefer smooth transitions - but this one's an exception. Really nice. Me digs.
The lenses are very well done.. Could you post the colours used on that? I know it's a stupid question (mix blue and white 'n stuff) but I never seem to get that stuff right myself.

That really looks great, D6: clean, crisp, subtle but with visual pop. The basing is also really natural and suits the model well, which is rarer than it should be. Nice job in bringing the models and the bases into a cohesive visual package.

Inspiration folder, for sure.

Great job!
That scheme is quite striking. The red is a sept colour, yes?
I really like the blue lenses, and they're perfectly done! They realy tie in with the rest of the model.
Your style is quite similar to my own- bold colours with sharp highlights. very anime!
keep up the great work!!

Regarding the details of the colors and materials. If you click on the first image, it will open up the Flickr page and by mousing over the image you will see notes on the model.

Thanks for the comments everyone. You're too nice ;)

Yes and no. My last Tau army was called the Mont'au rebels. They were modeled after a mix of German WW2 camoflauge schemes and a hodge podge look of multiple bands coming together with no sept colors.

The rebellion ended in a truce, and the Tau Empire carefully interviewed the remaining rebels and any that were believed to be suitable for duty (i.e., suitable for re-education) were absorbed into a one of three special Contingents (Tio've). Each of these three Contingents is attached (as needed) to a Sept Battle (Kavaal).

The Mont'au Rebels, now the Mont'au Tio've, have a regulation color scheme and insignia. Red being appropriate for the Mont'au ;)

ooh. I remember those guys from a GT article I think it was? One of my favorite tau armies (probably what kick-started my interest in them) :)

Although this one is less to my tastes, the bold highlighting and colours on the suits work really, really well. Look forward to more of them!

Masterful use of colors. I especially like the powder-blue eyes.

What kind of finish did you use? And are those highlights on the tip of the missile pod painted on, or are those real highlights?

I just looked. Very cool. I love all the variation in colors, the hand drawn markings and the poses. Would be a blast to see on the table I'm sure.
