Everything is getting close to being wrapped up. Just the treads, frag assault launchers and then to finish the weathering.

Awesome machine you got there. the interior is most impressive, I really like the wood paneling.
The exterior looks very smooth and detailed. The Tyranid trophies are a nice touch.
IMHO the backside could use some shading, especially near the exhaust pipes.
I am looking forward to the finished product. Keep it up!

@ Patchoro: Already ahead of you. That was just the first step in weathering the vehicle. Check it out now

Sadly the switch for the headlights broke (Radio Shack piece of junk) so the only way to turn the lights on or off now is to put in or remove the batteries

As an aside from my 40k stuff I've been spending some time to see how long it takes for me to paint models to tabletop quality. Ive been working on painting some of a friend's Mage Hunter Strikeforce for him and it seems to take about 2 hours per model. (Simple Airbrush shading, basic coloring, inks, drybrushing)

All of them with examples of how they should be painted.

I have 9 more almost finished. Now that I'm back/not sick I'll have them finished.

Well the Mage Hunters are done. With only a couple hours per piece, they're not too bad on time. Now I have to figure out what to work on next.

Back to working on my space wolves, I've been trying to get all of the conversions done before I start painting since changing out paint colors on an airbrush takes up a huge chunk of time.
Here is another Rune Priest.

I can't believe I missed this thread for so long! I have a question for you though, is there any particular reason that your land raider used two AAA batteries in series? I recently wired up a rhino much like your land raider (although wiring was much tighter) and I found that the batteries in succession was a bit of a waste considering that you now have the batteries operating a circuit at 3V, only to use resistors to drop it back to 1.5V for the LEDs. If there is something I missed, then I apologize, but I just saw it as a bit of a waste.

Actually the Land Raider uses 4 AAA batteries in series if you look at the WIP pictures. The LEDs I'm using are high power 3.2V-3.5V LEDs so I had to get my voltage above that in order for them to work so that meant either 4.5v or 6v. I figured I would make it so all my vehicles would use the same type power source so I went with 6V in case the other vehicles would need electronics that required more than 4.5V. The resistors are there since all the LEDs are run in parallel so you need to use resistors in order to drop the voltage for each type of LED in order to prevent blowing them out.

It's kinda funny that the LEDs are so bright that I've had some complaints of being blinded by my opponents. Before I started the project I was worried that the LEDs wouldn't be visible in bright daylight. I guess I went a little overboard.

As for the wiring, I wanted to make it tighter, but I had to leave some slack in the wiring so I could finish painting the interior then assemble it with the wiring intact.

Aah, I used 1 volt LEDs on my rhino, so a single AA worked. Using higher power LEDs makes sense then.

Random fluff question - do Rune Priests use books? Just curious since from what I read in 'Thousand Sons' they're sort of clueless to the warp or at least where in 30k and thought they were just using the 'World Engine'. He looks really good although a few more items on his legs might looks good if they can be subtle runes or something.

In light of Prospero Burns, I'm actually going to remove the book. According to the book, the only form of record that is allowed on Fenris is memory and oral.

As for Space Wolves knowledge of the warp, from Prospero Burns and A Thousand Sons, it seems that the Space Wolves have the most sanctioned knowledge of the warp of any Space Marine legion. This boils down to the fact that they know the true corrupting uncontrollable nature of the warp and that they should deal with it as little as possible. Meanwhile the Thousand Sons and Librarians have learned to manipulate the warp, but are completely naive of the malevolent root of the power.

Wow, it's been a long time since I've updated this log. I've still been painting and modeling, but with school and work I haven't had the time for stuff online. Hopefully Gradschool won't be too much more of an effort. Without further delay:

The main project I've been working on has been getting all 80+ models of my space wolves painted. I took the time to paint several models in succession to show the beginning steps of the process.
Image
1. Starting from the left I basecoated all the miniatures with a special paint mix I made specifically for my space wolves. For this I used an airbrush to quickly paint the grey horde.
2. With the basecoat applied I pre-shaded all the models with Space Wolf Grey, also with the airbrush
3. Since most of the bloodclaw/skyclaws in my army are reckless and avoid wearing their helmets I have lots of faces to basecoat with Tallarn Flesh. Even though I'm painting over a really dark color, the foundation paint quickly covers the blue even when thinned down.
4. The next step is to paint all the other light colored areas with Dheneb Stone.
5. With the Dheneb stone in place I basecoat all the red parts with Mechrite Red and all the yellow with Iyanden darksun. Red and yellow can be a real pain to paint but starting with a good foundation basecoat can really save you some time.
6. With all the foundations down I can then go over and get to my final colors with only 2-3 coats. Most of the Dheneb stone becomes Bleached Bone while the Mechrite red is covered by blood red (Don't worry this gets muddied up later). I'll have to recheck my yellow but I believe I used sunburst yellow to go over the Iyanden Darksun.

I've been working on casting some durable bases for my minis since resin has a tendency of shattering when dropped. I quickly painted up a few of them in several different styles.

I now have enough sculpts to base my entire Space Wolves army. I was curious to see just how tough these bases are so I dropped one off a 2nd story balcony onto concrete. The base didn't deform like GS or shatter like resin. Just a small repairable chip along the edge. If I had a mini attached to the base it would have broken into a million pieces with that amount of abuse.

Back to working on my space wolves. I have most of the wolves base coated with the fur and hair on them done so I've started working on sets of 5 at a time. Here are 5 Blood Claws almost finished.

Next is to finish their faces & hair, add pack markings, weathering, and base them.

I picked up 4 more XV8s and another box of XV25s when my local store closed. Including what I already have that gives me 9 crisis suits and 6 more stealth suits to convert and paint up. Maybe the new codex rumors will finally motivate me to work on them.

I wasn't too happy with how the tartans turned out. In that color they just took too much attention away from the rest of the model. Here is a photo of one redone. Its still bright and eye catching but not clashing with the rest of the model.

I have one Blood Claw almost finished. The weathering is almost done, I have to add a little grease and barrel wear but he is practically finished.

I'm in the middle of weathering the bulk of the blood claws and was wanting input on which looked better.

Fist we have snow & ice encrusted on his legs

Second is without snow and ice. (This one has yet to get a custom base)

Which do you think looks better? Or should it just have the level of snow & ice turned down?
If you can't post in this forum, please feel free to drop me a PM
