Hello ATT,

I've been lurking here for years and finally got a wild notion tonight to post photos of my cadre.

I'm going to start small and just post an image of the FW Shas'el I just finished. More to come!

Thanks!

Awesome looking model, I particularly like the lens effects on the multi-tracker. How did you get the lines on the chest so straight? The ones on my FW helmets are always either hugely fat and straight, or thin and wobbly. Also:

L0rdM0nki,

By the looks of your Shas'El and by the preview of your Fire Warriors which is your avatar, I just can't wait to see your models. You made me curious, and your skills are definetely there.

So, let me be rude: hurry up and post those 'pics!

Thank you for sharing with us,

Kiten

The painting is top notch ! (and the little modifications also :) )
Do you also have some fluff for this cadre ? I don't mean a novel , I mean a phrase or two that tells why are they painted like that , and what is their home sept .

Hey L0rdM0nki!

Real nice stuff! I mean really ; beautiful use of contrasting colors, great pose, and GORGEOUS gem work on the green bits!

I also love the detail on the base; is that cast resin or did you make it from greenstuff?

I'm in total agreement with zasapamasawasa & Kiten, we need more!!!

Thanks for the compliments! Sorry for the late reply. I've been on vacation for a few weeks so I'm just getting around to posting.

@Null: The base is greenstuff and plasticard.

@Mesciurius: I have a tad of fluff for these guys but I need to flesh it out a bit more. I see them being decidedly urban Tau of a Sept of my own making.

@zasapa: Practice! :smile:

Here are some more pics of the new Shas:

I am in utter amazement at your painting skills. EVERYTHING looks fantastic. The paint job on your Tau face is superb. The coloring on the Kroot skin and quills ties them perfectly to the color scheme of your Fire Warriors. Your Shas is outstanding; the painting, the pose, even the small bitz thrown in...I especially love the look the bottom half of a stealth field generator can bring to the side of the jump pack.

Keep up the great work and I CANNOT wait to see what will become of the repainted XV-8s. I am in total envy of your painting skills right now.

Love the suits...love the faces (kroot and tau both)...love the drone. HATE the fire warriors, not a fan of the kroot (from the neck down).

Beautiful work again L0rdM0nki

I love the crispness of your style. While the colors are obviously contrasting they look really slick when painted the way you've done it; the style gives a very 'cartoon' feel to the suits (which IMHO is a really cool thing). Your highlights are also very well done, which is yet another thing I envy you for ;) .

That makes me cry.... These suits are still way better than my 'best' :P . I agree with Ar'ka, can't wait to see them touched up though!

If I may be so bold as too ask; what is your method for painting tau skin? Also, what's your secret for getting your Sept markings so straight?

Maybe if you explained why you feel this way your comment wouldn't come across as being so........ harsh.

Anyway, great work L0rdM0kni!

EDIT: Added more unabashed praise at the suggestion of the mighty marnepup

A little expansion on "why" you hate them would be helpful to the OP, as the comment has come across a little harshly, unfortunately.

L0rdM0nki

Nice work, and thanks for finally deciding to get involved on the site! Lurker, with an army like this???

Exceptional painting Lordmonki, highlights are think and straight. The detail Is also top notch, namely the lenses and sept indication symbols.

I'm not much of a fan of the chosen colours, as I personally think they clash with each other, but the detail wins It for me.

Nice posing of the battlesuits also. ;)

@null : Tael's resource post on skin was my guide... http://www.advancedtautactica.com/viewtopic.php?f=37&t=4866

...with some personal tweaks, of course. I tend to glaze with purples and add a little fleshy pink to the final highlight.

@Eiglepulper: I try to make lurking an art.

@Marnepup: I appreciate the hate! Any suggestions would be appreciated, even harsh ones.

LOL...sorry, I guess the others are right...my opinion has no value without an explanation. At the same time, praise without explanation is equally worthless, yet nobody complains. Funny, that.

What I love about all of your work is the care and quality of execution. There's zero evidence of sloppiness. On the suits and drone, I'm impressed by the color choice. They look like they're made of exotic nonmetallic composite materials...just the sort of high-tech stuff you'd expect in a gundam-inspired army. As for the faces, the shading, blending, highlighting, and other wizardry that you've applied trick the eye into thinking the underlying model is far more finely sculpted than it really is. All of those are things to build on.

What I don't like about the fire warriors is the colors. For me, they are far too garish. They're dressed, in an armored sort of way, like hookers on the Reeperbahn!

As for the Kroot...what stands out to me in a negative way is your choice of colors for their flesh, but not in the same way that I don't like the fire warriors. See, the care and talent that you've obviously poured into your work is exceptional. The bland skin tone of the Kroot doesn't measure up to the quality of your work. To put it another way, you've done an impressive job of skillfully applying an underwhelming color. Would Phidias's Zeus have been as impressive if he'd rendered it in clay instead of ivory and gold?

Lol! Mission accomplished. Next up is leopard print. :D

I really appreciate your thoughts on this. You've actually vocalized a concern I've had since I began painting the Firewarriors. From the outset I strove to have a very limited color palette using a tight triad that would be vibrant and almost clash. I've never felt like I nailed it from a color theory point of view, but at least you can't ignore them on the tabletop!

I've got to take some pictures of my vehicles. Until then, I've got some wip shots of my second Shas. With this model I wanted to challenge myself a bit more from a modeling aspect (the prior Shas was a challenge to paint a white with depth). My goal is to have him painted this weekend.

I'm impressed and envious at the same time. :-(

Not only are you a superb painter, but an expert modeller too!
I can hardly find anything at fault with the models. The painting is excellent. The colour choises, while a bit garish in my opinion, fit so well. And I've never seen so vibrant blue and orange. Any chance you'd be willing to part with the recipe?
The only negative thing's that I have to say is that I'm not too fond of the kroot, while the painting is excellent the colours seem kind of weird (and you didn't drill out their gun barrels), and that you haven't finished the second Shas'el. :P

Very nice colour scheme! It's not many that manages to pull off such bold colour without making their army looking like an American Christmas Tree (Sorry, yanks. But, alas, it be true). You did, however, pull it off and as we all can see it looks stunning. Keep it up!

Mmmmm, crisp clean finish with subtle shading and some lovely details. Right up my alley. Certainly a star first post and very much looking forward to your continued work. Thanks for posting these inspiring pieces :)

I had a couple of queries but you answered them earlier.

@Tael: Thank you kindly. Your work has been an obvious influence on mine and I really appreciate the modeling and painting posts you've made available here over the years.

@ Freeloader: Thanks! Christmas Tree avoided :) You wrote a great painting post awhile back and I love the look of your army too.

@ Vicard: I might try to take pics of my palette this weekend and name each paint. The main color is Enchanted Blue straight out of the bottle for intensity.
