Hi all, seeing as I've taken the plunge (or rather my wallet has!) of buying an absolute bundle of Tau figures, I thought it'd be appropriate to post them here - especially since my initial admiration of the figures came from none other than Eastern Empire!

I have to say I'm not really a gamer, but at the start of this year I started taking up the brush again after a period of about 15 years without doing a thing! God, things have moved on somewhat - years ago I'd have been happy putting on a layer of flock to my bases, now I tend to be happier with some of the bases than the figures themselves!

The Long Tau Project (as I'm calling it at the moment) is as the name suggests, gonna take a while. It's my sideline to the other models that take my eye. I wanted to see whether I could paint an army of the buggers to a certain standard in as efficient a way as possible (well, for me - I'm never going to be able to paint 10 at the same time!). So, they don't have the detail of some of the models I do, but hopefully as a squad (and an eventual army) they'll look okay.

So then...what scheme? Well, as much of a fan of the traditional army as I am, I kind of wanted to do something different. Winter themes cropped up, and I really did want to try out my little packet of white snow (which, in the little packet they provided, looks suspicious!). So, the idea was formed and here's the first one:

Image

So there we are. Provided you don't throw me off the board for boring you all to death, I'll carry on posting up my results (and I hope Shas'El Tael won't mind, but I really was inpired by his 'other species' firewarriers - I am going to attempt to do something similar!).

Wish me luck

Very, very nice work Joek, straight into Galleries on your first post, well done.

Nice nuances of colour going on here, have you added or used some purple to give it a tone?

May I make the suggestion of giving his gloves your under-suit colour of future FW's, at least to try it out?

I'll give the darker a gloves a go with the next couple I do - I've got one more to finish the base on today - which'll look like this one (well, I hope...). I'll pop the finished ones here, and probably start a Work In Progress thread in 'painting', or does anyone mind if I carry on with it all here?

I would suggest keeping this one as the work in progress thread. Then, when it's all done, start a new one so people can see the whole thing, without having to wade through pages of posts.

Thought I'd post up what originally got me hooked on the Tau - a Kroot. Not a table top figure really - I was trying out a whole swathe of things on it to try to improve. Whilst it's not anywhere near up there with a lot of folks' work, I'm still fairly proud of it!

I bought a box of Cadian IG today with the sole intention of completely cutting them up and making human Tau Firewarriors with them! I've got the bug something terrible now ;)

It all looks great. Love the color variation on the Kroot.

Nice bases.

Very well painted!
I like your clean, simple color-scheme here, and I've always loved a well done winter-theme.
I completely understand the problem of too many models and each taking far too long to paint. I just added to my pile of unpainted Tau by buying the Rapid Insertion Force, bringing my new total up to around 75ish unpainted models. Makes the 15 that I have completed seem a pathetic number.

Looking forward to seeing more of your progress!

That Rapid Insertion Force is just fantastic - and I'm dying the get it (found an auction on eBay selling a new one with about 25% off!), but the sensible voice in my head is telling me not to.

Of course, that voice very rarely wins, and at the end of the day, it *will* be bought eventually, so my logic is 'why delay the inevitable' ;)

Fabulous paint job! and color theme! I really the smooth and crisp lines.
The paint you thinned it down with water.. right? It's applied so smooth. Bravo!

I really enjoy seeing Tau models like this! = Gorgeous!

Think I got the camo worked out for the drones now...of course, they don't have guns at the mo, and I haven't done any work on the...erm...aerial thing, but we're getting there!

Fantastic work, Joek!
Fw- great standard and a rather innovative use of what looks like purple ink? Love the lenses also. The scheme is a good one, by anyone's standards! Amazing bases too!
Kroot- fantastic pose and even better painting! May I suggest a colour more akin to the gun cloth thingy (that his left hand's holding) for the body wrap? The red seems to blend in a little. On my kroot I'm trying to make the cloth seem as random as possible.
Drones- good camo. It'll look great on 'fish!
Keep up the great work!

Yay! First drone done.

Image

(I'm kind of glad I've done the bases like they are - it ties everything up really. Also, it deflects attention from any mistakes on the model itself ;) )

I really like that pattern on your drones. Very simple, yet effective.

Mind if I ask why the carbines are pointed down, though?

Obviously not finished yet, but I hope it's clear that the chap's injured. Now...what bloody do Tau have?
