This Stealthsuit is a WIP "sample" model for my new Tau Cadre. Rotting Flesh and Scaly Green are the chosen armour colours, but I am undecided about the colour for the cables running from the backpack to the markerlight. Red and green are complementary colours, but I'm just not convinced that red, which is the strongest colour in the spectrum, is the best way to proceed.

I wasn't certain whether Tau cables would be 'bare metal' like Imperial ones, so I didn't go down the line of metallic colours, but this is probably curtailing my options. I would appreciate sensible suggestions, bearing in mind the type of this unit ie Infiltrate/Stealth/Outflanking, so no purple with pink spots!

Thanks for your help,

E.

Perhaps an off-tint of red? I was going to suggest Warlock Purple or Blazing Orange. Orange would be my first choice to complement that turquoise you have already.

I try to use codex grey for any electronic stuff, Tau panels on antennas, etc.. so i did my ML cables in grey too.

I like red. It's hidden in a stealth field in combat. So a practical technician might mark sensitive electronics in a bright color for safety during servicing if they new it would be hidden in a stealth field anyway.

Thanks for your replies. It seems that a variation of red would be the general consensus. I've now had a chance to see the cables in true daylight, rather than under a daylight bulb, and it doesn't seem *that* bad. However, I think I will try out a mix of Scab Red and Warlock Purple and compare the results to Codex Grey.

Thanks again for your ideas.

What about black with some dark grey highlights? or do you want it to stand out more? Also, what is going to be your 3rd colour in the scheme, after bone and turquise?

E.

Personally, I don't have a problem with the red mate...I think it sets the other two colours off nicely. Maybe instead of Rotting Flesh though, whack a tiny bit of green into some Bleached Bone, use that as a base coat and then attack it liberally with Devlan Mud and maybe a touch of Ogryn Flesh.

I'm just feeling maybe the deep shade is a bit too subtle. Personally I like quite comic-booky looking models though. I go for a sort of "Batman The Dark Knight" kind of look to my finished models. I'll pop you up a pic of some of my GoTC Marines when I get chance, to illustrate the style i'm referring to...if you don't get what I mean (which I wouldn't blame you for with all my rambling).

Til' then, have fun!

Good stuff!

I'm a fan of the Tan/Beige/Bone and Teal/Turqoise scheme that I've seen one or two times on ATT. I think it's just the huge contrast in the colours that helps. Good clean lines like yours also help, of course!

Personally, I'd agree with the Red favouritism, specifically Scab Red. That nice, rich, dark red won't go amiss when combined with the boney colour of the armour, and will provide a nice contrasting colour to the turqoise. Take a look at the older Tau colour schemes from the last codex, mainly the XV8's, they had a desert/red combo.

Thanks,O'Bugr. I shall await the arrival of the pics. As it turns out, my wife also doesn't have a problem with the red colour either! Nevertheless, I thought it prudent to obtain some suggestions from ATT's experts as well ;)

The Rotting Flesh sections have actually been glazed with a 2:1 wash of Gryphonne Sepia which has tinged the RF with a brown tint, thus warming it up slightly and also of course changing the hue. None of this tends to come out too clearly in the photograph though which is a problem. Straight application of Devlan Mud was placed into the groin sections where the leg armour and the lower abdomen-codpiece armour almost but not quite meet.

@Fraggle: Looks like the Scab Red is the winner.

@sLai: a third colour for the suit itself is not really on the cards, as I don't want to have too distracting a palette. However, finding colours to complement the Rotting Flesh and Scaly Green is important as those colours will be used for sections on the models like the MLs, lenses, knife handles etc.

Well, I uploaded my WIP pathfinders so you can see a grey cable. As I said it goes with my theme of having all the tau transmission/elctronic panels grey too, like the military does with unpainted parts of certain aircraft.

I know I still need to do touch ups!!

If you do go with grey it is kinda plain unless it ties in with Tau panels on antennas, etc like I did here:

Yes, the grey certainly works with those blues and also with the "pick-up" sections on the suits. Thanks for your help and effort there in posting the pictures; it does make it easier to see the idea in action.

I have decided finally to go with the Scab Red - highlight Blood Red - Baal Red wash combination, as both the Rotting Flesh and Scaly Green are on the opposite side of the colour wheel and therefore work very well with the darker red of Scab. Thanks to all who have contributed their suggestions and ideas to help me make up my mind.

As the decision has been made, I shall lock up the thread.
