I like the holes in the fish. How did you put them there?

Drill bit, move around while inside hole after painting then painting the exposed plastic is my guess.

There is a guide on the games-Workshop page for armour damages on spacemarine armour.
its nearly like Absintheminded said, drill a hole and then use a knife.

The devilfish looks good, but the firewarriors look a bit confused and messy to me.
I think your colour-scheme works well on the tank, but it loses definition on the infantry, especially by adding blue and red. I know Kommando Khaki is a tough colour to paint over black so you could try swapping it for Khemri Brown, or use a white spray instead.
Anyway my main points are: •Orange and Khaki works as a colour scheme (not sure about the camo green) •Don't add other colours (except perhaps for details and insignia) •You will find your scheme is easier to paint over a white undercoat, or stick with black and use foundation paints.
I hope that is helpful.

How does everyone find girlfriends that love Warhammer? When I told my last girlfriend about it, she just stared at me like I was stupid. That went well...

Those GF issues worries me! Anyways, I think the infantry colourscheme is a bit "unbalanced", it's just too many different kinds of colours if you know what I mean. Your effects on the models though are really nice. I really like those "gunshot"wounds on the Devilfish!

I definitely agree with Serak. The fire warriors have way too many garish colors on them to be appealing to the eye. I think that if you limited it to the orange and khaki, though, they'd look quite nice. Orange and green just makes me think of vomit... sorry. However, I was wondering, what's the second gun that the fire warrior on the right is holding? It looks like an Eldar weapon, almost.

Doing a trial model is always a good idea rather than blasting ahead on several models, only to find that what looked good on paper actually doesn't look *quite* as good on the real thing. It also gives you an opportunity to see the flaws, alter your ideas or notice things on the model which you hadn't considered. It also allows you to practise applying the paint, washes and so forth. All this isn't meant to sound as "Beginner's Instruction Manual" as it appears! I personally did all of this recently for a new colour scheme for my Tau, as I have had enough of the Red-Black one. Another thing you might like to consider is watering down your paints a little bit more, as your pictures suggest that the paint is a tad thick. Applying perhaps two coats allows for a smoother-looking surface on the model. This article gives a very good in-depth look at watering down paints. E.

Personally I have no problem with people using flashy colors on models. Tau dress uniforms are supposed to be flashy. In a standard military uniform though there is usually a theme, there should be a certain harmony to your scheme. Try to stick to one or two major colors at the most and then use shades of those in between, after you've worked over the whole model, then you can pick out specific areas with gold or silver (for antanae) or greens and orange (Lenses are likely candidates for this) but use them very sparingly!
Blue and orange are opposing colors just like black and white are. Be VERY careful about your use of these types of colors together as they can make your models look rather cartoony, this is especially true with bright opposing colors. Take a look at a color wheel sometime to find out what colors oppose each other.

1. okay i overpainted the first FWs and Firey Orange+Kommando Khaki does look better that Camo Green (which looks like Greenstuff btw) 2. i reduced the other colors to a minimum (like to the warpaint on the armor and guns) 3. my First gue'vesa is nearly done but still WIP (i will get a better picture later) 4. i changed the right arm of the FW with the DE Pistols (he had a DE arm with 5 fingers on its hand)

Quick aside first - eiglepulper, nice Xv15s!
Back on topic - Yeah, for bright colours, is a foundation paint job unless your happy working with undercoat.
Its a great stark colour scheme, definitely one of the better ones I have seen, helped by a very smooth colour, not as patchy as it could have been. Good work.
My only concern is the lack of armour edge detail - have you considered how to go about picking it out? The colours you have don't immediatly suggest a third colour for the armour crevasses, so it might be worth going 'back to base' as it were with black, giving a fittingly stark border between each armour plate.

The problem is that i overpaintedt the models and so the black lines of the base coat is overpainted but i am working on that. I hope that the minis which are still black will look better. - Blacklining seems to do the job ... its just veeerry hard to do right >.<

Che Gue'vesa wrote: Kroot Shaper and 2 Carnivores I love how you have made the parts of the Kroot Armor match the Tau's armor. My biggest problem with Kroot models it they don't fit uniformly into the Tau's high tech look. You have probably got the closest you can without doing a proxy. I am definitely a newbie when it comes to painting, but what I can see here is pretty well painted, and the look of those Kroot will definitely compliment the rest of your army. I never had the desire to use Kroot in my army unless they were represented by some 'pimped out' Fire Warriors. You have certainly made me consider putting them in with a matching paint scheme.
