With one week to spare before the Chicago GT. Time to start packing. I was hoping to finish my remaining Hammerhead and Piranha formations for a pick up game Friday night but they will have to wait till later in the month. Anyone else going?

D6Veteran :
That army is quite impressive (much better than the "chrome" version of it!), and it's good to see it
complete. It looks like a pretty competitive list as well. I'm guessing that the three battlesuits are a
Commander with Bodyguard, correct? The painting across the board is amazing, as always.

Good luck at the GT. I was planning on going, but school and work got in the way... Keep us informed!

GAAHHHHH. You have successfully created my "almost" dream army. A fully mechanized Tau cadre, wonderfully painted and impressive. All you need is a few more suits maybe? 1750 is perfect, since that leaves you another 750 to expand in suits to 2500. Any chance you could leave some hints as to how you got around to painting it all, since they are grade "A" quality on top of being finished...?

Thanks guys.

@Spartan Tau - All the suits are monats (commander and two elites). I run them that way for flexibility and to increase my number of targetable units to 32 (including drones and Fire Warriors dismounted).

@ J'Kaara Nan - I'm working on the 2000 and 2500 lists, and it's all suits and Piranhas. In terms of how to paint them all. I basically do them in a production line. So like I based all the vehicles, then air brushed them all green, then lined them all with dark green, then weathered them all, then did all the lenses . . . . it's all about rhythm for me.

I swapped out the 3rd Hammerhead for the sniper drone teams last minute (I had the sniper units painted already). I've never played them though, so I feel a little weird about trying them out in a tournament setting. They don't fit the theme of the list since they're foot units. Hmm, maybe I'm talking myself out of bringing them ;)

Vehicles all packed in a rifle case with pick-n-pluck foam customized to hold them.

I think that might just be the best army I have ever seen. The colours pretty much perfectly match. And the little custom touches give it that realistic feel, instead of the "fresh from the assembly line" flavor the models normally have. That carrying case is a good find. That drone controller is a well crafted convert too.

I don't care if I get a reprimand for saying this, but, this is [snip] awesome. Its just that simple.

May I give you a hug?

This is possibly the best executed and most amazing army I have ever seen in my history of 40k.
Carry on the great work.

Wow I don't know what to say to that. I look around here and see many armies that I am envious of. I'm so happy you're enjoying them.

Just from a tournament view point...

What are you going to do about giving up all those kill points that are more then likely going to be included in the tournament?

Other then that, the army looks good!

I haven't been to a tournament in several years. They used to be objective heavy (not sure if they are now annihilation heavy). This army is challenged when playing annihilation (as you point out) - can't win them all ;)

 :D Hooray! They're Done! I've got to say that I love the final look! Even poorly-painted models can look impressive when you get enough of them on the table, but the effect of having so many beautifully painted miniatures in one army is truly breath-taking. There is really nothing I dislike about any of these guys. I salute you sir!!

Hmm, my Fraggle senses are tingling... Could this win the 'best painted army' award at the tournament? I think it could, easily.

Very nice work D6, especially on the weathering. Rifle case? Best idea I've seen in some time!

I don't post a whole lot, but I needed to give you my compliments on this army. The painting, basing, and weathering all look superb. All those fire warriors in a line look pretty sharp. REALLY good job on this army.

VERY nice job there D6, I guess I better go ahead and start re-painting my army now. I had pretty much the same paint scheme as you, except even my FW's were grey and red. Now I just don't think that I could do that scheme justice after seeing your work. I just wanted to say wow and very nice idea on the rifle case, I was pondering how I was going to transport all my stuff...ideas ideas. Well, gl at the GT.

Impressive!

I like the overall look and feel of the army. The colour blends in very well with the terrain in some ways too. I also see a high number of Devilfish transports in there. You favour the quick strike eh?

Yes, deploy all drones and get in and get dirty. Block your opponents movement and options. Of course, there are cases where that's suicide and this force becomes a fighting retreat around the table ;)
