Update time! (Edit: toned this down a little, didn't seem to create any reactions at all..)

This time, I wanted to try out some green stuff and tried to create a glancing hit. The beam/bolt/bullet first hit the wing and deflected and then, having lost most of his power, didn't manage to penetrate the armor. Tried to make it realistic, as usual, feel free to C&C.

1. Image
Created the shape of the metal after the impact with green stuff, 2 seperate pieces, one deflection part and one crater where the beam was stopped.

2. Image
Just used black and white as a base.

These are the steps between, removed the pics to claim less space here :) Basisly, I added some red into the black, and boltgun metal and mithril silver onto the edges to represent the metal being twisted, melted.

This is the finished glancing hit :) After creating the details from step 3, I drybrushed with black and brown like I did before adding the hit, so it'd blend nicely with the rest of the DF.

That's it, ledited, takes less space now, still feel free to react though, do want to know how I could make it look more realistic :)

Good work-looks convincing enough for me. What I don't really understand is the brownish color. Is this meant to be the melted and cooled down metal?

I suppose you mean the red? Well, it's partly because of my camera, made it look kinda blurry, it's supposed to be black with red lines..Though I can't really give a reason, it came up like that when I started painting, a plain black stripe looked like it struck too deep and made it look kind of dull, while if I had added more silver and boltgun in there, it would have looked too similar with the edges, so well, no logical reason, sorry, just made it look better :)

k, time for another post

so, this broadside is killing me <_< I don't really like painting metal..plus I tried to use some greenstuff, and those two combined made sure that I'm still not half way after a week of working on it (only 2-3 hours per day on average, but well) but it's starting to come together, so I'm happy :) Here's some WIP ->

Image
This is the greenstuff I used on the body (used some on the arms too) and I just wanted to make it look a bit more, well, broadsided ^^ I noticed I have troubles making the green stuff smooth though, and I have to find out how I can use greenstuff to create such detail like I saw with other people..I can only make rough, big stuff, it seems

Image
And this is a symbol I made up, I actually like it a lot, and already painted it on my DF and such, planning to use it as the symbol of my cadre, I still have to find names and such, I can't think of any good ones..but the symbol represents my cadre being some kind of special strike force from T'au, have to think about a decent background one of these days..

Anyways, till the next one :)

Three easy steps- :)
1) Shape the GS as smooth as possible, in most people's cases this is not very smooth.
2) Take a craft/Xacto knife, dip it in water and define the edges.
3) Dip your finger in water and run it along the putty, with a small amount of pressure.
Just my $0.02.
Your painting is a lot smoother and cleaner than mine, and your colour scheme is a lot
more effective!

Update time once more! Happy about this one, my broadside is finally finished :D I'll start out with the pics right away ^^

Image
-> I'm happy with how the greenstuff on the torso worked out, looks better than I thought IMHO, looks a bit broader than normal suits now ^^ for the base, I wanted bit more than rocks, so you see that I created a kind of desert cactus ^^ they're (don't know the word, think it's this one) the butts on the end of a branch..you know, they turn into leaves one day..well, I like how they worked out :)

Image
-> A side few, I used some greenstuff to (try and) make the railguns more integrated into the suit, as I thought that they originaly looked bit awkward, fitting into those small hardpoints, so I tried to make it one big piece. Also happy with the symbol ^^

Image
-> yet another view, used a commander's head, not much more to say..

Anyways, that's it :) enjoy
