INFO:
As the Third Sphere expansion continues, the Tau regularly find themselves facing the mighty Imperium of Man. Any Tau force that attempts to encroach on this territory must contend with the massive armies of the Imperial Guard, often backed by fanatical Inquisitors and forces of the deadly Space Marines. While many lesser races would back down from such a challenge, it is within this dangerous area of space between the Imperium and Tau borders where the 5th Vior’lan Auxiliary Contingent operates.

Brutal campaigns have cost the Tau dearly against the forces of the Emperor and forced them to reconsider their tactics. A new approach was attempted with the VAC-5. Instead of simply assisting Tau forces in their attacks, this specialized contingent would be used as a tool of dissension for the Tau Empire.

On the Eastern Fringe, Imperial High Command often receives reports of a small group of humans using some Tau technology wreaking havoc near the Damocles Gulf. Striking suddenly, these humans have successfully destroyed several important communication centers and orbital defenses on frontier worlds, leaving the local PDF in confusion. Easily thwarting the ponderous Imperial counter attacks, these humans then disappear without a trace.

While this might seem like standard Tau doctrine, it is the nature of the enemy that scatters doubt in the ranks of local Imperial populace. Indeed, someone recognized among their attackers familiar faces; soldiers who formerly served under the Imperial flag. There are even some hushed rumors that perhaps the Shadows of Jalon did not disappear after all…

Since its founding, the structure of this armed force is highly restrictive. Representing about 75% of the staff, the Gue’la are the core and the major asset of the strategy planned by the Shas’ar’tol. Composed of individuals of varied backgrounds, the members of the VAC-5 contain a wealth of military experience on Imperial tactics, logistic procedure, communications networks and governmental operations. From old Imperial Guardsmen to human natives of the Vior’la system, the diversity in the contingent allows them to handle many of the exotic Imperial cultures the Tau come across and adapt to the many varied strategies employed by the forces of the Emperor.

Yet despite their formidable firepower, the Contingents best weapon is their use of psychological warfare. Before the invasion of a full Tau Shan’al, the VAC-5 will prepare a planet for months, weakening the resolve of the defenders. This is usually done by spreading pro-Tau’va messages over high jacked communication networks, promising justice, freedom and equality for those who join the Greater Good. Often allying themselves alongside local dissident groups the VAC-5 is able to spread their message further and disable key points in the Imperial defenses. These tactics, combined with seeing humans fighting alongside the Tau for a common goal tends to have a beneficial effect on the local population, often lessening their fears of joining the Tau.

On one occasion, Tau forces arrived on a world the VAC-5 had infiltrated months before and were surprised to find, not a heavily armed planetary defense force, but a ceremony to greet the Tau to their planet and a population ready to do their part for the Greater Good. And in the middle of the gathered masses were the grinning faces of the VAC-5.

Of course, not all matters can be solved diplomatically. During military campaigns, the VAC-5 fully utilizes their hidden positions and underground contacts. It is not uncommon for information on Tau positions to leak to the local Imperial commander who, upon acting on it, will soon find their troops trapped and out maneuvered by a small, but heavily armed opponent comprised mostly of Gue’vesa.

The Imperium is vast, yet by subtle adaptation of the Kau' yon strategy, the men and women of the VAC-5 will do whatever it takes to open the eyes of their Imperial brothers to the light of the Greater Good.

Welcome (back) on this little project of mine.

This log is dedicated to the creation of my cadre, The VAC-5.
The origin of its foundation date back to 2004. One night, after a very drunky party, one of my friend ask me what could be the worst thing an Imperial Guard could do? My answer was clear: "return his weapon against the Imperium". And after a long discussion, he convinces me to built an army based on Imperial renegades. At first tought, the Chaos Gods were the obvious candidates to lead my mischievious humans. But I wanted something more...eccentric!

After lurking on the GW website, I finally found some experimental rules for some Gue'vesas. By Jove, I hold my concept! I will create a Tau army componed exclusively of humans!
But the main obstacle was the models. After hours and hours of mixing in my bitz box, I've managed to assembly what I've called the RTB-01 (Renegade Tau Boy 01, you could see it in my squad of Kasrkin, it's the plasma-carbine weilder). But this was not the time for me to do an army because of my financial and familial problems at this period. So I buried my prototype in a case and move with it into my new house.

Until the last year when I discover ATT, the most complete ressource on Tau here on the web (*lick*lick*). I've decided to dig up my old Gue'vesa and start to do something. It was interesting to imagine all the new possibilities to melt Imperial and Tau parts together. All was doing well until the Dark Gods/Emperor/Machine Spirit put me a test in the form of the Hungry Printer of DOOM (test that I failed miserably, the evil creature munching my whole hand before I could do anything).

Since my capacity to produce any manual work reduced to zero, I've got a lot of spare time to become more and more confident with the English language. Thanks to the help of Wolf16 and his wonderful project log, I've been inspired to create a fluff who stick to my taste, and write a background for my VAC-5. And after 1 year of pain and medical treatment, I finally found a surgery operation who could rebuilt my hand back to the normal.

Now it's time to remove the dust of this army case and go back to work!!

I've deleted all my previous pictures of my army to post only those who were almost finished. I've take some new shoots to get a clearer view of the models. I will create a background for each of them in due time, but for now, I still have a lot to paint.

A front view of my Gue'vesa commander without his 2 drones I still need to finish.

Always wondered about the AT43 suits mixing with Tau. Great job to smoothly blend the parts like that, it does capture a human/tau hybrid well.

I've been tempted to collect those suits as a advanced IG combat patrol force.

Overall very impressive, look forward to your future models!

@Defaut: well i moved in my home one year ago and left my minis at my parent's place (a journey of 500 miles).
And i doesn't count all the administrative papers and works who keeped me busy all this time!

@Shas'el Tael: the great Tael!! i'm glad you take a look at my work, i was so impressed by your urban suit that i built my own.
and yep the AT-43 minis stick well with the Tau technology, i've tried to make a broaside with one of their walker, i need to cut large part of the fig if i want a cleaner result.

btw, some new pics for you guys!

Image
and here comes the Kroots! i know, they don't look like the originals :D
I just add the FW body and the end of the impulse gun on Catachan guard.
The next step in this squad, The kroot dogs (don't have any idea, maybe wargs or chaos dogs with a leopard/cheetah fur pattern)

Image
and finaly my "Tael suit", with only basic colors, i've a lot of work to do on this one!! ;)

Melta gun tips on a fusion blaster barrel? Brilliant! Also, that larger base could be a double-edged sword; it could give you a little extra reach, but makes it a little more vulnerable to assault ;)

You can use the old warhammer dire wolves or the wolves the orks use on their chariots (same thing) for kroot hounds. They got the feel and (i mean no offense to you kroot lovers out there) look a heck of a lot more fearsome than regular kroot hounds. :P

how did you do the armor plating on the legs of the suit? It looks so natural. I really like the look.

@Orpheus: well, i always use the largest base to give the illusion of taller suit, and stick them on the rear to gain surface to add more details on the ground! :)

@Red Shoulders: thanks for the advices, i will take a look on those to see if they have an agressive pose

@andyinIUT: "Merci Beaucoup" :D

@Firestorm: i used a Dreadnought reactor for the thigh and a assault terminator "Crotch-shell" on the ankle :-? (sorry but i don't the exact english term for it, it's the armor piece between the legs if you see what i mean)
you could find the built guide of these crisis here: Urban Suit XV-8

Man Martial, looking smart. Your colour scheme is very strong. The 'Tael' suit is pretty smart in the panel pattern you chose. Whats the right 'arm' weapon? Looks modded..?

..looks nifty too :)

The more standard Gue'la are sharp also, the skins tones come across very well. This is some clean painting man.

Been an injection of smart looking cadres of late on ATT.. man, I had best get my blue butt in gear and put out a project or two!

Martial, really, really like the look of the Cadian Shock Troop conversions. They look great!! If I ever get round to creating some Gue'la I shall have these in mind.

Lovely work here, my favourite bits must be the modded Stealthsuit and the Kasrkin Firewarriors. I was just going to use plastic Cadians for my Gue'la, but the Kasrkin look so much harder. Consider your idea thoroughly nicked. :) Only thing I'm not sure about is the Dreadnought base on your Tael suit - as the suit seems to be more towards the back of the base, and the base is relatively flat, it kinda looks off-balance to me. If you added something into the big empty space at the front, like those chopped up bits of SM stuff on the base of the second XV 81, it might help balance it out a bit.

@Red: thanks for the link buddy, but i stay on my first idea! the pose of the old dire wolf is not enough dynamic to my taste.

@Tael: the gun is only a fusion blaster with the nose of an imperial multimelta :)

@plasmachicken: you're maybe right, the front seems a lil' empty. btw, i know the pic isn't clear but it's an Eldar Wraithlord base :D

and some new photo incoming!

Image
the kroot dog rough, i had to use some resin to fill all the chaotic detail and sculpted the tail.

Image
an XV-89 Broadside, i don't know why, but i really like the pose on this one

Image
my first test with the new baal red, the result is really too flashy. i must re-paint it!

totally not in the line of this topic, but i have to show you my last acquisition :D
I am so IMPATIENT to see it done!!

the only problem I see is that the striping is random. Do a row of stripes from between the eyes all the way down the back and tail, all of them perpendicular to the hound's back. Then do the same down the fronts of the legs, and put some white or beige on the underbelly to make them look more natural and tiger-like.

Very nice, but i think it might look better if you didn't have stripes on the mane.

Wow!

I love you fire warrior models and you're XV 81 commander, the pose on that guy is really cool!

And the converted Chaos hound is awesome (actually thinking of making one of my own  ), but I think you should go with Orpheus Hangar's tip.

Keep up the awesome work!

*edit* Btw, can't wait to see you're titan finished
