greetings Tau! :fear:

after some hesitations, i've decided to make my own objective marker for the ATT contest.

as always, i will built something that i can add to my auxiliary cadre.
the first objective marker will be a stealth drone dedicated to gather data and sample, i will try to make something who look like a Star wars imperial drone (a drone with a lot of sensors, long-distance transmit antenna and maybe some handling clamps!)

the second objective will be an ejected pilot, hiding behing a column and recharging his old blotgun/lasgun/shotgun (i don't know yet)

i've to get some IG bits i think ;)

okay i've worked all this afternoon on the drone project, just to see where it goes... :-?

and i finally built this:

Image

Image

i choose a smooth shape to stick better with the stealth ability, add some lenses to get all the pics necessary to plan a land of a civil mission or a military strike, and some topographic sensors to detect raw materials or mine field. then all the informations are encrypted and transmitted via a photon transmittor to the orbital fleet.

that's all!! :)

next to come, the unlucky pilot

C&C welcomed

Nice combination of parts. I would not have thought to use those DF/HH parts like that. I also quite like the use of the XV8 thrusters :)

Yeah, nice use of parts :) Especially the xv8 thrusters. Although I can't help but wonder if I'd prefer it without the two sensors on the bottom...

It's certainly an interesting design. Having that said that though, I think the antenna is a bit out of place, how many Tau structures have conventional radar dishes on them? I'd also be tempted to take off the sensors on the underside as well... it just doesn't seem very "spy" like with them there.

Just my 2 cent.

At first when I saw the sensor dish I was sceptical as to whether it would look tau like but after looking at it properly I thought it looked quite good...

I like it! Definently reminds me of the Empire Strikes Back Imperial drone that discovers the Hoth shield generator/base. The only thing I would suggest is make sure you put it on a 40mm black base; it would be hard to measure the 3 inch 'zone' from a flying base. :D

So did I! I saw it and the droids chatter to itself started running through my head!

Although I'm a little iffy on the radar dish from a looks perspective - it fits the "recon" idea. I really like the sensors on the bottom, one feels like a sensor spine to me, the other some sort of mine-detector.

Well done sir. I agree with synchronicity on the black base idea too.

This is an excellent use of parts! I really get the sense that it is a recon/spy drone. I like the radare dish too, even if it does look a little un-Tau.

I wish you the best in the contest!

sorry for the long missing, but i've been very sick the last week! i was so frisk that my hand doesn't want to stop shaking  (i let you imagine the problem with the glue, it's like my hands were trying to melt in one)

i still have to built the pilot, and modify my drones (principaly changing the sensors and the radar dish)

more pics in one or two days, depending my inspiration! :)

and thank you all for the comments ^^

Very nice! What part did you use on top that looks like a smooth arc?

that would be the underside of the turret on a devilfish / skyray / hammerhead

This drone is fantastic, I love the thruster assembly, and I never would have thought to use the underslung Dfish turret for the dome, very sneaky indeed!

You could always try using the back end of a 2-part seeker missile instead of the radar dish... It is about that size and has a bunch exaust ports that you could paint up like lenses...

Or perhaps instead of the rotating parabolic radar array, you could put on a rotating bar radar instead, which would be enclosed and generally look more tau-like

and cut them down to size
