Hi there! I'll be using this topic to show my progress on my objective-marker-challenge entry.
Recently I've become interested in drones. I've been thinking about some interesting ideas on how they are used, especially in non-combat. For this entry I'll try to make a transport drone. I'm not sure how it will look in the end, but I'll think it up as I go. I don't know if I can finish it before the deadline, I'll try my best :)
On to the photo's! Before and after cleaning up the mess. Most of it was on my hands and my clothes though :P

By the way, before I get questions about DX-33-34, if you don't understand what it means, check the library. If you don't agree with the name, please pm me (I thought this was the most logical, 34 was just made up).

What did you use? That yellow-brown stuff? It looks very smooth. Very Tau. I'm liking this so far.

What materials are you using? If this is all scratchbuilt, I commend your carving skills! It's a little too early for me to comment on the design at this point, other than to say it looks like you have some talent with these materials and I'm looking forward to the end result.

Drones... one of my favourite topics. Really interested in your ideas with this project. Also, I second the query about the material you are using to sculpt with, it really grips the plastic well and produces a great edge.

Thanks all :D I want to give him some things on his sides like wings where the cargo can be mounted on the underside. The idea is based on watercarriers:

I put some lipoil (?) on the drone before adding the putty, after drying the putty could be removed easily.
The stuff I'm using is Tamiya epoxy putty quick type:

I recommend it to anyone working on suits, vehicles and the like. It's like the very plastic the kit is made of, but if you're too wild or sand too thin things can snap off.

I just finished the parts where the 'wings' can be mounted on. Next will be the 'wings' or the lenses.

Wow, that is flawless sculpting! I'm really curious about how the final product will look. Looking forward to more!

very impressive work! ;)

at the first look, i was thinking it was a woodcast (surely due to the particular color of your resin)

i don't know where it goes, but this entry will surprise me at the end :p

Two sheets of plastic :) The detail is just glued on after cutting the wings. They're pinned to the brown main body.

The putty you use always reminds me of wood. :-?
Great, clean and sharp work Onmyou! The edges look as sharp as a razor.

I am curious how this drone will turn out, but do not forget your work on your sniperbike ;) :P
Good luck!

So long!

Thanks Shavaun :D Yes the putty looks like wood, and it 'acts' like wood too. It's like carving things out of really dry, soft wood.
I'll be working on the sniperbike again after the drone's done, so far work on the drone has been pretty fast. So you actually remembered me, you make me a happy guy :P

I wouldn't be able to see this as a transport..its just too cool.

To be honest, my motivation dropped to zero last week. Though I made a comeback right before the deadline, I worked like crazy to get it done in time. Then, my internet connection got cut off on friday, only to be fixed just now. Lucky enough I could send my files from elsewhere.
Here's the last picture I took before spraying it. I'll have you wait for the final pictures a little longer ;)

Image

Note: The drone is not the objective marker. The objective marker is the cargo placed on a 40mm base, the drone is for capturing purposes.

I really like what you've done here! However, I think the drone could have been a bit bigger. Hmm...maybe sticking two drones together or doing something like Martial did here: http://www.advancedtautactica.com/viewtopic.php?p=160406#p160406.

Looks good though! I wish you the best in the comp!
