Hey Guys! Long time no speak!;-) SO anyway, as you will see below, I have not been idle and wanted to get my sept colour scheme nailed and so have got one of each of my suits to show you (Broadside tonight!). I wanted the scheme to be high end tabletop/ cabinet, but knowing that I wanted LOTS of suits in the army, wanted something that would relatively quick to paint, with a minimal pallet of colours. This suit all in took 8 hours to do (XV88 slightly longer)- but this was the experiment, the following suits will prob only take 5 each;-) Anyway, onto the money shots!- what do you think? I will obviously be happy to answer any questions on pallet or techinique:-) cheers Warhound

Nice weathering and altering of the colours. I really like the White and Orange combo, it makes it look light and "fresh". What colour is that orange exactly?
Though i think the red and orange for the Plasmagun is not of my liking, I would go for the blue like you used on the engines.
Very nice mini. I really look forward to see all the other suits painted. - keep it up

That is absolutely fantastic ! You have made it look really authentic with all the weathering on the suit, I especially like the jet pack mods. I also love the colours that you've used, and with using a white based armour, any weathering done to it makes it look even more battered and bruised. I'm really impressed by how they have come out, and I cannot wait to see your Broadsides !

Amazing, exellent weathering, not over the top - just right.
I like the scheme, nice and not overly complicated.
A lil' something thats bothering me is its right leg, it looks like it not really in the hipsocket.

Oh come on! You make me sick, you know that warhound? Not only are you an excellent modeler, but you can paint beautifully as well!? Not fair! Seriously, this is a beautiful suit. I love the color scheme; very simple, yet high tech. The weathering on it is great, please let us in on the secret! Also, how did you apply the white? Just multiple coats? Also, how did you get the white/blue effect in the jetpack? That is what I want to do on some of my models. Oh and I love that head! It looks even better painted! Oh, one thing I noticed though: "Mr. XV8, how do you keep the backs of your feet so white?" "Ancient Tau secret." Maybe put a little dirt there?

Ahhh warhound! I have to say that your little experiment failed, so put all your XV8 and XV88 in a little box and send them to me. I will give them a good home. ... ... ... ... No! Just kidding! Great work, although I second Wolfs16 suggestion of the feet It is nice to see how your suits comming along and I cannot wait to see your Broadside, too! Keep going! -Shavaun

Great model, as always. The painting really enhances the pieces in the right ways. I like the colour choices, the ochre orange is suitably subdued enough to counter point the white. The weathering is well executed and I like the various details, vents and so on. Oh and I think you have probably encouraged a new wave of Truescale Battlesuits, like the Marines I'm addicted too at the moment. best! ~ T.

Wow wow wow, Warhound!
Looks really fantastic man! Not much left to say that others haven't but it really proves how spot on you've got the upsized models! Very much enjoying the colours and the marking on the shoulder pad but I'm not 100% sold on the weathering.
Looking forward to the XV88!

Hi Warhound, very nice work.
The builds of the suits are excellent. The painting is very good!
I know you like real feedback so, the weathering is good. It's scaled well enough but I think it still needs work to achieve a more cohesive look. It's a little repetitive and harsh for how clean the suits are. They are damaged but not dirty and you will need a semblance of balance to bring them together. It's a very difficult thing to do, the miniatures are very small for this kind of look so of course hats off for even attempting something like this.
The white suit's base needs more contrast as compared to the suit, it's bright on bright whereas you could frame it better with a slightly darker base.
The base on the Broadside is good as is.
Finishing off on the positives though, A+ for construction, top shelf stuff. Excellent use of those parts I intro'd you too! Hope that is the kind of feedback you are looking for.
Cheers,
Linc

Nice looking paintjob. Though I am no fan of black paintschemes any more since painting some years of Ulthwe... But you did a good job on it. Only thing I am wondering about ist that pose of the broadside. Maybe it's me, but I'd say it's buckling like an old women

OK I'll start off by saying that I've never been a fan of black colour schemes. It hides too much of the detail and IMO can make things a little less interesting. The damage/weathering I feel is a bit too extreme but I'm guessing you chose that to hide some of the flaws from your earlier casts. And minamoto is right - I don't care how heavy the railguns are he's in too much of a squatting pose I'd prefer to see the next Broadside in the same colours as his XV8 brother!

Very good paint job and conversion, but there is only one drawback, I find the Broadside arms and legs to thin to support such a heavy weight. To have them a little more "massive" would be perfect, but it' only what i think. And I repeat, very good job otherwise.

I have to agree with the comments made so far. But I do like the paint scheme! I also really think that the pose is way to static. He looks hunched and rather passive. Great job with everything though; way above my skill level!

Hey Guys,
thanks for the feedback! Normally I would address points on a 121 basis, but I think that this will cover all....
I agree with the stance to a point, yes it does look static, but that's the whole point;-) I wanted to convey 2 things with this pose: Implacability, and "ready to launch everything!" I have always seen XV88's as really being the slow (ASS or no ASS;-) lumbering weapon platforms that they are described. If I had taken a head on side profile shot it would more clearly describe that he has 'stomped' like DOW and it bedded in to fire his payload.
In regards to the paint scheme. Yes, I think I went a little 'chip' happy;-) Again, when I come to paint models, I always like to think about who they are, where the model has been, what he is doing and where he is about to go. I saw him as being a monat suit and due to being on his own has survived many battles and skirmishes. He has trudged his way from battlezone to battlezone and so has not had time to get his T'cut out;-)
The choice of black was purposeful as I wanted on the battle field to have the more powerful units in a psuedo stealth manner. The reason being is that I figured that TAU would use this thought process also- 'Hey!, look at all these shiny white crisis suits over here!- OH sorry, did you not see/ forget about the dark uber hard suits over there!?;-)" (I rate stealths and XV88's in the same high regard!) Unfortunately the photos do not show how Matt the armour is, I used Tamiya flat colours and Vallejo paints to get some different finishes in real life- that teaches me for not sorting out my photo taking!;-)
Anyway, all fair comments- I hope that these address some of them?
cheers
WaRhound

Honestly, I would've bent the knees a bit more on the Broadside, give it a firmer, more balanced look...also, even though it's battle-damaged, I would've done a bit more putty work on the ends of the railguns...it seems to be cosmetic, but I don't think that Tau would risk any serious damage to their prime weapon.

I see you're points and I think that a better quality photo would make a lot of difference. I hate to keep harping on the quality of the picture, but you get the idea. Like I said, I actually really like the paint scheme. I think that some slight adjustments to the stance could make him look like he just about to fire all his weapons. Perhaps bending his knees a little more.
The background for your color choices are actually a very good idea. I think you've done an excellent job tying the scheme all together and it will be great to see a whole force of these boys!
