MISSION STATUS: To incite rebellion and prepare for invasion in this pivotal Imperial world; Rostov, that if taken could see half of the Voxen Free Imperial Empire susceptible to Tau influence.
HISTORY: Members of this cadre were to be drawn from a task force that was sent to aid the Voxen FIE in their defence against an overwhelming invasion. Put shortly after the invaders had been driven off and the Voxen Imperial armies had time to rebuild, the Tau's former allies turned on them stranding many Tau far from the Tau Empire. With no chance of returning home the Shas'os of the task force decided to begin a campaign to convert the Voxen FIE in a more forceful manner, raising and reassigning cadres in roles for their new task.
Having gained experience in training and minor skirmishes against the Voxenguard, El'zoanna was deployed in a leading role on Rostov and was to become involved in the first full pitched battle between the two sides which resulted in a draw as neither side was able to secure the Letum Starport.

A black-ops Cadre who specialise in the fast, hard and unpleasant kill-team missions felt unsuitable for the vast majority of Tau forces.

The commander, Stormchild, believes strongly in the power of psychological warfare. A battle can be won before a shot is fired. His battlesuit, a visually modified XV8, has spikes and blades adorning every free surface and has been repaired and adorned with trophies and plate from his vanquished foes. Genestealer skulls hang from his back, a Terminator helmet relic from his front and an Astartes paldron of the Lightbringers Chapter supplements his own shoulder armour.

A terrifying, bladed and monsterous visage, to see Stormchild is to know, beyond all doubt, that your opponent has fought and killed every race in the galaxy. His Cadre has been forged in the crucible of war, through honour and deceit, through overwhelming victory and bare survival.

In honour of their commander's vision, the entire Cadre's colour is midnight black, with auxilliary colours in a dark wine, their squad markings in blood red.

The Black Cadre is as important and vital a tool to the Tau'Va as the Air Caste's fleets or the brave Fire Caste's bright and brilliant armies, though one that is only employed in the most dire of situations, for the war zones that call for such forces to be deployed will be bitter and harsh, and only outright slaughter can win through.

Their current make-up is unknown, but consist mainly of rapid-deployment forces, Battlesuits, mechanised infantry and rapid auxilliaries.

Should you see a black monster, looking for all the world like a twisted, dark Tau, be honoured. For the Tau Empire consider you to be one of their gravest threats - and your time is at an end.

Led by Shas'El Sa’cae Kais’Yon Mont'yr La’shi, the 8th Sa’cae Mobilized Line Cadre excelled in a long range support role, fielding high amounts of XV teams outfitted in the Deathrain configuration. Heavy weapons taking the form of Broadsides, Hammerheads and Skyrays enabled the 8th to act in cooperation with any cadre in need of extra firepower. Pathfinders from the 8th were trained specifically to target the greatest threat on the battlefield; be it an enemy vehicle or enemy commander. When not under direct command, the 8th was allowed a measure of freedom in combat situations, their forces making attacks of opportunity against the enemy until the call for support was made.

The 8th served alongside several other Sac’ean cadre’s on Ge’nesha. The 8th, along with three other Sa’cean cadre’s were sent deep into Ork held territory, prior to a major Mont’Ka offensive, to prevent any Ork escape. However, the sudden attack from two Tyranid Splinter Fleets disrupted these plans. During the battle at Golto Ridge, the Tyranid killed Shas’El Kais’Yon and many other elements of the cadre. A few managed to escape the battle, including Kais’Yon’s remaining bodyguard: Shas’Vre Ro'Yon.

During the next few weeks, fighting was brutal and fierce. Ro'Yon led the survivors on a several grueling missions to recover other surviving Tau units. With the support of a local and previously unknown Kroot Kindred, the Blood Quills, the remnants of the 8th were able to reestablish communications with High Command and engaged the Tyranid on several key operations. This allowed the Shas’O to coordinate his forces with greater efficiency, ultimately leading to a victory for the Greater Good.

After the Battle of Ge'nesha the 8th returned to Sa'cea for re-supply and to take on new recruits. However, because of their losses as well as the losses taken by other Sa'cean units on Ge'nesha, the surviving elements were merged together to form the 16th Sa'cea Shas’ar’tol Advanced Recon Cadre. Its operating status changed to be attached with the Blood Quills Kindred and to go out on deep penetrating reconnaissance missions to gather intel on the encroaching Tyranid threat.

After being reformed after the events at Ge’nesha, the 16th were adapted to fill a role that they had excelled in during the battle: reconnaissance and elimination of key Tyranid threats.

One of the newest and most dangerous threats to the Empire has come from the Y’he (Tyranid as they are more commonly known as). These beasts were once thought to be a natural occurrence; perhaps a swarm of galactic predators. But after much hard earned experience, the threat was revealed to be much greater than that. The High Council has determined that more information is needed to combat this threat effectively. The 16th, after proving effective against Tyranid tactics, were chosen by the Shas’ar’tol to help track and destroy Tyranid Splinter Fleets as they approach Tau space.

Shas'El Sa'cea Ro’Yon Mon'tyr Lar’shi is the current commander of the cadre, being promoted after the events on Ge’nesha. The ARC-16's, as they are more commonly known, have seen action on dozens of occasions against small Tyranid invasions. It is to be noted that their involvement has tipped the scales of crucial battles.

HISTORY: For most of its history the 3rd Ethereals were simply that, an honor guard and while they did accompany many Aun to the field of battle they were rarely incorporated by the Shas commanders. This changed 8 years ago when the Aun they were protecting was abducted by Inquisitorial forces, they reacted quickly and lead a lightning assault aboard the Imperial Cruiser Vox Fini. Sadly they weren’t able to recover the Aun alive, however, they were stood up as a genuine fighting force and after several months of reorganization, deployed, appropriately enough to the world where the Inquisitor that murdered their charge was hidden. Through expert use of stealth teams and pathfinders, the Tau forces were able to drop into the heart of the fortress and capture the Inquisitor and his retinue, they were all sentenced to the same fate as had befallen the 3rds last Aun, public vivisection. After that they moved from war zone to war zone, changing commanders twice and generally doing well until a general alert was received by the captain of the Or'es El'leath battleship they were stationed on. They mounted their Cadre into Mantas for orbital insertion on a somewhat auspicious world called Kor’vattra IV.

FIO LOCATION BRIEFING: Kor'vattra IV is a .75g world mostly covered by a Magnesium Sulfate and Iron Oxide desert, the atmosphere is 54% Nitrogen,20% Methane, 23% Sulfur Dioxide and 3% other gasses. Due to the lower gravity and the super fine nature of the MgSO4 and FeO, the particulates tend to hang in the air for long periods of time and obscure vision. In addition the fines cause a great deal of the Tau delicate machinery to fail or work sporadically. From the surface the daylight sky is an indigo color with occasional puffy light blue clouds of methane on particularly cold days. The average Surface temperatures rarely gets high enough to melt water, if there were any water to be found as it is mainly locked up in the MgSO4. Its day/night cycle is 29 hours long and it has 2 discernable seasons, windy and cold. The star system itself is a binary system of two white dwarf stars of similar ages and in fact are of some historical interest to the Tau. The first major celestial object discovered by Earth Caste scientists long before the age of spaceships was a lovely planetary nebula, they named it Kor'vattra after the Air Caste messengers that spread the momentous news that the stars seemed to be places one could go to. While the Nebula itself has long since cooled, one of the first destinations those brave Kor chose for their deep space flights was, unsurprisingly, the nebula that bore their name. Sadly the planetary system was of little use for a colony and was decidedly mineral poor so until recently it was little more then a footnote in ancient history. However a few years ago Fio sensors detected strange but subtle energy spikes coming from the fourth planet in the system and after the surveying team lost contact with their orbiting comrades, the closest Shas available were dispatched to investigate, this happened to be the 3rd Ethereals.

The Snow Forces are a heavily mixed group with more auxiliary forces than actual Shas, thus combat doctrine and tactics depend heavily on the forces that are able to respond on short notice. MISSION STATUS: Shadowhand was founded on Ksi’m’yen during the Third Sphere Expansions. Originally trained to perform as a recon unit, Shadowhand has recently adopted a wider range of rules and, as such, require a wider range of support. Their first off-world assignment was with a Kor Battlegroup Mont’yr where they served in the roles of asset denial and Air-rescue forces. Their most recent assignment detached them from the Battlegroup and has sent Shadowhand into the Farsight Enclaves in an attempt to ascertain just what it is O’Shavah is doing.

COMBAT DOCTRINE: Armed and equipped as light infantry, the Shadowhand cadre usually relies on mobility to accomplish its goals. Extensive use of XV8 Crisis suits and Devilfish transports are common in their doctrine. This allows the cadre the ability to rapidly insert into to target areas, accomplish their objectives, and then recall without having to rely on further support. A smattering of XV25 suits are also in their arsenal as these suits stealth ability fits the Shadowhand’s combat style perfectly, though they are used primarily as scouts and fill support roles when the rest of the cadre is called upon. Ironically, the cadre will occasional call on heavier XV-88 Broadsides, especially on missions which involve breaching defensive positions or intercepting enemy transports.

ADDITIONAL: the Oi'ka are led by Shas'el Ar'au, student to the legendary Commander Shas'O Oi'Or. He has yet to earn his full command of the Cadre but has been hand picked by the Ethereal Ar'el'au to lead after the death of the old commander. The Cadre is small, meant to be a light strike force, when the Ethereal they are protecting feels the need to enter combat. When they have downtime they return to their home world, and maintain a vigilant watch on the main planet and its four moons.

The Oi'ka has gained the reputation of being not only strong protectors but fiercely Patriotic. They have denied the use of Gue'la and even the Kroot and Vepid Mercenaries. They feel that Tau technology and the strength of the Greater Good is all that is needed. This sentiment is echoed by their Ethereal passenger. Their Home world has a large Gue'la settlement on it. While they offer aid when needed, contact between the two is minimal at best.

The only other batch of Millis to leave their planet are the ones currently being transported to a more established Sept, to be introduced formally into the Tau Empire and the greater good. In addition, a few other Auxiliaries have also joined the operation, but in low numbers. A transport containing Vespid and Kroot for the force, as well as a Tau Colonization Party has been sent from Ksi'm'yen, but has yet to arrive, hence the lack of Kroot and Vespid fighting alongside the Fire Caste.

MISSION STATUS: Engaged with forces of Chaos Marines that were occupying the planet upon the cadre's arrival. Currently securing landing zones and awaiting reinforcements.

Attached notes on personnel: Shas'O Calmfire earned his name during the first engagement with the marines when his commander fell to enemy fire. He assumed command nearly instantly and in his quiet fury, drove the marine forces back and secured his fallen O's body for proper last rights. Was promoted to the rank of O following the battle by Aun'Tyr, the Ethereal accompanying the unit on what was originally an exploratory mission.

Attached notes on the planet: Kak'Aloh was so named due to the cold and desolate surface. The purple and blue sands that make up the surface of this planet are frigid due to the low temperature of the blue star it orbits and it's distance from it. The planet itself is of great value to the Tau'va, being laden with very rich cobalt and iron minerals. Most likely the same reason that the Chaos Marines are intent on it. The native species, the Rhaalin are seemingly peaceful, and have responded well to the efforts of the Por'El that was sent to make contact with them. The warriors of one tribe in particular have taken very well to service with the Shas, after a ritual dual with Aun'Tyr.

SPECIAL NOTES: Commander Shadow Sword is known to be a bit of sarcastic, merciless commander, but a brilliant tactcian. After his wife was killed by Orks while serving in another Cadre, he took his rage out of the Second Company of the Dark Knights Space Marine chapter. The entire comapny was exterminated quickly and efficietly. He then had enacted a policy in his cadre of giving no quater or mercy unless directed to do so by an Ethereal. Even after being wounded multiple times and been summoned to council meetings more than once because of his actions, he remains one of the most effciet commanders for the recent expansions. He's often know to be quite colorful while in the field. Past these faults, he's one of the most respected and perhaps one of the more least known commanders. But he has been highly recommended for leading any armored assualts by Commander Shadowsun.
