Hello all! JT here! Some of you may have seen me lurking about, or read some of my very limited number of posts.
This is my first thread here on ATT, so be gentle :D
After collecting some 4000 points of Tau, I've finally decided to start painting my army. So I'm creating this thread to post my progress as I go. I've just finished my 1st squad of Firewarriors, so let me know what you think :D

Without further ado, Squad A!
Image

The squad leader's antenna isn't painted, as It had fallen off during painting, so It'll get repainted later.
As for squad markings, I didn't go for the traditional tau markings, instead, I placed a letter on the shoulder pad to differentiate the squads.
Squad leaders will have the Sholder pad done like in these pictures, and helmet color will signify rank. Brown for shas'la, white for shas'ui, brown for shas'ui in suits, white for shas'vre in suits, black for shas'el, and blue for shas'o.

Feedback would be greatly appreciated :D

Wow, this is the second normal colour scheme I have seen in two days, and the second one that has gotten me interested in painting it again! I've got to say, nice work there, though, you might want to add some very faint highlights to them.

Nice looking squad there, I also went for a more standard Tau look (Yellow with light blue secondary), and yours are looking nice and clean.

One suggestion would be to drybrush the cloth part of the uniforms with a bit of a lighter color, it would really give the cloth some good contrast and realism.

I'm liking the look, it works well with the models. Some schemes get a bit distracting and look more like Eldar, this looks proper though.

Right on, someone else who charged into headlong and built a mountain of models. And now you too are looking at the huge painting project ahead. I salute you! Great colors! It will look stunning on the table.

@T'Owel: haha, yeah, it seems to be a popular color. Can't imagine why though... *ponders while he stares at his codex* But yeah, I like the standard Tau color, but it seemed a little plain to me. Blue happens to be my favorite color, so I tried adding a little of that, and liked the result.
As far as highlights go, I'm not confident enough in my painting ability's to try such fine details. I have Tourettes Syndrome, so keeping my hand steady is near impossible. I may try that in the future, but It'll probablly be after I paint the rest of my army. Thanks for the feedback :D

@Creeping Dementia: I've seen your thread, and I must say I'm impressed with your work. I'd comment in your thread, but for some reason I feel dumb going into a thread and just posting "nice job", without anything constructive to say. But they really do look nice.
Dry brushing the cloth you say? I may have to try that on my next squad. I'm assuming something like a Dark grey?

@AndyinUT: Yup, 130 points down, 3870 more to go xD Well, with the exception of my stealth suits and sniper drones. I don't plan on painting them, as I'm in the process of casting some clear ones, to make them look "stealthy". But yeah, Lots of work is gonna have to be done... not sure if I'll ever finish it all, especially with the rate my army is expanding xD

Honestly, the easiest way to get the right drybrush color is to just take whatever original color you used on the cloth, put a little on a palate and add a touch of white to it. That way you have basically the same color only its a little bit lighter. That insures it will look like lighting effects rather than weird patterned cloth.

Cool looking cadre. I really like the contrast that the blue and the brown have, I would have never thought to make a scheme like that! You seem to have panel painting/black lining down very well. They look very good as they are, and are definitely up to a table-top standard. But like was stated by Creeping Dementia, drybrushing would add a bit of realism, doesn't require a steady hand, and is very quick. Good luck with your cadre, I'm sure it'll look phenomenal when its finished!

That's fast for warhammer painting time. for a 4000 point army anyway.

'Ello there! Been awhile since my last post in here. Been painting hear and there, working at a steady pace. I've got all 5 of my firewarrior squads painted now. I haven't posted any pics, since the other 4 squads look almost identical to the 1st. So nothing new really xD

Anyhow, I've almost finished work on my 1st of 3 hammerheads. All that's left is a few Water transfers for the Fire Caste emblem, and all the little warning signs. Anyhow, without further adu, The HAMMERHEAD =D

The lighting in the room was kind of bad, so the tank looks a lot more yellow then it should. It's brown like the firewarriors though, I promise. D=
As with last time, Comments, Thoughts, Ideas and such are all welcome. Let me know what you think =D

I like the paintwork BUT I have to say they grey areas look unpainted/unprimed mainly the back half of the Railgun and the rest of the grey areas LOVE the firewarriors though :) .

Those look great! I love the brown/blue combination such as this, and the Egyptian-themed Chaos army that's shown around here somewhere. Makes me wish I would have gone with that instead of white.

Wow, love the new Railhead there! I also like the 'Weathered' affect you have achieved on the back! just out of curiosity, how did you do it? I can tell you dry brushed something, but not sure what...

To be honest, the weathered effect was unintentional. I believe its just due to me being sloppy / lazy xD
The tank was primed gray, and all the metal parts (like the thrusters, and the back of the railgun) were drybrushed with a lighter gray to make highlights. Its hard to see in the pictures, and they also make it look more like the plastic grey then anything. If I can get some pics with better lighting, I'll post them. Otherwise, in person they're a darker grey then all but the newest GW plastics (they've been getting darker haven't they?)
it also has a very slight brownish tint... like a dull gunmetal I believe.

Yea... I have noticed it too... a lot of the newer GW stuff is dark Grey or medium-light Grey plastic, but it was a lighter yellowy-Grey on the first stuff (When all of the marines had Mk 6 heads or as I call them 'hawk-heads'). And I have never thought of priming anything Grey... I might try it sometime! After I finish my 2500 point SM distraction.

How can you hate Mk 6? It looks so cool! especially when you save up 5 from different squads, then put them ALL on an assault squad!

Anyway, back on topic.

Do you have any pathfinders or stealth squads? I would love to see what you have done with them!

I do have some pathfinders, although I haven't gotten around to painting them yet. I'm trying to paint the things I use most 1st, then work my way to the less used units. Unfortunatly, pathfinders, as much as I like them, are not very close to the top of that list.
Stealth suits on the other hand, I have a squad of 3, but I doubt they will ever get painted, as I only bought them so I could cast a squad or 2 of clear ones. Just need to get around to actually casting them.
Procrastinating Shas'la is procrastinating :P

Well, I haven't updated in quite awhile, so I figured I'd do so. The lighting is still pretty bad, as I have yet to find a better way to take pics.
So, ignore the overly yellow browns, and the unpainted looking greys. When I get some better lighting (or put the pics into photoshop) I'll repost the suits and hammerhead with more true colors.

And a surprise my girlfriend had for me when she came over the other day:

Now I have plenty of time to paint, since that thing wont distract me anymore xD
