Okay Everybody I'm not Dead :D and I have not ditched Tau But I decided that my painting skills have made some leaps and bounds in the past 6 months or so.

So your possibly wondering what I am going on about well after months of Playing marines I grew Bored and decided to dig out my Tau But to my horror :-( My army looked horrible compared to anything made as of late. Things were thick and chunky and not in the good way so I had myself a long hard think and Decided to Limit my options and Play a Farsight Enclave Because what is cooler than a XV8? A XV8 with a huge Sword.

Well now that PhotoBucket has taken its sweet time uploading these photo's here they are

Here is a photo of my old Scheme next to My new Scheme
Image

So anyway Ladie's and Gent's Of ATT what are you C&C about my new suit? and there will be plenty of updates after everything is done in their Simple Green bath to remove some dated paintwork.

Kroot'La WhiteFire signing off.

Leaps and bounds indeed! That is fantastic Whitefire, and may I just say it is great to see you coming back to Tau with such a splash. I look forward to seeing more of your army as you get it finished.

Photos wise the first is the best of all four of them. It looks like the other three were having difficulty focusing properly at close range, did you have the macro function turned off for those by accident perhaps?

Dal'yth that could have happened. My camera is how would you say Archeotech style old. But other than that Cheers for the kind words It however took me around 3 days to do and still needs some work like cleaning up some of the highlights on the Black areas and some sept markings*Heh lucky there are decent white one's on the decal sheet* and paint the Reactor peice on it's back, I was going to try using magnets but then decided that No matter what Farsight's Bodyguard are going to be Helios suits so they were glued.

One of the Next things to be done are 2 warfish one for a Firewarrior Squad and one for a Pathfinder Squad and my Railhead I was kinda sad to submerge my Ionhammer in Simple Green But Since going Enclave I need all the Railguns I can get my hands on and one of the last things I will be doing is my O'Shovah but I will need to get some orkz of a buddie of mine since I want to copy the pose from the Artwork in the codex :D.

So keep you eyes peeled for updates.

I am impressed with the new look scheme, keep it up and I am looking forward to seeing the rest as you progress.

I would advise that you reconsider magnetising your suits though. No matter what you think now, there will come a time in the future when you wish you had the option to change the loadout of your suits. lt will be far easier doing it now than later. I found this to be true after my first year and now I magnetise all my suits as standard.

I have yet to get ahold of any magnets, but I too see the massive benefits of magnetizing suits. I play far too many WYSIWYG tournaments and leagues, causing me to constantly tear apart my suits to keep up.

Anyway, Whitefire, excellent job. It is always good to see improvement. I personally have quite a number of old models that need to be redone. Seeing how you have progressed has given me the inspiration to finally take the plunge and strip my old models. Wish me luck!

Definitely a marked improvement. Keep it up and let us see the rest of your army when it's done. :)

First of all, it's nice to see someone else giving the Farsight list a second look!

As a new reader of your blog it's unclear to me which is the new scheme, so I'll comment on both;

The deep red scheme on the first model works very well in my opinion (especially if you're theming your army around Farsight). The black and grey areas compliment the main colour well by adding natural tones. However, the highlighting appears to have been applied too heavily in parts and this detracts from the overall quality of the paint-job. In particular, the highlighting on the Fusion Blaster and legs would benefit from a softer highlight. This can be achieved by dry-brushing Codex Grey (or similar) over black, which in my experience is easier to do than highlighting. If you find that your highlights still look a bit 'chunky' then a wash of Badab Black or Devlan Mud will soften the edges. As an average ability painter myself I use this technique (black - grey drybrush - wash) effectively on all of my suits. I'll have a digital camera of suitable quality soon which will allow me to post up pictures of my suits and this may be of some help to you. Finally, the base appears to have been given a single gloopy coat of brown. If a 'mud' base is what you're after then a drybrush of Dheneb Stone (or similar) over the brown you've used will give it more depth. The edge of the base can then be painted black (or dark brown) to avoid unsightly brush-marks.

The second model appears to suffer from the age-old 'white over black' problem. Painting Codex Grey (or similar) over the black before you paint the white will mitigate this problem. The dark gaps between armour parts are a tad hap-hazard in places but this problem can be solved by painting the whole area your desired colour (grey then white, in this case) and then using a wash like Badab Black. The wash is designed to fill gaps and provides natural shading. The armour can then be touched up with white where needed.

To Dawkinsian The new Scheme is the Farsight Colour :D The Vior'la scheme is from my first attempt at painting white *something I will never bother with again* But to answer what you have said I am waiting on my store to get some more Badab Black wash in and I will be doing a tidy up on the highlights on the Fusion Blaster and legs. Oh and the Base is nowhere near finished it was just a 40mm base I had in my bits box since I misplaced the one from the suit somehow But yes the army will being Led by O'Shovah as was my plan years ago during 3rd when I decided to play and some of my mates talked me into playing Chaos instead but then returned to the way of the Tau during the end of 4th. But yes cheers for the tips.

oh and the update It is not a huge one Been busy with hospital and such but I have managed to get Farsight's Base mostly finished so here it is

And soon there will be a Commander O'Shovah painted to lead my forces against the enemys of the Enclaves.

Howdy all here is another small update of my Enclave it is everybodys fav 300 year old Tau from Vior'la Commander O'Shovah. He is still in the WiP stage as he still needs some highlighting *remember this is my second real attempt at line highlighting* and his right arm Sheild and Plasma Rifle painted But am unsure of the Plasma rifle It just looks too standard to me  so I have been thinking of changing the gun in someway BUT cannot come up with any Idea's myself so any Ideas are welcome :D.

And as always happy to hear any feedback anyone has.

These are looking fantastic! I love pose of Farsight and I must say that your painting has vastly improved. As for the Plasma Rifle, I agree that it can look a bit dull. So why not try experimenting by cutting the barrels off of other Tau XV8 weapons and swapping them around till you find one you like? Alternatively, you can get a Space Marine Assault Cannon for the termies and some barrel swapping there. Just remember to file off any rivets from any Imperial equipment you use!

Keep it up! :D

Cheers Wolfs16 I decided to keep the plain Plasma Rifle I only Under slung itstill makes a vast difference to what the final product looks like so here is the almost finished product the only bit that needs painting is the round bit on the power generator on his back because I'm not sure what colour I want to have it painted as :? But it need to make he Enclave decal stand out and that is something else I need to start practising with decals...yay  But enought Idle chit chat here he is

Image
here is a phot Front on
Image
Here is one of him with the sheild facing the camera *Gah I did not have fun painting the sheild*
Image

And here is Farsight with member number one of his Bodyguard from earlier in this blog and I still have the powerpack bit to paint on him aswell as finish the base so it is more like Farsights complete with bits of dismembered orkz  DAKKADAKKAWHAT.

So yeah once I am done Re-painting my Enclave My ork playing mates are in for some brutal battles*even though My enclave will be far more suited for MEQ/TEQ killing than horde Until I make some Flamer suits.well I mean Buy some more suits or make use of my 6 XV25 and just load on the Burst cannons.

So this is the start of one of my Devilfish sort of a test scheme and is yet to get any form of highlighting or anything yet, The 2nd one will be a Inverted version of this one and then My old IonHammer is going to be transformed into a RailHead and possibly get some sort of Tiger stripe camo'ish paint job to make it stand out on the feild of battle.

Still expect a lot more to come out of this blog Iike some Fluff as to why my old Shas'O joind Farsight and I will have to paint up my Fancy converted XV25.

Oh And to anyone that has the Power to move this into the Project Log Forum could you? I forgot I could post in there when I started the topic  .

Cheers Kroot'la WhiteFire

*Reason for edit My england was much bad*

Okay so I have done some more work on my devilfish as of late which was painted and attatched the doors and did a fair bit of highlighting on her Still however need to paint the chin mount Burst cannon,SMS and the cupola which I have sorted but I will keep that under wraps until I am happy with it :P so here are some updated photo's of the Devilfish.

Right side
Image
Front side
Image
left side
Image
Backside
Image
The back needs some highlighting on the Green things

And I need to start practicing with the use of decals Because I do not really want to try Free handing the Farsight Enclave Logo on the doors  Aswell as the Sept stripes Im so glad our decal sheets have a lot of stuff on them.

So yeah If anybody has any comments or Crit I am happy to hear it.

--WhiteFire--

ALSO I have no idea what colour to paint the 3 Filler cap things I was thinking gold then dulling them down with some Badab Black or Delvan Mud wash but Im not sure so any Ideas are great and I would like to stay away from Grey since there is a lot of Grey already.

This is looking great! Farsight turned out fantastic and your other suit looks really good as well.

As for the Devilfish, I love the color scheme. Were you asking advice on how to paint the little circle things that are around the hull? If so, I recommend painting them like gems; maybe the color of your lenses. I figure a Tau vehicle would have a lot of sensors on it, so I think it would fit.

Keep up the good work!

Cheers Wolfs16 That's not a bad Idea so I decided to run with it as I too think our stuff should be covered with sensors. I also decided to try out Decals to avoid painting the enclave logo and am happy enough with the outcome and all that needs to be done now is the base and either a couple of Gun drones *HA* or WarFish Missle pods *More likely* oh and do something to the odd thing behind the Cupola.

Well that is enough Talking here are some pictures to go with my curiosity drawing name of my update :D

And here is a photo with a flash It makes all the small mistakes and such show up but gives a better picture of the Tank commander

So yeah any comment are great hehe I seek approval of my work :P.

Looks great! Your skills have really improved and it shows. Tau vehicles are my enemies, so I applaud anyone who finishes one.

One observation though. The center of the vehicle looks a bit flat. That's usually the trouble with a grey color scheme. One idea would be to do some black-lining around the center angles (near the cockpit). That, coupled with highlighting will really finish it off.

Oh and as for the glow effect, it looks good, but might I suggest using more darker colors and fewer light blues? Using only two spots of bright colors (usually the light blue and white) with more darker colors surrounding it helps it to look more natural. Of course, if you like it that's what matters!

Uhh howdy everybody I bring some sad news Because all of my work has to be put on hold Due to the earthquake that hit my city a couple of days ago.

So the rundown is a 7.1 earthquake hit Christchurch NZ at 4:50ish Sat morning and has CHCH in complete shambles And all war gaming related stuff has to be put on hold so I WILL be quite inactive for a while.

Good news nobody died due to the quake but my town looks like a bomb site

So everyone at ATT I shall Be back in a couple of weeks :::(

Kroot'la WhiteFire signing out *for a while*

Jeez!
That's not good... I'm surprised you even mentioned to tell us so soon! I was gonna compliment your models but that seems silly now...
Since nobody died, we can move on to the next most important thing: Did all your Warhammer survive?! :P

All my Tau stuff looked to be fine just a little shaken however My Flesh Tearers took one Loss G.Seth was crushed but should be fixable and also did not go down without a fight infact he drew blood from my foot.

But I have to go help some people that came off a lot worse than I and do my part for the people of my city for this is my Trial by Fire.

*also will have some photos up in a couple of weeks or maybe sooner depending on when we are allowed to re-enter our house*
