Once my initial enjoyment of FW goodies and yet more Rus'El suits subsided (sometime I must tell you) I'm finding the second suit hard to accept as going all out.

Certainly in your mind's eye (Rus'El) you can make out the sequence of frames in which you have frozen his pose, but not as easy for me. The main thing throwing it is possibly the helm's positioning?

There is of course the whole "camera angle" vs Real life scenario, in which on the table he looks great.

Either way, look forward to these new suits, particularly since we share a similar style so it's like test painting a miniature before I buy ;)

@ Yami Kero, Shas'El Tael,

I think you're both right about the pose of the second Shas'Vre. I'm going to bring his head up so he can see where he's going!

I'd used some pictures of sprinters from the internet as reference and I really liked the idea of him being at the start of his all-out sprint. Most runners start with their head down for the first few meters. However, what happens in real life doesn't always translate successfully into a model.

Heads up it is!!!

Rus'el, just remember that an olympic sprinter won't have to care about all those naughty projectiles directed on him. And also that a battlefield is rarely a flat surface where you can run safely without falling head first! ;)

Funny you mention how you reference your poses, I often refer to NFL imagery to get an idea of how some one top heavy moves and moves fast. That and Anime cartoons where there is a lot of flying leaps with graceful landings following :)

Okay. So after taking all of your advice I have remodeled the XV89's head.
Image
This is actually attempt number four. The first two I used Green-stuff but, as my skills with green aren't what they should be, I couldn't get a clean enough look. I was trying to create a concertina collar (something like the neck joint on an ATAT) that would hide/protect the inner workings of the neck. Next I tried an old part of piping from some Gundam I had along with some Green-stuff. Still I wasn't happy.

They say that the simplest solutions are the best and this is a case in point. I ended up using the end of an XV25's Burst Cannon, the bit with four barrels.
Image
I simply filed down the ends at an angle to create the look of hydrolics undernieth the helmet.
Image
I admit that this might not be to everyones taste but I quite like the light-weight look as well as it being a clean and simple solution.

Rus'el

I have changed the name of this thread (used to be Cadre Showcase) to better represent its contents. My original aim for this thread was to show off ATT's members' Cadres but after some initial interest it kind of fizzled out, so I hijacked it.

Rus'el, that is perfect! It is so simple, but really adds to the robotic feel of the model. I think the pose comes off a lot better now. Nicely done!

As for changing the thread title, at first I thought it said RIP instead of WIP. I thought, "Oh no! What happened?" :D

Nice reworking of the head unit, the hydraulics idea is inspired. It seems hugely obvious in these photos (the whole point of the close ups), but painted and on the table top it will look great. :)

That hydraulics idea is amazing! Can I borrow it? Also I cannot wait to see how you paint those bad boys!

Due to the fact I've not done any painting for six months (thanks to work! :( )I've not had anything to add to this thread.

But I was looking at some old photos and found this one of my skimmers:
Image
Sill got two Piranhas to finish.

Work should start to ease off soon so I cannot wait to get back and finish my Cadre. Hopefully in time for the new Codex and the shed load of goodies that's bound to follow.

Hello all at ATT!!!

It's been far too long, over six months, since I last painted/played/generally hobbied but work has cooled off and I'm eager to get back!

So to ease me in gently I have finished some of the Tau scenery that I started last year:
Image
So I have (from left to right): Sensor Tower, Shield Gen Pylon and Comms Relay.

I knew my wife's ghd Hair Straighteners weren't a total waste of money:
Image
This is one of my (soon to be) two Shield Generator Pylons (Inspired by LOST)
Image

Image

Just need to finish the other Pylon and another Sentry Tower then I can get back on with this lot!!!! :
Image

P.S. Thank you to all ATT members for your continued inspiration during my absence!

Mate, those are bloody brilliant!

Those weathering effects are unbelievable? What washes did you use?

I have to say, you and your cadre continue to be my inspiration, thanks for sharing!

I'm pleased to hear my work inspires you.

The painting technique is so simple and quick, which is really thanks to the fact that when I painted my first piece of terrain I was extremely lazy!

All I do is spray the piece with Skull White then use Gryphonne Sepia as a wash. To create the weathering I use my finger to drag/wipe the paint downwards.

Gryphonne Sepia is my very very bestest friend in the whole wide world!!!! If you ever looked at my WIP you'd see that all my Tau'shan cadre and my Raptors space marines are absolutely covered in it.

Liking the comms array btw very impressive indeed.

Your work has been missed buddy.

Pics of my completed Tau scenery:

Here's a wide shot of some of my other scenery and gaming board:

I really enjoy making this stuff but I get the most from actually using it for games. I believe that the scenery is just as important as the armies that are fighting in it.

All boxed up and ready to go:

I have another two boxes of half finished scenery projects but I think they can wait! :nice:

Great work indeed. Seeing it all together just really.. very cool. I like the lone patrol filtering out into the forest ;)

How in the heck did you do the overhead shot?

Completely agree on the importance of scenery to a game. The suspension of disbelief is important to me, fighting over a soda can, rather than a fully rendered objective has certain limitations to my enjoyment of a game ;)

BTW, nice garden out back, loving the grey wood and lush green grass.

- Tael.

Looks great, Rus'el!

Your defences really look the part deployed with your army. And that's a citadel gaming board, right?

More importantly what did you use to make the fortified walls?

That really is awesome. I would not be the least surprised if you submitted those photos to GW and they made it into White Dwarf.

Definitely adding these to my own inspiration folder. :)

Your thread is awesome sir! Good day from Texas. One day I want to take all 20,000+ pts of the Mobile Armor Division and place it on the empire's field taking over their installation. That would be a site to behold. Thank you for all of your pictures and hard work, I am truly impressed and I cannot wait to get more models to build.

Thanks for all the great comments guys, much appreciated!

Cheers Tael. I felt it was quite cinematic, although looking at the second picture it looks rather funny; with the Tau hiding behind their defenses:
 :"Well I'm not going out there!!!"
:fear: :"Don't look at me?!"
:crafty: :".....Send the Kroot....."
Tael wrote:

1xWobbly Chair + 2xOutstretched Arms + 20xPics = Aerial Shot. :)

Thanks for noticing. :P I just wish the British weather wasn't so fickle as I'd love to be able to play more games outside.

Thanks, and yes, It is a Citadel Gaming Board. They are certainly not that cheep but a great investment all the same. I would always suggest on clubbing together with friends to buy one. And if you do end up going your separate ways you can always divide the board up or buy the others out.

Nevar wrote:

I'm a drummer by trade and the walls are made from old plastic drum hoops. We recently changed the drums we use so I have loads of these hoops lying around. If you're interested in getting your hands on some p.m. me and I'll sort you out. ;)

Double thanks! I very well may have to do that, although I'd be surprised if they did, Tau don't get much of a look in at the moment. Ah well, nothing ventured nothing gained. Maybe prior to the new codex might be a more strategic move?

 Wow, 20,000+ points of Tau!!?!! And I thought my 5,000 point army was excessive? :P

Once again everyone, thanks for looking, it is truly humbling reading your replies.
