====================

It was a bitter sweet victory but, It had to be done.
Many will ask me where I got the money to get it, so I will tell you now. I had been saving up the money to get my ex girl friend a ring, the day of when I was going to purcahse it she left me. I cryed, I got depressed, I packed up my Tau army, I quit 40k. She promised me a manta, by the Auns light I am getting me a manta with the money I set aside for her.
Now you can share in my excitement.

At least you can look on the bright side that you hadn't layed down the money for the ring when she walked out. Hope you're doing okay though, breakups can be tough. Especially when things seem to be going well!

Congrats on your massive massive purchase though! That's one epic model (with a bunch of other models in it) you've picked up there so I'm sure you'll thoroughly enjoy it!

Would love to see WIP pics as you unbox, build & paint it!

Oh the win is so epic because my game group is at my exs house (Thus the brief retirement from looking at my army and being sick). I might unbox and build it during one of the apoc games just in one of those egotisical moments of mine. The high of buying it after such a long want and wait time. I am going to be energized for weeks. I hope to get it built and up and running for the Dallas Railhead tournament. More or less as a show piece. I already have ideas for what I really want to do with it and it might run over on getting it down unless I kill my social life for the next few months as I wire the thing up and add lights. I was looking at some of these kids mirror/hologram tricks and im wondering if i should mount a small concave mirror near the observatory and place some epic mini inside to act as the hologram. That would be over the top epic.

We all know really just wanted to trade your girlfriend in on a Mantra mate...

Don't worry, I probably would have done the same!

Very jealous, Cortek speaks for all of us in that we want pictures every step of way. I don't think we've seen a Mantra finished on these boards, yet?

Well I did finish eight (yes eight) Mantas, but they were BFG scale (and consequently about the size of my thumbnail), so they might not count.

Congratulations on the purchase, I look forward to seeing it's development, and afterwards you'll be able to bomb your ex's shoes/handbags/china/other treasured personal items back to the stone-age when your game group meets up. Well you'll be able to fly it around in strafing movements while making swooshing and gun noises at any rate. :P

When I saw this thread, I said to myself, jokingly: "IS IT A MANTA"
Then I opened it and this was my face: :-(
Sorry about the girl, bro, congrats on the new model, though. You'll have the geeky ones all over you if you wire it up like that, anyway, so keep your chin up.

Wow...I've always wanted a Manta too and now that I'm married with 2 kids and the only one in my house working I doubt that'll happen now so build this big baddy for not just yourself, but to all of us guys with the coolest army in the game who can't afford to spend that kind of money. It'll be like a big ATT project for us all, with Cap'n Huru at the helm. Do it for the Greater Good!

Another note from me, I see you purchased Imperial Armour III with the Mantra. Is this like, the bible for us Tau players or something?

I've talked to a few blokes and they've all told me next time I'm buying stuff off FW to pick up IAIII.

Wow... that things so dear you'd think FW would throw in the books and other stuff for free.

Unlucky with your Lady friend, BTW. I hope this wasn't too much of an impulse or 'rebound' purchase, but either way I hope you enjoy your new toy. :)

I believe the rules in IA: Apocalypse are the newest itteration of the Manta's ruleset. Might be worth grabbing at least that page. If you want specific comparison you can PM me and I'll let you know the difference when I get home.

I already have IA:Apocaly1&2 the flying bases are for my hammerheads and devilfish. More or less I bought IA:3 for the contained fluff. No not a rebound purchase, wanted it before I met her. For those of you wanting a manta and not knowing how to get the money. two options.

A). set 100$ aside every month for a year
B). Summer job if your young and living with parents. put in as much ot as you can get and if your lucky. 1 month.

And naw Honestly I wouldnt have traded her in for the manta :/ Cant win them all.

I had my own share of lady troubles recenty, so I too have decided to drown my sorrows in 40K. Although I don't think I could compete with this! :) (When I first saw the order you posted, I thought you bought 7 mantas instead of 7 flying stands. :D )

I really would love to see the manta come to completeness, so I know I will be watching!

From a fluff point of view the Manta is to be named "The Voice of Reason" since my Aun is named Reason.

"The enemy at first failed to head the spoken words of Reason. But this did not stop Reason, oh no. Everyone shall hear the Voice of Reason, and witness what it like to stand in the way of the greater good."

A manta... very cool. I hope there's a suitably epic place to display it in your home once its done!

Also, awesome name and reason behind it. Personally, were I ever to buy a Manta, I'd name mine "The Greatest Good".
