My name is Braden Campbell, and I am one of the newest writers at the Black Library.

Two of my short stoires writen for Hammer and Bolter have featured the Tau, and now my bosses have me considering a novel centered around them. Thus, while researching Tau background, I came acorss this site.

It is my hope that you will be able to help me craft a Tau novel that is both an exciting and pleasant read for Tau players everywhere.

See you around!

- Braden

Welcome to the site. I am sure you'll find a wealth of knowledge and ideas if you look deep enough. Any background questions you have I'm sure can be aided with info from our members.

I'll direct you to the Membership Primers which are required reading by all of our members. Much like your editors we strive to have content that is informative and well presented. Capitalization and grammar are a few peeves of mine so please treat this like anything else you'd write and run it through a spell checker. It will catch most of the simple errors in your posts.

Welcome Braden Campbell,

I'll be watching for your posts and taking a keen interest in your membership aboard the orbital. :D

In the meantime, filling out the member profile template might be a great idea to let us all know a bit more about you. You will find that a lot of us have things in common, besides the obvious. :P

Real first name: Braden

Age and gender: 36 (at the time of writing), male

Location: Milton, Ontario, Canada

Occupation: Writer... although I'm also a crossing guard out front of my daughter's school.

How did you get into wargaming?: Back in the summer of 2000, the fellows at North Bay Games and Hobbies turned me onto 40K.

How did you get into Tau? I had been playing for a few years when I met my future-wife. I thought if we shared a common hobby, it couldn' thelp but be a good thing. So, I started her a Tau army (she never really played with it... although she loved "the little drones").

What would be your second piece of advice (after "read the freakin' rules") to a new Tau player? Don't pile Fire Warriors out of a Devil Fish and claim, via True Line of Sight, that they can fire underneath their transport, and then get a cover save in the turn afterwards. It's dirty and cheap, and as a champion of the Greater Good, you're above such shananigans. Also, dedicated Dark Eldar players (such as myself) will hurt you for trying it. Hurt you bad....

What is your Tau colour scheme? Farsight Enclave (so, Scab Red with Bleached Bone).

How did you find this site/the old site, and how long have you been a member? An internet search for Tau timeline turned it up. I'm currently working for the Black Library, and am doing background research for a novel (hopefully).

What are the origins of your ATT username? Braden (BRAY-den) is Gaelic, and means "from the broad valley".

Have you reviewed the ATT Member Primers?Yes.

Where and how often do you usually play? Our local group here in Milton tries to get in a weekly game.

Do you have any other armies, for 40K or another system? Dark Eldar for 40k, and a human-centric Dogs of War army for Warhammer Fantasy. My mono-white Kor deck for Magic the Gathering is also an army in card form.

What is your favourite and least favourite army to play against? I struggle against demons and Necrons... but usually fare well against the Inquisition.

What is your best and worst 40K moment? Worst moment - hitting a Space Wolf rune priest with three, str 8, AP 2 weapons. All I needed to wound him was a 2+. I rolled three 1's.

Welcome to ATT Braden!

I'm looking forward to seeing where you go with the wealth of Tau fiction material we have here on our little site. If you do end up writing that novel, I hope that you really bring out the true character of the Tau and not resort to making them "Big Brother in Space."

Hammer and Bolter #8 contains a short story of mine, told from the Tau point of view. It's called Commander Shadow.

A prequel story to that (because BL liked the first one so much), but told from the Catachan view point, will be appearing in an upcoming issue of the same ezine. That one is called, Hunters.

There's no Tau in it, but you can also find me in Fear the Alien, where my Dark Eldar love story, Mistress Baeda's Gift, appears.

I read a bit of the Dark Eldar story and while it was good, I didn't finish it since it got a little too gory for my tastes. :? This is totally my preference and not a reflection on the quality the material! :D I'll have to see about the Hammer and Bolter story.

I think a lot of Tau players (myself included) tend to feel a little protective about our favorite xenos since many people make them one dimensional stereotypes. But any questions you have on Tau culture or even you're own personal take will be very welcomed.

Welcome Braden,

Thanks for the profile, always fun to see how folks came about gaming/tau and other interests.

Similar story with a Commissar, a powerfist and three grots. I feel your pain. (and lack of ability to inflict it at that time)

Look forward to the topics you start up in your research. Off to look up the short pieces you quoted.

best,
Tael.

Guess we're all in the same boat. 10 Terminators taking 8 2+ saves...all 1's. No guess as to why I quit Marines.

Welcome aboard the the Orbital, Dark Eldar Traitor! :crafty:

With regards,

Welcome to Advanced Tau Tactica Braden Campbell,

in my opinion, this is the best source for any Tau related information on the web, you could only get better information by hitch-hiking to the Tau Empire itself.

Thank you for filling out the profile, this way we can get to know you better and get an impression of who you are.

Now I am really curious to read those stories, but apart from that I am looking forward to see your Dark Eldar models and those Tau models.

You hopefully enjoy your stay here.

Greetings
- Gue'el Che Gue'vesa

And I also hope you will be able to add suggestions of your own (possibly during my [planning stages] orbital roleplay. Type 3D orbital project into the search engine and you should find it)

"Hunted", written by me, follows three Catachan rebels as they attempt to assasinate a Tau ethereal.

Update on my writing:

A while ago I spoke about the possibility of my writing a tau novel for Black Library, and I can now tell you that said novel will answer the question of what happened to Aun'shi between the 3rd and 4th edition codexes (wherein he went off to make peace with Farsight, and then seemingly vanished).

A short story featuring Aun'shi, and acting as a prequel to the novel, will be completed by April.

Yay! It sounds great!

Tau suffer from lack of novels. So deep race, yet totally unused.

Bring it! <jumping of happiness>

Appreciate the update Braden, look forward to the short piece.

Richard Williams during his writing of the Orphan's of the Kraken utilised my Scythes of the Emperor Factual History pdf, I even made a cameo as Forgemaster Sebastion :D

I hope you found just as interesting sources for your work, if so, could you post any links for the tau fans here?

- Tael.

Story update:
It's the begining of May, and I guess I can tell you to keep an eye out in Hammer and Bolter for Aun. It's a short story that answers the question of what happened to Aun'shi, and the editors "really loved it." :D
