I sat down, inspired to finish this this weekend. A lot of NCAA basketball to watch also helped :). These guys will likely be counts-as thunderhammer/stormshield terminators in most games though they could likely count as whatever I want since they have a bolter (or halbred for GK). The gold was painted on a tan primer using GW shining gold. A few coats of that with an airbrush then a few washes of gryphonne sepia. After that I drybrushed mithril silver over the top.

I'm really happy with how this guy's face turned out. I painted tallarn flesh over the whole head, then devlan mud. After that I overbrushed tallarn flesh again followed by a highlight of elf flesh on all of the highpoints like nose, cheeks and forhead. I follow this up with another devlan wash in recesses of the ears, mouth and under the eyes. The eyes are astronomicon grey and chaos black. I don't like white eyes as they're too bright and look unnatural. The hair used adeptus battlegrey drybrushed on followed by a stipple of chaos black .

More pictures of the complete squad and closeups at my blog (see sig)

Wow. That's a surprising amount of detail in the face. That really turned out well. Very impressive, indeed.

Thanks Rev. I'm debating making 5 more as I have spare torsos though I need to convince myself that it's worth my time to have 30 terminators. Either 5 more stormshield guys (I really like the look here) but with hammers or maybe I'll just make one guy with an assault cannon. I'd like to try out a conversion from a reaper (or whatever the assault predecessor was).

I'd try hard to incorporate a bolter into hammers if I did it though.

I haven't shared anything here in a long time and on the cusp of 6th I should show my last unit to paint of 5th!

Image

Had these guys sitting around for a while and I think fifth will make them much more useful (here's hoping). I had fun starting these and finishing them. It was the middle step that took forever (procrastination and all).

I painted the gold with zenital highlighting. They're primed black and base coated tin bits. Then I used about 3 coats of shining gold progressively higher on the model followed by a devlan mud wash and mithril silver drybrush. It's hard to actually see the tin bits but if I hold them upside down they're pure tin so it definitely worked out.

Anyway larger photos on my blog (sig).

AHA! So Ive finally found the source of your famous avatar picture. Upon seeing your avatar for the first time when I joined ATT, it took me awhile to decide whether I was looking at a painted model or a rendered picture. The face came out amazingly well. Probably one of the most photo realistic faces I have ever seen bar none.

Well done!

I finished painting my chimera this week for a tournament I'm going to play in tomorrow (just 1000 points). It should be super fun! The funny thing is I finished this up last night and put the decals on this morning only to decide not to even bring it in my army. Oh well at least it's done! It was on my painting shelf for probably a year. The model itself was converted so that the turret is further back on the hull. I really like this aesthetic better than the GW standard.
Image

To paint it the whole thing was primed with Krylon camo brown then basecoated with a lot of graveyard earth. You can't really make it out on the two top pictures with this lighting but there is a 50/50 khemri brown/dhenab stone camo pattern applied. I wanted it to be pretty subtle and after I was done it was (maybe too much so). Maybe you can see it running diagonally from top left to bottom right on this photo?

I washed it with an airgun application of devlan and then highlighted with dhenab stone. The wear and tear is sponged on granite.

The turret is removable and so is the main weapon. I have a manticore turret that will drop in there too for whenever that may come up. The tracks were painted with an airbrush at the end of the model, first chaos black, then scorched brown followed by snakebite leather. One more of these hulls to go for now (a hydra). I also have a sale pending for 2 of these (unpainted) since I decided to not 'play' guard fully anymore. Just use them as allies so I won't need six chimeras for anything I'd want to do. Still have one more left though which I'll probably sell. I actually decided to part out most of my IG army which should fund my chaos adventures.

More pics on my blog.

With the introduction of fliers and allies to 40k I thought it was about time to finish my Hydra conversion so I sat down and painted it up. I've left the turret removable so that it can still function as a chimera when required. After playesting some games with artillery-like units I think I've decided that heavy bolters are way better now in contrast to the heavy flamer. Not being able to snap fire it doesn't help. Sadly I glued these on!
